Three people were killed and at least 21 others were wounded in shootings across the city over the weekend.

That pushed the city homicide total for 2015 to at least 213 and the shooting total to at least 1,255, according to a Chicago Tribune database of city shootings. Both of those surpass yearly totals for similar timespans in 2013 and 2014, according to an analysis of that database.

There were 192 homicides in 2013 and 187 in 2014 through June 29; there were 1,035 shootings in 2013 and 1,104 in 2014.

The most recent fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the Fernwood neighborhood on the city's South Side.

Police said a 21-year-old man was walking in the 9900 block of South State Street when someone inside a passing vehicle fired shots, hitting the 21-year-old in the head.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Monday morning, the man was identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Martell L. Smith, of the 300 block of West 104th Street in Chicago. Police said no one was in custody in connection with the shooting.

Another 21-year-old man was killed Saturday evening in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.

About 7 p.m. Saturday, Eric Turner was standing outside his home in the 7300 block of South Dorchester Avenue when a person approached him, pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest, police said. Turner was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The man, later identifed as Joaquin Rocha, was a passenger in a vehicle in the 4500 block of South Hermitage Avenue when someone in a passing SUV fired shots, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Rocha, of the 4700 block of South Springfield Avenue, was driven to the University of Illinois Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 4 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

Also over the weekend, a 25-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Logan Square early Monday morning.

The man got into an argument with a neighbor in the backyard of a home in the 1900 block of North Rockwell Street about 3:03 a.m. Monday when he was stabbed in his chest, police said. The 25-year-old was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Police said a man was in custody as of Monday morning and charges against him were pending.

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -A man was killed and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday, authorities said.

The 50-year-old man was killed and a 38-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the North Lawndale neighborhood Wednesday night. About 9:50 p.m., the two men were standing on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of West 16th Street when two males walked up and opened fire, police said.

The older man was shot in the chest, leg and arm and was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting, police said. The other man was shot in the right leg and took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred about an hour earlier when a 17-year-old boy and two men were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

About 8:55 p.m., the three were standing outside in the 0-100 block of East 100th Place when a dark-colored vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said.

One man, 21, was shot in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The teen was shot in the left ankle while the other man, also 21, was shot in the right leg and right arm, police said. They were both taken to Roseland Community Hospital. Police said the conditions of all three had stabilized.

A man was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

About 3:45 p.m., the 19-year-old was walking in the 4100 block of West Maypole when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

Earlier Wednesday morning, a 20-year-old man was shot on a Brainerd neighborhood porch.

He was standing on the porch of a home in the 9200 block of South Justine about 3:30 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was struck in the forearm and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

About two hours earlier, a 32-year-old man was hurt in a shooting in South Austin.

He was driving in the 4700 block of West Van Buren about 1:30 a.m. when someone passing in a silver car fired a bullet that grazed his head, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
