SOTOMAYOR: It’s okay for Government to ridicule Holy Bible

By Online Friday, June 26, 2009

In 2003, Judge Sonia Sotomayor joined a Second Circuit order that excused government hostility toward religion. In 2000, Rev. Kristopher Okwedy and Keyword Ministries, Inc. – a Christian Church – put up a billboard sign quoting a verse of the Holy Bible, Leviticus 18:22, that says, “Thou shall not lie with a male as with a female – it is an abomination.â€

The Bible continues to be attacked, and this Administration is putting into place many individuals who appear to want to continue to throw Christianity out.

    Galatians 4:32
    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

    Try actually reading the decision!

Do you even bother to read the things you’re talking about? Here’s what the Okwedy decision actually says:

“We write here only to make clear that a public-official defendant who threatens to employ coercive state power to stifle protected speech violates a plaintiff’s First Amendment rights . . . .â€

    Oops, wrong URL

My bad. The URL in my prior post is to the wrong decision. That was a 2006 opinion ultimately upholding the lower court's dismissal of the plaintiff's free speech claims. However, Sotomayor played no part in that opinion!

The correct URL, to the 2003 decision by Sotomayor upholding plaintiff's First Amendment rights is: http://vlex.com/vid/docket-no-01-18535523.

For the lawyers among us, the 2003 decision can also be found at 333 F.3d 339 (2nd Cir. 2003).

I apologize for the error. However, many of the blogs criticizing Sotomayor are referencing the 2006 opinion, instead of the 2003 decision. So, I'm not the only one making this mistake. I'm just correcting it.

    Oops again.

It's past my bedtime so my typing is punchy. The URL I submitted to the 2003 decision contained a period at the end, so if you try to click on it you won't get to the page. Here, minus the period, is the correct link:
