LOS ANGELES – Police have arrested a man for allegedly operating a cockfighting ring out of a house in the Sylmar neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.
Genareo Vasquez was arrested Wednesday after police seized dozens of roosters from the property. Lt. Gil Moreno says officers with the Los Angeles Animal Cruelty Task Force made the discovery after receiving a complaint about a rooster crowing.

Advertisement Vasquez surrendered 42 roosters, 90 hens, 15 chicks and 30 eggs. Moreno says the birds were euthanized because the breed is inappropriate to keep on a farm or as pets.
The ring is the second cockfighting operation broken up by police this month.
