New Study:California's Deteriorating Educational Status
New study shows California's deteriorating educational status

California, once regarded as a leader in the nation for its public higher education system, is quickly dropping in the ranks, according to a report released today by the California Faculty Association.
In its investment in public higher education and college degree attainment, the state ranks near the bottom among all 50 states.
California ranked 49th in the country for its number of adults with at least a high school diploma and 46th for the number of 19 year olds enrolled in college.
And over the last three decades the state's investment in public higher education has also dropped and now ranks 22nd in the country despite having the nation's largest public higher education system.
"It's a collapse, folks," said Tom Mortensen, author of the report entitled "California at the Edge of a Cliff: The Failure to Invest in Public Higher Education is Crushing the Economy and Crippling our Kids' Futures."
"This is a staggering commentary on this state's commitment to higher education."

Gee what was your first clue all of the kids in class that couldn't speak English?
If I was a young person and starting a family, CA would be the last place I would live. I would look at the states by their rankings and see what would be best for them. It might be a sacrifice but their future is at stake. We had a young couple in our town literally walk away from their 2-year-old home. They could afford it but all the prices slipped and they were upside down. They got tired of the Latinos bringing knives to school and threatening other kids and tearing the American flag out of their social study books. Some were even defacing the American flag in the school room. They said, "That's it were moving out of state, we'll rent, but our kids are going to be safe, and they are going to be taught so they have a future."Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I agree with Gogo, also keep in mind, illegals get priority in CA colleges. I know because hubby was going to get his degree, and even though he had been in the state for 2 years at the time, and had a green card, he was considered a foreign student, which is even a higher rate than out of state students. However, illegals get instate rates plus bonus points for being a "minority" where hubby was just a European foreigner.
Although we had talked about leaving for years, the final straw for us was when our neighbor, who had a 5 year old daughter, showed us her school supply list for kindergarten. No lie, one of the recommended but not required items was a bullet proof backpack.Proud American and wife of a wonderful LEGAL immigrant from Ireland.

You look in any of the most seriously failing school systems and that's why. More money to cater to a specific group at the expense of everyone else, ESPECIALLY when it's NOT WORKING....brings the whole shabang down.
They've been at this since before my own kids started. I think after about 30 years with no significant improvement is enough of a test period to see this method doesn't work.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Even if it's flavored and filtered and put in special containers and depriving those who want it, isn't going to make them any more likely to drink.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
