Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has, to say the least, a very odd understanding of the Constitution. He thinks Texas should be able to opt out of Social Security, and he believes that everything from federal public school programs to clean air laws are unconstitutional. Yet in an interview with the Daily Beast’s Andrew Romano, Perry makes his most outlandish claim to date — Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional:

The Constitution says that “the Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes… to provide for the… general Welfare of the United States.â€

What I think is unconstitutional is the lavish retirement packages congressmen and senators get after only four years of pocket padding and lobby diving.

THAT is the first racket that needs a complete workover.

Have you ever seen a company where the CEOs could sit around a table and vote themselves a pay raise without the consent of the shareholders?

Thus the reason why so many in big government do not want less government bureaucrats...

It should be noted that Perry is trying everything in his bag of political magic to DIS himself from his political past, resemblances and affiliations to George W. Bush AND AL GORE notwithstanding.

It should also be noted that the GOP grew the size of Federal Government under George W. Bush more than at any other time in American history, save for Franklin D. Roosevelt.
