CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY PARTY MOCKS HISPANICS
Calif. university investigates off-campus party that allegedly mocked Hispanics

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- A "South of the Border" theme party has stirred outrage at a Silicon Valley university after students showed up dressed as Hispanic janitors, gardeners, gangbangers and pregnant teens.
Photographs from the private, off-campus party organized by Santa Clara University students in late January appeared on the Internet soon afterward, prompting an outcry on campus.
One image shows a partygoer with a balloon stuffed under her shirt, making her appear pregnant. In another, a woman wears pink rubber cleaning gloves and carries a feather duster.
Paul Locatelli, president of the nearly 8,400-student university, has condemned the party. No students have been disciplined, but a campus spokeswoman said the school is investigating.
A protest march organized by students attracted 250 people, while the campus has held meetings and plans a forum.
"A lot of people have the idea that Mexicans or Latin Americans are all like that, and that's wrong," said Nadine Rasch, 18, a finance major from Guatemala, who did not attend the party.

Why is this news and what right does Santa Clara University have to investigate it? Remember, this was a private, off-campus party. Doesn't the party fall under the rights guaranteed under the First Amendment (the same rights recognized by the tens of thousands of criminal illegals that marched in our streets in March)?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning the party, but personally I don't think it's newsworthy and I certainly don't think it's university business."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

MW I guess when it comesd to the Hispanic vote then there is no constitution or immigration laws! What makes me sick is that they can openly discriminate against us and that is okay.

Two wrongs don't make a right (unless of course you have come here illegally and are allowed to continue to break more laws). We need to be better than that. Having said that, I fear that things will get much worse than some silly college dress up party if the powers that be don't take action.

You also have to wonder if there would be any mention if it were, say, "rednecks" being made fun of, or some other "unprotected" group. I doubt it.

I'll bet if these folks had a North of the Border party 50's party,
where girls wore little house dresses, aprons, poodle skirts,
pink curlers in their hair, and the boys came dressed in
poly suits, not one word, nor protest would have been heard.
(In other words, a white party.)
Wonder if any wore cholos, sombreros, denim hot pants and
coyboy boots (the newest fashion for Latina chicklets in So. Cal.) and brought drugs?
Besides, why take insult, if the "charactatures" didn't fit. After
all, an insult is not a completed transaction unless it is accepted.
Guess the protestors completed the transaction and therefore
agreed with it.
There are a lot of borders, and a lot of countries south of it.

And how can a student from Guatemala, who did not attend the party, be credible to call it wrong. Just drive around some sections of Escondido, and you will see numerous occurrences that were descried in this story."

In this upside down politically correct world we live in these days the United States is becoming paralyzed, and an ineffective nation. Personally I am deeply offended by the sight of Illegal Aliens marching and protesting under foreign flags, demanding rights that they do not deserve, and are not entitled to."

Oh wait, there's Archie Bunker, Al Bundy, Hank Hill and friends and Peter Griffin, The Family Guy. Perfect examples all. Frankly, I think people who are 'upset' about this 'private party' should grow a skin and get over it. "

I'm sorry.......I just don't understand what the big deal is. I've been to costume parties where it was "cowboy", "hippie", "indian", "roaring 20's", ""hawaiian", "tourist", "toga"....etc. It's a costume party. There is just no room anymore for silly fun without offending someone.
