Spending Has Collapsed, the Economy Is Next

We’ve been warning about it since the beginning of this crisis – that consumers are simply not interested in spending money they don’t have. In the first quarter of 2011 the government attempted to convince us that the economy was growing at a slow, but steady, rate of 1.8%. This was used as evidence the economic recovery had taken hold.
President Obama and his administration specifically told us that a depression had been avoided:
We can safely say that we are no longer facing the potential collapse of our financial system and we’ve avoided the depression many feared. But today’s growth domestic product revisions suggest otherwise.
President Barrack Obama – December 9, 2009
That 1.8% that convinced the average uninformed American economic activity had increased was nothing but a fabrication – a bold faced lie – and that’s official. The government revised that number to 0.4% – a significant difference. They were only off by about 75%.
Today, the government released it’s second quarter GDP numbers, and as was predicted in many alternative media circles, it’s a clear indication that things are turning for the worse. Karl Denninger weighs in:
Sorry guys, the clock has rung. It’s not ringing any more, it has rung and the spring-powered alarm has run out. Some analysts – those who are either in the tank for the government or are completely ignorant to the real facts – will claim that while the second quarter GDP is low, it’s still positive, which suggests there’s still growth.
There is no recovery to speak of.
Four years into this the policies of the government and Fed have failed.
It gets worse:
“The price index for gross domestic purchases, which measures prices paid by U.S. residents, increased 3.2 percent in the second quarter, compared with an increase of 4.0 percent in the first Excluding food and energy prices, the price index for gross domestic purchases increased 2.6 percent in the second quarter, compared with an increase of 2.4 percent in the first.”
(source: US Dept. of Commerce)
Your standard of living is being shredded.
“Real personal consumption expenditures increased 0.1 percent in the second quarter, comparedwith an increase of 2.1 percent in the first.”
(source: US Dept. of Commerce)
Spending has effectively collapsed.
This puts into stark relief the reality of the government deficit spending – it is doing nothing more than covering up an economic Depression, and the so-called “exit plan” – that private consumption, investment and borrowing will “take the baton back” is not working.
As we have pointed out in several reports previously, this is simply not the case once you factor in price inflation and monetary easing:
Note that they have the CPI at 10%. If we use that to convert nominal GDP to actual GDP, then we get big negative economic growth. In other words, the reported GDP growth is just price increases. If it wasn’t clear up until today, it should be now. Nothing the government tells us can be trusted. They will say anything and do anything to avoid panic. But despite their “best” efforts they cannot stop the inevitable. Rest assured, panic is coming.

Acquiring Hand Tools
by Calvinist Cadet in Washington
By James Wesley, Rawles on July 30, 2011 8:27 PM
Several Links on this Post
Primitive tasks require primitive tools. When endeavoring to prepare for an extended grid-down or without rule of law scenario one would do well to have on hand a ready mix of equipment and supplies which can meet the challenges requisite to providing for basic needs. Would-be survivalists often point to hypothetical situations when which they would gather water from some nearby source and make fire within there hastily crafted shelter beside their tilled, loamy garden bed, while butchering game, harvested casually in some illusionary, post-apocalyptic, Shangri-la. Without primitive or pioneer type tools, basic human functions can become impossible. A simple and comfortable pail may some day be a family's life line. An axe could be the only tool available with which to harness heat energy or make shelter. An old and worn kitchen knife the only butchering tool.
A preparedness mindset requires that we take advantage of the readily available resources of today and the pioneering knowledge and techniques of yesterday to ready ourselves for a return to the austere conditions our luxurious technologies have over come. Today, we can walk the "Lawn and Garden" aisle of a local hardware store and for a couple hundred fleeting U.S. Dollars acquire enough tools to provide for many of our needs. Some day soon we may wish we had laid up some of these basic tools. You have an axe, but do you have a maul and wedge? Do you have a froe and mallet (used for making shakes and squaring timbers)? Have you a stone on which to grind your axe or froe or maul. You have a saw, but what kind? Is it a large cross-cut for felling trees, can it cut through metal, remove the head of an elk? A man needs several types of saws for doing these relevant survival tasks.
People of today have Honda powered garden cultivators to make short work of the backyard garden patch. Now imagine clearing and amending a vegetable patch larger than your entire yard in order to feed your family some staples. And if you manage to clear this area of turf and weeds and rocks enough to support seed plants you must now weed and aerate and irrigate and fertilize and harvest this vast stretch of ground with the tools you had in your garage. So you have a spade, do you have a MacLeod (a cross between rake and pick used for ground clearing, trail building and fire line), a Pulaski, a mattock, a turf spade, a stirrup hoe, a sling blade, a pitch fork, a grain scoop? These are just a few of the necessary hand tools which were common on every homestead, even seventy years ago. Go back a few hundred more years and the very same tools were also the only weapons on the farm. Take inventory now, acquire what you will need , start using these tools and techniques, harden your hands and backs. Ready yourself mentally, physically and materially for what may lay ahead.
