Dobbs, who is no stranger to controversy, quit his job as anchor of his own financial show "Lou Dobbs Tonight" in November 2009 after the cable network was bombarded with viewer complaints about Dobbs conservative leanings. He had been with the CNN network since the 1980's.

Both sides publically announced an amicable split; with Dobbs citing plans to "pursue new opportunities." In an official statement at the time, Dobbs explained it was "increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us, and some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the roe here at CNN."

Since then, Dobbs has mentioned he would consider a possible presidential run in 2012. The website loudobbsforpresident.org launched in January 2010 supporting his possible bid.
