Appalled by the attempt of federal and state governments to withdraw the protections of certain unalienable rights guaranteed in the Constitution, a group of California citizensis fighting back by organizing a series of marches throughout the state that call attention to the government tyranny.

Roger Cotton, organizer of the events, stated that he was motivated to do something major when he was listening to the radio one day recently and heard law enforcement officers from California and Chicago talk about their views on the Second Amendment.

Although many county sheriffs across the nation have vowed to refuse to enforce any new gun legislation emanating from the White House and Congress, others have indicated their full support for draconian new gun control even to the point of repealing the Second Amendment altogether. And in addition to law enforcement, mayors, state legislators, and members of Congress chimed in, heaping on their disdain for the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.

Cotton says he was horrified by the remarks and decided to do something about it. He volunteered to organize a National Day of Resistance Rally for San Diego, Calif. as part of the nationwide effort by gun owners and concerned citizens to express their support for gun rights.

But in organizing and conducting the National Day of Resistance Rally, Cotton discovered that a single event would not be enough. He would need to do something really big, a major event of statewide newsworthy import, in order to make his voice heard. That is when he came up with the idea of a massive citizen march on the state capitol in Sacramento, Calif. on April 15, 2013, which Cotton has dubbed as "The California Liberty March Initiative."

But to accomplish such a feat he would have to walk the 500-mile trek from San Diego to Sacramento -- a daunting task for a man with some rather troubling health problems. Thus, Cotton has been training each day for the walk. And he has been gathering support from citizens who will join him in the endeavor.

The walk to Sacramento will take at least three weeks, so the time is now for citizens who support the initiative to step up.
A website has been created just for this event. And the major objectives have expanded beyond gun rights to include term limits for state legislators, a mandate for a balanced budget, and a requirement that all legislation adhere strictly to the original intent of the U.S. Constitution, among others.

Cotton has drafted a document of grievances that he will read at a news conference on April 15 once he reaches the state capitol. The document is called "The Petition for Redress of Grievances" that includes all of the major objectives of his grassroots movement. The introduction to the document states the following:

In this troubling time of economic uncertainty, as well as rampant political corruption, ineptitude, and governmental lawlessness, the American Constitution is being openly subverted and ignored by elected and appointed officials who swore an oath to protect and defend it. As a result, every aspect of the American Way of Life is being criminalized, and Citizens are faced with the loss of their unalienable rights as enumerated in the Constitution.

An onerous decision must be made: To accept the status quo, and allow the Constitution to be rendered meaningless; thus, enabling government to continue to grow unabated until it literally enslaves us; or, to force politicians to act in strict accordance with the Constitution and to enact policies essential to the preservation of our individual rights and liberties...

...In a free republic, it is not acceptable that the public become slave to the public servant. Nor is it legitimate for government to take away unalienable rights and powers from the individual for any reason or rationalization.

Events such as these are sorely needed all across America as "we the people" remind elected public servants that they work for us and do our bidding, and not the other way around.