Do you have a sturdy watering can? You'll need one that will not clog or crack if left in the cold. How about your series of rain barrels from which to draw and water your crops. Now, we just move the hose and sprinkler around, twist the faucet, and believe our electric well pumps or worse, municipal water will flow and flow and flow. How many barrels do you have in your garage, are you equipped to catch the rain or snowmelt from your roof. Could you build an elevated (tower) type catchment system which could irrigate a broad expanse, without electricity and with the tools and lumber you have on hand? Planning on moving timbers for firewood or building structures, make sure you have a peavey (log handling) and a block and tackle to gain mechanical advantage. With regard to harvesting timber, we currently lean heavily on our two stroke chainsaws. I know I do, we run a side business selling firewood from our retreat, ensuring that we always have at least ten cords on hand and continue to perfect local, low tech harvesting and processing methods. Properly viewed a good chainsaw is a pioneer type tool. The simple two-stroke motor has no circuit boards which will fail in an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) emergency. I would assert that if you have limited fuel storage capabilities, you store premium, non-ethanol gasoline, mixed with a high grade two-stroke oil. We have been able to start and run old Stihl two-stroke equipment which sat for years with a 50:1 mixture of Stihl oil and premium non-ethanol, 93 octane gasoline. This oil has a stabilizing ingredient in it, and non-ethanol gasoline is much better for long term storage than the Al Gore alternative of "corn gas" which can gum up or go stale in under six months. If this approach were embraced, a whole other essay could be composed on which two-stroke tools to acquire.
Imagine being able to barter your ability to fall and buck your neighbors timber or run a two stroke cultivator through his lawn to save hours of shovel work turning a lawn into a garden. The two-stroke concept aside and returning to the basic premise of primitive, non-electric hand tools for pioneering chores. The notion of bartering your services with these tools and techniques is strong. In the past, neighbors and churches got together to clear a field or build a barn. The Amish still cooperate around shared pieces of equipment and tools. [JWR Adds: As I've mentioned in my book and blog, I consider small bottles of 2-cycle fuel mixing oil ideal to keep on hand for barter. This has several advantages: compact, lightweight, pre-measured, long storage life, readily recognizable, wide appeal, likely scarcity, et cetera.]
Imagine the mission field of folks who can't do for themselves, but you show up with a unique tool or ability and exhibit beautiful Christian charity by lending a hand or tool. If the idea of now starting to accumulate all of the tools you may need is daunting, incorporate conversations with your group or family or church friends. Find out how your equipment compliments that of others you will depend on in emergencies or after a collapse. These are the tangibles that Mr. Rawles has been advocating we as preppers shift our investment portfolios into. Financial resources put into these pieces of equipment will benefit you tremendously even during peaceful and prosperous times. The ability to improve your home, retreat or garden. The spiritual and physical benefits of working with your hands and getting a bit dirty. Learning processes that can provide for your own needs and passing them on to children and friends, preserving the knowledge of the old way of doing things. Every task that was previously performed with the assistance of electricity or electronic modules can and should be re-thought. Mr. Rawles has strongly advocated that every prepper have at least one vehicle manufactured decades ago, which has no crucial circuitry that is microprocessor-based. I currently use my 2005 four wheel drive pick up truck every day. Were an EMP event to occur or my fuel supplies run out, I would have to revert to man and beast for my hauling and skidding. How hard is it now to acquire a more primitive vehicle and get it into reliable condition. The late 1960s vehicles from the novel "Patriots" comes to mind, how I wish I hadn't sold my old Toyota long bed four wheel drive years ago.
Those individuals with stock animals capable of load work and the accompanying tack and gear will be so much better off. A mule, donkey, draft horse or ox will be prized so much higher than the show horses and warm bloods which are the status symbols of today's equine societies. If you are a suburban or home based prepper be sure you have one or more sturdy wheel barrows, carts or sleds. Put away a bicycle pump for airing up the tires when you can't just run over to the filling station to air up a flat garden cart tire in the spring. Anything you do not have for survival after TEOTWAWKI will have to be made, grown, harvested, scavenged, bought or bartered. Hammers, pliers, pullers, bits and augers, it is almost unfathomable what we take for granted or do not use anymore do to the readily available, chinese made, disposable items we use to sustain our every day comforts and needs. We can go online to "Harbor Freight" for the disposable equivalent of power tools. Dig a little deeper, we currently have many resources for finding the older, US made tools which continue to ably do the job they were made for. Pawn shops, Craigslist, garage sales, and even scrap yards can hold tools and equipment that today's consumers don't know the value of. A wash tub and washboard for clothes cleaning. Hand pumping well head and an inventory of piping or trough. Simple mechanical farm equipment like plows and threshers. A drilling brace will enable you to drill holes if your electric drill is useless. How many pounds of nails, screws, spikes or pegs have you put up? Centuries ago, whole structures would sometimes be burned to the ground that the nails which held them together could be gathered up and reused.
