Conservative SVP wants tighten rules for immigration, expel criminals out of the country and compulsory lessons of one of the main Swiss languages for immigrants (German, French or Italian). Consequently smear campaigns is launched against them and UN demands limits on freedom of speech to be applied in Switzerland because of "racism".

Yesterday violent far-left extremists prevented the SVP demonstration from being held according to plan. Therefore SVP held their peaceful demo on alternate place whilst the extremists were running riots and street battles with police throughout the whole night.

Swiss mainstream media are upset that the far-left violence could help SVP which is already strongest political party in Switzerland (and somehow is unpopular by liberal "elites").

Swiss police clash with violent demonstrators at political rally in Berne

ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Twenty one people were injured, including eighteen policemen, at a violent demonstration against Switzerland's far-right Swiss Peoples Party (SVP) in Berne on Saturday, according to Swiss news agency SDA.

The clashes with riot police, which resulted in 42 arrests, occurred when several hundred masked demonstrators tried to block an authorised SVP rally outside the Swiss Parliament.

The far-right party is seen as favourite in the upcoming national elections, which will take place in two weeks' time.

The SVP, which currently holds two ministries in the Swiss coalition government, has in the past been condemned over its anti-immigration stance.
