CARRBORO -- The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles and other local law enforcement agencies are investigating a breach of security at its Carrboro Driver License office, located in Carrboro Plaza Shopping Center.

The breach of the office computer system may have involved at least 13 customers’ personal information, according to DMV spokeswoman Marge Howell.

Personal information that could have been compromised includes names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, driver license numbers, Social Security numbers and possible medical information.

"We’re not sure of the exact date," Howell said. DMV was contacted by the Carrboro and Chapel Hil police departments, which are working to obtain information about the breach and the number of people affected.

Anyone noticing unusual activity at the Carrboro Driver License Office between July 1, 2008, and April 6, 2009, should contact the DMV License and Theft Bureau at 1-877-286-6981.