Remember all of those old wood working tools that grandfather had and used, in an austere environment? And those primitive files and chisels and planers will be invaluable. In the fields, rakes and shovels and picks of all manner and styles will be used and broken, then mended or augmented to get the many tasks accomplished. Leather working and sewing, hide skinning and tanning, water gathering, shelter building and repair, gunsmithing and reloading, farming, silage harvesting, hauling, candle and soap making, all of these necessary tasks require specialty tools to complete and in the absence of readily available grid power become especially daunting. As we ready our retreats, homes and farms for come-what-may, we must put on an attitude of confident can-do.
Consider, realistically what it will take to provide true necessities and keep the homestead going. When focusing on beans, bullets, band-aids and boomsticks, do yourself, your family and community a favor and also prepare for the basic and historical tasks of a more primitive existence. God Bless the SurvivalBlog community as we hope for the Savior's return but prepare for the worst. The tools and concepts I have referenced only scratch the surface of what one day might be required, I look forward to letters and lists from this community to thread together a strong resource for those just beginning or learning about self sufficiency.

The Care and Processing of Small Livestock on the Gulf Coast, by Jessica S.
The following are my observations based upon my experience with the care and processing of small livestock, living in a hot and humid climate on the Gulf of Mexico
Poultry:
Chicks of all species need warmth for their first few weeks, but on the Gulf Coast, and anywhere else with a hot climate, it's easy to overheat them. If you're keeping the birds outside, and it's anything over 80F or so, they probably do not need additional heat from a heat lamp or other source. Generally, I would take away a heat lamp and use a regular incandescent bulb if the temperatures were regularly over 65ish. If it is cool enough to still require external heating, keep the lamp off to one side of the enclosure. Be very careful to "round out" any corners the enclosure may have, particularly when the chicks are very young. Chicks pile up on top of each other and suffocation is a common cause of death in the early days. Ensuring there is enough room for all of the chicks also helps decrease the chance of suffocation.[JWR Adds: In our experience, an oval galvanized steel livestock water tank works quite well for raising chicks. Add a screen of chicken wire across the top to keep out curious cats and to restrain hopping chicks. By placing a 200 watt heat lamp at one end of the tank, allowing the chicks to choose a place with a comfortable temperature.] The food and water should not be under the lamp, to help minimize fouling or tipping of either. It also encourages chicks to move out from the heat. If the chicks are very young, and aren't a waterfowl species, marbles can be placed in the waterer (or bowl) so the chicks do not trip and drown. On account of their absolutely tiny size, quail chicks are particularly susceptible to falling into water sources, even despite marbles, if there is anything much more than a finger's gap between the marbles, as are guinea fowl chicks. Keep quail chicks in wire cloth enclosures for a very long time – some of the species are so small at adulthood, they can still easily slip out of standard chicken wire.
Some sources recommend treating the water with tetracycline and electrolyte additives – I personally had mixed success with that course of action. Some breeds and species seem to fail to thrive without it, and some fail to thrive with it. My best advice is to – if you choose to purchase and use the powdered additives – do so sparingly and not for long periods of time. And if you turn the water a bright yellow from how much you added – dilute it!
Chick starter, which is a higher-protein chicken feed with very small granules, can be used for most chicks with a fairly high rate of success. Some of the smaller quail species are actually too small for even that – cornmeal can be used for these, if you discover they are having issues, or grind some of the chick starter more finely.
While I have, at times, raised regular poultry and waterfowl chicks together, ducklings and goslings are very, very messy, and will make all the other chicks rather dirty, smelly, and sickly on account of how wet they'll get. The best course of action is to generally keep them separated, particularly since ducklings and goslings are happiest when they have a tiny "pond" to swim in from the get go. While very young, a pie pan will suffice for a pond (glass is better, as it is usually too heavy to tip over). The only real concern is "can they climb into it and climb out of it." If you do not keep a small swimming area for them in their enclosure, a kiddie pond is plenty acceptable, provided they have supervision (aka, "rescuers" for when they've tired themselves out). Stopped up bathtubs or sinks work, too, but as waterfowl defecate while swimming, you may want to pass on that option.
Should non-waterfowl chicks get wet, getting them warm and dry again is a priority if at all possible, as even in warm temperatures, they will catch cold and basically freeze to death. If you have a lot of chicks to dry, a heat lamp and a hair dryer (on low, held at a distance) works, but a dry towel and rubbing is better for the chicks (just be gentle!).
I have generally had poor success when grouping chicks of too disparate ages together – two weeks makes a huge difference in size for most birds. The older chicks will suffocate the younger ones, simply by being large enough the younger chicks can get underneath them and then get trapped.
Most chicks will begin to get their first real feathers (along their wings) within a week – unless it is unseasonably cold, or these are winter chicks – it is generally safe to remove a heat lamp (and sometimes even a regular lamp) once the chicks are about half feathered over their bodies. Naturally, common sense should be employed when deciding whether chicks still need their heat source or not.
