VA DISASTER — Dozens Of Veterans’ Bodies Never Buried, Left At Morgue For Over Year

The bodies of 28 veterans at the L.A. County Morgue were finally moved Friday for burial to the Riverside National Cemetery.

CBS2/KCAL9 pressed the L.A. County Coroner’s Office Thursday to find out why the bodies had not yet received a proper burial after a source indicated there may have been as many as 60 veterans at the morgue for the past year and a half.
The morgue says the bodies were unclaimed and they don’t know how long the veterans were there.
The law states veterans are supposed to receive a proper burial.
The Veterans Administration says they were never notified the bodies were processed and ready to be buried.
More than two dozen bodies were transported to the Riverside National Cemetery Friday afternoon and more could be moved as they are identified.
On Friday evening, KCAL9′s Stacey Butler reported the LA County Morgue and the Veteran’s Administration were blaming each other for the mistake.
Butler reported from the National Ceremony where the bodies are scheduled for burial.
She spoke to citizens who were outraged at how the deceased vets were treated.
“I think its incomprehensible,” said Richard Burns, a Marine veteran.
“It’s kinda sad that these people don’t get the proper care that they deserve,” Burns said. “Even after death.”
Every Wednesday morning, Butler reports former Marine Corporal Burns goes to the Riverside National Cemetery and volunteers to lead memorial services for the unclaimed and often indigent vets.
Often Burns and a handful of volunteers are the only people in attendance.
By email, a spokesperson for the LA County Morgue pointed the finger at the VA.
They wrote, “…there are about 60 decedents of probable veteran status that have awaited disposition for about a year as a result of a personnel change in the Veterans Affairs office and stringent identification/eligibility processes required by the VA.”

VA Whistleblower: The VA Is Run By Sociopaths - Truth And Action
    truthandaction.org
According to an anonymous VA whistleblower, corruption is so 'overwhelming' throughout the VA and those in charge are so corrupt and psychotic that their attitude is summed up in one statement he heard from one VA supervisor: "Older veterans should be taken outside and shot in the head because they're worthless." He describes the Dept. of Veterans Affairs as a place where supervisors across the board are not giving care to vets in order to ...

Pelosi Resorts to "Blame Bush" On VA Scandal

    Kevin Glass | May 24, 2014

During the George W. Bush Administration, progressives were hailing the Veterans Affairs health system as a model health organization. Now that it's come out that the VA suffers from the same bureaucratic nightmares that all socialized-style systems do, progressives want to roll back the clock on their rhetoric.

Luckily, Nancy Pelosi has found the real person whose fault it is: George W. Bush. As Joel Gehrke reports:

Pelosi took a shot at Bush while saying that the scandal is a high priority for Obama. "He sees the ramifications of some seeds that were sown a long time ago, when you have two wars over a long period of time and many, many more, millions more veterans," she told reporters during her Thursday press briefing. "And so, I know that he is upset about it."

The Democratic leader never mentioned Bush by name, but she alluded to him early and often in the press briefing.

"Maybe when we go into war, we should be thinking about its consequences and its ramifications," Pelosi said while discussing the scandal. "You would think that would be a given, but maybe it wasn't. And so, we go in a war in Afghanistan, leave Afghanistan for Iraq with unfinished business in Afghanistan. Ten years later, we have all of these additional veterans. In the past five years, two million more veterans needing benefits from the VA. That's a huge, huge increase."

She suggested that Obamacare might hold the key to solving the problem.

So: during the Bush years, progressives loved the VA system and suggested its centralized and socialized nature were what held the key to fixing the rest of the American health system. Now that it's politically toxic, they've moved on - blaming George W. Bush for its problems and suggesting that their shiny new toy, Obamacare, is the solution.

News on the VA Scandal Not Yet in the News

    Darwin Rockantansky 2 hours ago

The "punch line" i.e.: "news not yet announced" is at the end of this article.

