Barack Obama is getting some unusual questions from voters in Iowa. At one event, a man asked him about his past marijuana use

With Obama, the real question is: did he inject? His books allude to his use of cocaine in his younger years, but the story goes that he stopped just short of heroin use - with summoned images of a glistening ball of heroin sliding through his bloodstream, into his heart, and triggering cardiac arrest. The fear of this supposedly stopped him.

Interesting that fifteen years or so after "I did not inhale", this is where we're at. But perhaps its a great political strategy...if Clinton was crucified over smoking a joint, admitting to pondering heroin is an end run around the opposition. Weed is just so blase by comparison, yeah? Keep moving the goal posts in the debate and eventually you'll leave your opposition with a very short field to defend.

Taking it to the next level and beyond seems to short-circuit any moralizing and in a way silences debate...even if the admission is horrifying. We're so busy combating cultural poison X that cultural poison Y doesn't seem so bad by comparison. And we take poison Y gladly, with relief.

Most drug users lie about what and how much they've done.