Depending on the purpose and breed/species of the chicks, the methods of feeding and care after this point vary in detail, but not in the basics. All birds should have enough feed to "free feed" (unless range – these may or may not need supplementation, depending on your situation) and access to plenty of clean water. For chickens and turkeys, meat breeds can be grown at a quick rate by regulating their daily light exposure and feeding a high protein selection with added corn gluten (for that bright yellow color). Long periods of light and artificially cold temperatures are how the best "market" birds are produced. If you don't particularly care that it'll take twelve weeks instead of eight weeks for a similar size, I suggest skipping building an insulated and air conditioned enclosure. The birds turn out healthier, anyhow.
For waterfowl, if you don't provide them with a place to go for a swim, they will find one – usually another pen's waterer, based on my experience. Their food and drinking water should be kept fairly close together, as they generally need to water to help them eat standard crumble-based feed.
Once the birds are older than a month to six weeks, the care is basically the same. Adult birds should have access to grit – which is also a calcium supplementation for the laying hens. If you have guinea fowl (be careful about purchasing/acquiring these, as because of their volume and constant racket, they are generally banned in urban areas, even the urban farming friendly ones), be sure to keep them penned until they're about six months old, so they know where "home" is. The moment you let them range, if you intend to, they will spend time flying about and generally being a nuisance. On the other hand, they do tend to keep the hawks from dining on too many of your birds, as well as alert you that running outside with a weapon to scare off whichever predator was a-hunting maybe a good idea at that point.
If laying hens are your intent, be sure to build a coop with easy access for egg collecting. Our first coop had two wire doors that allowed for human entry (basically crawling into the coop) near both ends, on the same long side, the better to catch birds with. It later was modified, when we built a chicken wire enclosure with a wire roof (because of hawks), to include a chicken-sized exit in the middle of the long side without human-sized openings. The laying boxes were built into the ends of the coop, so that it was easy to reach in to collect the eggs. The coop had a solid floor, as did the nest boxes, and was raised a couple of feet off the ground to help discourage the rats. (This did not always work.) The coop was effective, but had its limitations. If you are unfortunate enough to have a cock that grows up to be violent and frequently attacks, having to crawl face-first into a coop is rather daunting. (As an aside, if any of your birds become human-aggressive, regardless of their age and quality, I strongly suggest culling the bird. An old rooster, even if past the point of being edible for your pot, makes good dog and/or pig food.)
Nest boxes should be large enough that the largest of your hens can sit comfortably in them with a couple of inches to spare. Because of this, if you intend to keep turkey hens for layers, I suggest the smaller breeds such as the Cannonball, although the Bronzes will also work.
Raising chicks from eggs laid by your own birds can be rewarding – and heartbreaking. It is a combination of equipment, practice, and luck. Research the topic thoroughly before attempting – and you may just want to let a broody hen (who will valiantly guard a nest of eggs from being taken) go through the trouble.
Chicken manure will burn plants if added straight to a garden. Let it "age" before considering adding it to a garden. I recommend adding it to the compost pile, first, so it cools down enough to not burn the plants.
A note on pigeons and squab: while squab is a fairly tasty meat, attempting to raise the chicks yourself is not something that should be undertaken. Purchase adult birds, and let them hatch and raise chicks. Squab should be "harvested" before the chick can fly, and the size will depend on the breed. The nest boxes should be placed a few feet above ground, and can probably be a little bit smaller than a chicken hen's nest box. If penned, they will need standard poultry fare. If allowed to range after they've learned where "home" is, they will pretty much take care of themselves.
Rabbits:
Rabbits are small, relatively easy to keep livestock. The meat is lean, if that is a concern for your family, and the hides can be tanned for either fur or just skin. There are many breeds of rabbits. I do not suggest the long haired breeds for at least the Gulf Coast unless you intend to keep the animal as a pet or in an air conditioned facility. Californians (white rabbits with dark colored ears, nose, and feet) and New Zealands (mostly found in solid white, but sometimes red or black as well) are the two most popular "commercial" breeds. They mature fast and are fairly prolific. The does I kept often had litters of eight kits or more. I also raised Satins, which are so named for the satin sheen to their fur – very beautiful creatures, and lovely soft furs. We tried Palominos (colored much like palomino horses), which are supposed to have excellent growth rates for their fryers (butcher sized rabbits) but had issues with their feet being torn up in cages that the New Zealands had no issues with. However, don't overlook a doe and/or buck of totally unknown pedigree. Our first doe, Attack Rabbit, and the one who produced the largest kits, although often not the largest litters, was bought at a feed store who had gotten her from someone-or-another. She was a great producer for early Spring cash – she mostly threw spotted babies, regardless of the buck, and spotted baby bunnies sell very well as Easter bunnies and pets in general.