I had no contact with the Veteran's Administration for more than thirty years after I left the service until the onslaught of Obamacare left that as my only option. For the record, the medical professionals that I have dealt with in our local V.A. Healthcare system have been of the highest caliber.

A friend of mine lives WTF out in Pocatello Idaho. The V.A. presence there is very minimal because the veteran population is not all that large. For all major needs, my friend must travel approximately 175 miles south to the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

About a month ago, my friend was diagnosed with colon cancer.

When I had a suspicious growth appear in my neck last year, it took me NINE MONTHS and an intervention by the Nevada Director of Veterans affairs to get a simple appointment for a biopsy here in Las Vegas.

Given my friend's remote location, we felt our outlook was rather grim.

Yesterday, a mere 25 days after his initial diagnosis my friend had surgery. And on Monday, this Memorial Day, my friend will be released from the George E. Wahlen Medical Center.

Considering the several 350 mile round trips needed before a definitive diagnosis was achieved, the 25 day time lapse between the diagnosis and the surgery was nothing short of remarkable. I seriously doubt that I could have achieved such expeditious responsiveness back when I had expensive private insurance.

Now my friend is a man of very few words, but I spent almost an hour with him on the phone; listening to him extol the virtues of the George E. Wahlen Medical Center.

He could not emphasize how well he was treated, how professional and capable the entire staff was, how informative all his doctors were. I really wanted to reach through the phone and throttle him out of pure jealousy.

Now... For the Rest of The Story as Paul Harvey was fond of saying...

It is obvious to me and my friend that the George E. Wahlen Medical Center is extremely well run and operated by a workforce committed to the care of our veterans.

So...where would one expect to find the superstar Director of this remarkable facility.

Let me give you a clue... He is not in Salt Lake City at the moment - He is in Phoenix, Arizona on temporary duty.

We all know that Barack Obama does not give a fat rat's ass about us veterans, so this maneuver can only be the work of the current Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Erik Shinseki.

Secretary Shinseki is a veteran himself; a wounded warrior, in fact. But perhaps the skills required to be a successful and highly respected military commander do not translate well into the civilian administrative world.

And perhaps we need to find out who is the person responsible for the management of the George E. Wahlen Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah and draft him as Secretary Shinseki's replacement?

That would take the pressure off Harry Reid and he could dedicate even more time, energy, and taxpayer dollars to changing the name of the Washington Redskins.

Obama: Veterans’ health care has ‘been one of the causes of my presidency’

by Dave Boyer-The Washington Times | published on May 24, 2014

Under heavy criticism for cover-ups of delays in veterans’ health care, President Obama used his weekly address Saturday to pledge that veterans will receive the quality medical care they deserve.

“As Commander in Chief, I believe that taking care of our veterans and their families is a sacred obligation,” Mr. Obama told Americans. “It’s been one of the causes of my presidency.”

As the nation honors veterans on the Memorial Day weekend, Mr. Obama is resisting calls to fire Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki for a scandal over wait times at a VA hospital in Phoenix.

The department’s inspector general is investigating reports that workers there covered up delays in the amount of time patients waited for health-care services.
News reports allege that as many as 40 veterans died while awaiting care at the Phoenix facility.

Allen West: Obama administration’s response to jailed Marine’s plight ‘very embarrassing’

    by FOXNews.com | published on May 24, 2014

Former Florida congressman Allen West told Fox News’ Andrea Tantaros Friday the Obama administration’s reaction to the plight of the Marine jailed in Mexico on gun charges is “very embarrassing.”

Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, who grew up in Southern Florida, was arrested March 31 after he says inadvertently crossed into Mexico with weapons in his truck.

that Secretary of State Kerry was in Mexico this week, but did not demand the Mexican government release Tahmooressi.

“So right now what we have are these very neutered, pajama boy leaders, faux leaders in Obama and in Kerry and it’s very embarrassing,” West said. “It is a sad state of affairs that a Marine is being detained, a combat veteran, who could possibly be suffering from PTSD, who is guilty of nothing.”

West also said he believes the Mexican government is attempting to make money from holding the Marine.
