10 Things the GOP Doesn't Want You to Know About the Debt
10 Things the GOP Doesn't Want You to Know About the Debt
Perspectives
Just two weeks after he seconded Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's dire warnings about the August 2 deadline to raise the U.S debt ceiling, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor walked out of the budget talks aimed at reaching a bipartisan compromise over deficit reduction. Like Arizona GOP Senator Jon Kyl, Cantor shifted the burden to Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Mitch McConnell and President Obama to "get over this impasse on taxes."
For his part, McConnell promised that no deal to end the GOP's hostage taking of the U.S. economy will include tax hikes. But while McConnell boasted that "If they couldn't raise taxes when they owned the government, you know they can't get it done now," left unsaid was the inconvenient truth that the nation's mounting debt is largely attributable to wars, a recession and tax policies put in place under his party's watch.
Here, then, are 10 things the GOP doesn't want you to know about the debt:
1. Republican Leaders Agree U.S. Default Would Be a "Financial Disaster"
2. Ronald Reagan Tripled the National Debt
3. George W. Bush Doubled the National Debt
4. Republicans Voted Seven Times to Raise Debt Ceiling for President Bush
5. Federal Taxes Are Now at a 60 Year Low
6. Bush Tax Cuts Didn't Pay for Themselves or Spur "Job Creators"
7. Ryan Budget Delivers Another Tax Cut Windfall for Wealthy
8. Ryan Budget Will Require Raising Debt Ceiling - Repeatedly
9. Tax Cuts Drive the Next Decade of Debt
10. $3 Trillion Tab for Unfunded Wars Remains Unpaid

What's the point? We should just let the Democrats have their way, right? We have a Democratic WH and a Democratic Senate and they are about to run the country over a cliff. Obama is, cough, choke, president and his policies are the here and now. Bush's mistakes and the GOP's previous screw-ups shouldn't justify the disastrous behavior emanating from our current administration.
...I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid...

From another blog:
The problem with that is that it is not true. Yes, the deficit skyrocketed during the Reagan Presidency with a Democrat CONTROLLED HOUSE AND SENATE.
As predicted the Reagan Tax Cuts resulted in an INCREASE in tax collections because it removed the incentive to go through strange contortions to avoid the then prevalent obscene and punitive tax levels levied on producers who dared to do well.
What caused the deficits was that the Democrat controlled House and Senate increased spending above and beyond the increase in revenue.
The tax increases were demanded by the Democrats controlling the House and Senate who were holding other bills hostage to get their tax increases.
As well the increases came mostly AFTER the assassination attempt on Reagan and in his second term when he was already in the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

No, we shouldn't just let the Democrats have their way, nor the Republicans.
I wanted to point out mainly that the Republicans have increased the debt ceiling seven times just during the tenure of G.W. Bush, and that we still owe trillions on the Arab wars that are still unfunded, yet still add to the $15 trillion national debt.Join our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & to secure US borders by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

I agree we dont need to add on to debt,or anyone party should have their way but as you can see by the charts republicans helped create the mess but want to pass the blame. Obama inharreted it and no hes hasnt help but like a tornado rips a town apart in a matter of minutes and takes months or years to clean up,you cant exspect years 8 at least to be cleaned up in 2 and a half years.