Rabbits are best kept in multi-cage hutches, with one adult rabbit per cage (except for breeding, which is not a long-term activity for a rabbit). Commercial rabbit food is certainly sufficient – it is a mostly alfalfa pellet with some additives. Roughage, such as grass, corn stalks, lettuce, alfalfa cubes, hay, or the like, should also be provided. Chewable items, like blocks of wood, should be readily available, as rabbits have to chew on things to keep their teeth from growing too long. Salt licks (small round discs of salt) should also be made readily available. There are plain salt licks (usually just white), and mineral salt licks (usually brown in color). My rabbits always seemed to prefer the mineral blocks to the plain. Rabbit feeders can be metal containers that fit into and through the side of the cage or crocks (heavy based bowls) sitting on the floor of the cage.
Like any other living creature, water should be readily and easily available. Rabbit waterers are bottle-fed gravity metal tubes with a ball-bearing that prevents too much water from coming out until the rabbit licks it to get water. These are generally attached to the outside of the cage. There are similar "nipples" for water lines, for larger rabbitries. Some breeders prefer to offer both food and water in crocks – I personally had issues with the water crocks being knocked over more times than not, particularly once a litter of bunnies was bouncing around in the cage along with the doe.
Despite the ease of growing and raising them, rabbits have a few "issues." Rabbit urine is highly acidic and corrosive. It will, eventually, damage cages to the point of requiring repair. Rabbit feces are rather "hot," and cannot be placed directly on a garden – the exception here being blueberry bushes, which love them. Worms, however, are often grown immediately under a rabbit hutch, as they break down the waste rapidly, and thrive on it. Allow rabbit waste to "sit" under the worms' tender care for a bit before attempting to add it to a compost pile or garden directly. Adding it to compost to finish cooling down is a better option than adding it straight to the garden.
Domesticated rabbits are descendants of the European cottontails, and thus, are not terribly heat tolerant, and, in the Gulf Coast's climate, are prone to heat exhaustion and heat stroke during summer. They are also not very productive during the summer months, because of this heat intolerance.
Despite their heat intolerance, rabbits can be successfully kept in the high temperature and high humidity climate of the Gulf Coast, with a few caveats. When selecting an area for the hutches, pick an area with decent air flow and shade to help keep them cool. The hutches should not be 100% solid sided, but be at least half hardware cloth, as well as having wire bottoms. Do NOT use chicken wire as the primary material – some rabbits like chewing on it. It can be used to wrap around any wooden posts (double wrap it and secure with U-nails; it's a pain to do, but works better). A piece of wood or sheetrock should be provided as a place to sit that isn't the wire bottom. Failure to do so can cause sores on the rabbits' feet. The nest boxes should also be constructed with wire bottoms, with an ability to mostly enclose them for winter litters. The hutches should also be located in a relatively quiet area – constant loud noises will stress the rabbits and increase the chances that the does will reabsorb their litters before birth, or even eat the kits after birth.
If you build the hutch, each enclosure within the hutch should be at least two feet square plus a reasonable height – it may look like a lot of space, but a nest box should be at least 12" wide by 18" long and 12" tall. Also make sure to construct the openings large enough to easily get the nest box into the pen.
After selecting a shady area with good airflow, the next caveat is this: if you intend to breed rabbits during the summer, for late summer or early fall litters, the buck will need, at minimum, a large bottle of ice to rest beside to maintain his fertility. Bucks lose their fertility when the temperatures get into the upper 90s F. I recommend two liter bottles mostly filled with water and then frozen solid for the purpose. You should probably have at least two bottles per buck – the first bottle will probably have thawed completely out by the end of the day, and he'll need cooling even overnight often. A fan in addition to the bottle of ice certainly would not hurt the buck, nor any doe in the area. One of the more serious show rabbitries I interacted with had an entire barn for their rabbits, somewhat insulated and could be enclosed during the worst of the summer heat for air conditioning, and in all but the coldest of winter, large livestock style fans ran from every roof-corner in the barn. The reason for this was that it ensured the rabbits' fur was not thinned out in reaction to the temperatures. As I was not involved in showing rabbits, and the furs and hides were kept for home use only, we usually made due with ice bottles and fans for our bucks – or forwent litters from June to September.
Breeding is done by placing a doe in with a buck for a short period of time. We generally kept ours separated unless breeding, because neither of our bucks were very bright (we only kept two bucks at a time). I had to occasionally move the buck to the correct end of the doe. Unless it is midsummer, if a doe does not produce kits after a couple of breedings (approximately 3 months), it is probably time to cull her from the colony.
