West Corp. plans to hire more than 300 people at its Universal City call center after landing a new client.

Tuesday's announcement will increase West's work force in the San Antonio area to about 2,700 people, spokesman David Pleiss said.

Since September, West entities have announced that they would fill nearly 1,800 positions in the area, though some of that hiring has been turnover-related. West's local work force stood at about 3,100 five years ago, which Pleiss said was likely close to its peak.

The call center and telemarketing company, based in Omaha, Neb., said the new full-time positions will be filled through April. Candidates can apply online at www.westemployment.com or in person during normal business hours at 2103 Universal City Blvd. Customer service and tech positions will pay $10 an hour, while bilingual-tech positions will pay $11.50 an hour, Pleiss said.
