Mexico: Army Patrols Monterrey
May 22, 2007 13 28 GMT

Mexican soldiers began patrolling the northern city of Monterrey and its surrounding area May 22. The move comes after state police in the area went on strike May 21 to demand greater government support to fight organized crime rings, which have been abducting and killing police officers. It is the second time the army has patrolled Monterrey since December 2006, when President Felipe Calderon launched a national campaign to combat drug cartels