The gestation period of a rabbit is approximately 30 days, with the resulting litters being 4 to 12 kits. Place a clean nest box in her cage a couple of weeks after breeding. The doe will start nesting a few days to a week before the kits are due, and she'll do this by pulling tufts of fur from her belly to make a nest with. Fill the nest box with a mid-quality hay (not too scratchy) for her, and she'll take care of the rest. Try to ensure her toenails have been trimmed, so she doesn't hurt the babies when they're born. When the kits are born, the doe will eat the afterbirth. Occasionally, a doe may accidentally "eat" part of one of her babies – remove the corpse as soon as possible. An over-stressed doe may eat, or partially eat, an entire litter. Some … very few … seem to acquire a taste for doing so. If two litters are destroyed in such a fashion, cull the doe immediately. I have only had two does, in all the rabbits I've raised, acquire this "habit" – they both were violent rabbits to begin with. One was named Rabies, the other Rabies II. Rabies II left claw marks on my arm that took the better part of five years to fade. Does are likely to attack as they get close to birthing up until the kits have been weaned (4-6 weeks). In my experience, the ones to keep an eye on are the ones who attack without kits in the cage.
The kits are born furless and blind, but start putting on fur nigh immediately. Their eyes open between 8-12 days, and they start getting into trouble shortly thereafter. They can be safely removed from their mother's cage by eight weeks of age, and butchered from eight weeks to four months without any influence on the flavor – size and how long you want to feed them are the real factors here.
If you are attempting to grow your colony, select the best doe and/or buck from the litter. "Best" can be the largest, the most docile, the most wildly spotted, the most interestingly colored one, or what have you. If none of them meet your fancy, cull the whole litter. Sexing rabbits is an acquired skill, and not easily described with words alone. The pictures here are pretty good. Does are more useful than bucks, but raising an extra buck isn't always a bad thing. My personal preference, however, is to usually bring in a buck from another breeder, to keep from causing problems for the later generations. If you do keep any of the babies for breeding stock, make sure to keep a breeding book to track them, so you don't breed a doe to her grandfather-and-daddy – that's pushing it. Skip a generation at that point. Two unrelated bucks would be a minimum for raising breeding stock does. (If you want to get really complicated, you can also tattoo the ears of rabbits, to better track them. This is particularly useful for single-breed rabbitries which may not be able to distinguish animals by sight alone.)
Does can be bred at 6 months of age, and bucks at 7 months of age, but all the experienced breeders and books I read on the subject strongly suggested waiting until a doe was a minimum of 10 months old prior to breeding her. While a doe can theoretically be bred back to a buck the day her litter is removed from her pen, it is generally suggested to give her a short break between litters, for her own health. Processing:
I was introduced to the "art" of butchering chickens at the age for 12 or 13, when I raised my first set of market chickens for 4-H. It was messy, I cried, and hated it. I wasn't a stranger to death (one of the dogs had slaughtered, rather methodically, all but the birds that had been penned up as "the best" for show, two days before), I just wasn't comfortable with me being involved in it. Not to mention, there's something terribly savage and horrifying about seeing something's head cut off with an axe blade in real life, regardless of how many horror movies you've seen growing up as a kid.
By the time I was fourteen, and for the next twelve years, I performed almost all of the butchering. My father assisted with the larger animals (goats and pigs). He slaughtered and butchered one cow, while I assisted – I was too short to do that one primarily. When I visit now, I still lend a hand with the task if needed.
My father quickly established that I severely lacked the hand-eye coordination to use the axe to butcher chickens, and that I also lacked the upper body strength (and distance) to use the "standard" pull the neck method of breaking a chicken's neck. We cast about for a better option for a short girl in the 6th grade. We settled on tree branch clippers, the sort with handles about 2 feet long, and a short, curved blade, with a scissors like motion. It was my idea – the leverage gave me enough mechanical strength to make a clean kill, and the blades were long enough to pin a bird (and later rabbits) for the duration. My experience has been that clippers can be used successfully on birds below the size of geese and turkeys, and on rabbits as well. If the blade is sharp, the animal may be almost entirely decapitated, which allows for it to bleed immediately. I do suggest that, for rabbits, it be a two person job, to hold the rabbit's ears out of the way – their ears are extremely sensitive, and the commotion is enough to scare them a bit anyhow, no need to taint the meat. For geese and turkeys, I strongly suggest that the bird's wings be restrained (we did so by cutting a turkey-head sized hole into the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, and having the body of the bird be inside the bucket) and a .22 bullet be used. It's fast, it's still cheap, and by pinning the bird's wings, the post-death twitching/flapping/etc. cannot break the wings.
When selecting a site for processing, I recommend access to clean water, buckets for offal, and fresh air. A flat surface is necessary for poultry; a place to hang the carcass is necessary (or at least vastly more convenient) for most mammals. A sharp knife or two is important; my preferred for butchering is a skinning blade with a gut hook.
Poultry:
From this point, there are three methods for finishing poultry: dry plucking, wet plucking, and skinning. Frankly, in my opinion, none of them are particularly easy to do, but wet plucking takes my number one most-hated spot.
