Is America Approaching Critical Mass?

Nuclear fission defines a condition in nuclear physics where atoms are being split apart. Nuclear fusion is where atoms are being fused together to make different atoms. In our Sun, the immense gravitational pressure creates very high temperatures and ignites nuclear fusion at its core.

Nuclear fusion in the Sun is estimated to be converting 600,000,000 tons of Hydrogen nuclei into Helium nuclei every second. This nuclear process of fusion releases huge quantities of energy in the form of neutrons, photons, neutrinos and gamma ray radiation. This energy is what heats the Sun’s core to 10,000,000 degrees and its surface to 10,000 degrees and what heats the Earth and the other planets. If not for Earth’s magnetic field, which diverts the Sun’s deadly radiation around it, all life on Earth would be “friedâ€
