The Bills Are In For State Sponsored Party Cruise
The Bills Are In For State Sponsored Party Cruise
The bills are in for a state sponsored cruise that took about 200 state and local officials on a tour during the tall ships festival in Beaufort.
Raleigh, NC -- Invoices show the cruise cost more than 27,000 dollars.
That includes the cost of food, such as shrimp and lime smoked scallops, and party favors such as hats and coconut flavored lip balm.
The beer and wine bill was paid by an economic development group that receives state funds.
The state also assigned two of its five Marine Patrol boats to escort the ferry, which had been taken off its normal route for the tour.
The cruise was conceived by state Ports Authority officials to entertain legislators and show them port operations at Morehead City.
Ports officials have since apologized for the lavish event.