Dry plucking involves pretty much exactly like it sounds. I strongly recommend this method for quail, squab, and young broilers. Remove the head and neck of the bird, as well as the lower scaly part of the leg. Generally I remove the first wing joint, as well, because it is far more hassle than it is worth to do otherwise. You may need a pair of pliers to remove the primary feathers on older chickens, turkeys of any age, ducks, and geese. Grab a handful of feathers (starting on the breast of the bird is easiest), pull against the "grain" of the feathers. On smaller or younger birds, such as quail or broilers, the skin is very tender and can be torn very easily, even when plucking. Start off with a lighter hand than you might think you need, and work up in force from there. Continue to do this until the carcass is as completely de-feathered as you can get it. You may prefer to leave the tail feathers on, and remove the tail during the next step.
Wet plucking involves a large pot of very hot water. If you are going to wet pluck waterfowl, a few drops of dish soap is recommended, to break the oil barrier on the feathers, so it is possible to do so. Prior to removing the head/neck, lower legs, and wing tips, dip the carcass into the pot of very hot water for 15-30 seconds, using the lower legs as "handles." Bring the bird out of the water, and give an experimental tug on the feathers. If they pull out fairly easily, continue plucking the bird. You may have to re-dip it if it is a large bird, or it cools off too much. Be careful to not over dip the bird, as when this occurs, the skin scalds and starts peeling. You will notice that wet feathers are very clingy, and like to stick to everything – you, the table, the bird, the pot, the post one landed on when you tried to get some off your hands. Wet feathers also don't smell particularly wonderful, which is why I rather intensely dislike this method. Once again, remove all the feathers. After this, remove the head/wing tips/lower legs.
Skinning is pretty much like how it sounds. It is trickier on poultry than it is on a mammal, however, as the skin attaches in odd seeming places. On chickens, it attaches rather firmly around the leg-thigh joint, the chest bone, along the back, and very firmly attaches at the base of the tail. The skin also tears easily, so instead of larger chunks, you generally end up having nearly strips. It can be a bit frustrating, and does remove some cooking options later. Remove the head/wing tips/lower legs before commencing; it makes the task easier.
Once the bird is plucked or skinned, very carefully cut across the abdominal cavity, effectively thigh to thigh, and then approximately down the middle (there is often a sort of ''seam" here, it may just tear a bit under tension). Only use enough pressure with the blade to cut the skin, not any more than you have to use. Scoop the offal out, being careful to not touch more of the exterior of the bird than necessary. At this point, you can try to either remove the tail entirely, so as not to risk fecal contamination, or, once you have some practice, you can detach the anus from the tail with minimal problems. Rinse the bird out and off with fresh water (as well as yourself), and get the bird into refrigerated conditions as soon as possible, preferably before you start on the next bird.
Rabbits:
Mammals are more or less the same process, regardless of size. The tools necessary may differ – I don't have the strength to crack the hip bones on a cow or pig, or most goats, and need at least a hacksaw to do that job, but I can do so with a rabbit or other small mammal with my bare hands. Rabbits make for good practice animals for larger animals later, and the process is effectively the same for anything smaller.
Hang the rabbit from your chosen point. I either used bailing wire wraps around the hock of the back legs, or twine from hay bales tied into slip knots, tightened around the hock. Either way, the hock is a good place for an anchor point. The rabbit's head should now be pointing at the ground, and all directions from this point are referencing the current up-down direction.
Run your knife in a circle just below the anchor point, all the way around the leg. Pull the skin taut with one hand, and gently run the blade down the middle inside of the thigh to the pelvic area. Repeat on the other leg. Very carefully cut across below the vent area, making the two cuts meet. Peel the skin down the legs, and work a finger under the skin, just below the tail, until you can get the knife through to cut the skin. Leave the tail on the carcass; it'll be a useful handle later. At this point, you should be able to peel the skin down the body slowly. Don't peel it down completely yet.
Finish removing the head from the carcass; there is usually a good bit of blood at this point. In a method similar to the hock area, cut the skin at the forefoot area, and then break the bone at that point. Use the knife to cut through the ligaments, and discard the forefoot into the offal bucket. Repeat with the other front foot. It's now possible to continue peeling the hide off of the rabbit without impediments. If it sticks at any point, very carefully cut through the offending tissue, as you don't want to pull the hide out of shape (if you intend on keeping it). If you don't care, just remove it as necessary. If this were a larger animal, you would have sliced the hide all the way down the belly of it, and pulled the hide off that way. You can do that with a rabbit, but it's just as easy to split the hide after it's off as when it is on. If you intend to keep the hide for other uses, feel free to take a moment to lay it out on a wooden board, flesh side up, and sprinkle it with salt to start the initial curing process.
To break the hips easily, grasp one thigh in each hand, and bend them backwards. You will hear a crack, and possibly even see the pelvic bone fracture through the muscle, which is very thin. This should be more or less directly below the vent. At this point, very, very carefully cut around the vent area to open it, and down across the fracture. Using the gut hook, if you have it, or a very delicate touch with a straight blade if you must, cut the abdominal muscles all the way down to the ribcage. Cut through the tail bone, and use it as a handle to pull the intestinal tract down/away from the body of the rabbit, to prevent contamination. Then carefully remove the lower organs. You can remove the heart and lungs without cutting through the ribcage, but as rabbit is generally cut up instead of served whole, there is rarely reason to avoid doing so. Cut through the ribs and scoop out what remains. Rinse the rabbit, your hands, and knife (or knives) thoroughly. Then, gripping the thigh and foot of one leg, break the leg as close to the anchor point as you can. Repeat with the other leg. Hold on to the carcass, and cut through the remaining tendons and ligaments on one leg and then the other to bring it down from hanging.
Place the carcass into a refrigerated area as soon as possible. The meat can be aged for a day or so, if you prefer, frozen immediately, or even made that night.
Again, this is roughly the same procedure for almost any mammal. I've even used it on raccoons that managed to get caught in the traps set up to stop chickens from being stolen. (On a side note, to get rid of the really gamey taste, cook raccoon with onion, sliced apples and potatoes. The apples and potatoes won't be human edible afterwards, but the raccoon will turn out tasting rather like beef. Just be sure to cook it very well done.)

5 Tips to avoid becoming a Victim as Crime gets Worse
Monday, July 25, 2011
As I was finishing with this article my wife comes in and tells me someone tried to mug her. At around 4 PM today she dropped my son by a friend´s house and since it was just a couple blocks away she walked back. A car pulls next to her and a guy with a baseball cap comes out of the passenger’s seat and hurries walking in her direction. We don’t play baseball here and baseball caps are mostly used by people that want to cover their faces. White baseball caps are “gangsta” for some reason and criminals or criminal wannabe’s favor them. She sees that this person is walking straight towards her instead of the more normal thing to do which would have been to keep a distance given that the wide sidewalk allows it. As he gets within a couple feet of her she runs across the street, nearly gets run over by a car, but when she looks back the would-be mugger has already turned around and quickly walks back to his car. Other than some cold sweat and a bit of palpitations she’s ok.
By pure coincidence I was writing now about avoiding exactly this type of crime, everyday crime in a society that is far more dangerous than the one we used to know not that long ago.
My wife has been robbed and kept at gun point several times. She instinctively knows these things by now. Women, children and elders are favorite victims chosen by predators. This same scumbag that was looking for an easier victim probably wouldn’t have gone after me. Now my 100 pound wife, hitting her and snatching her purse is not much of a challenge for one of these animals.
As the economic crisis continues, it’s a given that this sort of thing will become more and more common even in places and countries where it didn’t happen before. That’s where people that aren’t used to it get caught off guard. This is not about egos or being the biggest, meanest son of a gun, its about applying a common sense approach to problems people may not have a lot of experience with. This goes for everyone, tactical guys that pack heat on daily basis, ladies that don’t carry a gun or any other weapon, or my 87 year old grandmother.
I’m making this clear because the internet commandos are quick to remark that they would have shot the guy at least ten times, then do a ritual to enslave their undying souls. Truth is that even people that have been into dozens of gunfights will tell you the same thing: Avoid the conflict whenever you can. Its only in movies where people get into senseless gunfights all the time. Lethal Weapon would have been a very boring movie if after killing the first guy the weapons are taken away from the lead characters, they are suspended until the shooting is cleared, then they get sued by the “victims” family, and then you spend the rest of the movie watchin Mel Gibson and Danny Glover going through their accounts seeing how they will afford the legal expenses after getting fired from the police department. Even in “good” self-defense shootings you may spend a night or two in jail and that’s only the fun part, the real nightmare begins when you have to pay for your legal defense. Avoiding the use of force and escaping is always the best alternative when such a thing is possible.
If my wife was Anne Oakley and she had shot everyone that every tried to rob her, we’d be broke by now. By this I don’t mean that you shouldn’t fight when you must. Your life is priceless and indeed its better to be judged by twelve than carried by 6, when you had no other choice that is. We talk plenty about fighting, for a change lets talk about not making any mistakes and learning how to avoid the problems in the first place.
1) Not looking rich. This is clear enough but there’s more to it than it seems. Of course having all the gold all over you is an open invitation for criminals but there are more subtle considerations too. You shouldn’t dress like a dirt bag, but you can still dress like ordinary Joe or Jane that is making a honest effort to make it to the end of the month like most people these days. For ladies other things come into play. My grandmother and my wife, they usually don’t take their purses when they are going out to buy something, just the money in a pocket. This removes the purse from the equation in the criminal’s mind: Nothing to snatch. The plan has to be different, gets more complicated. Maybe the victim has money in a pocket, maybe not. Better to just go for one with a purse so as to be sure. Today my wife took her purse, she says this wasn’t a good idea.
2) Minimizing exposure. How often do people go willingly into “bad parts of town”, dark streets, places they don’t know well enough? How many times people confess they knew they were walking into the mouth of the wolf? Avoid these situations whenever you can, try getting home while there’s daylight. 4pm seems safe, but there’s no one on the street here at that time. People are working and kids are still in school here. At 5PM though the kids go out and parents pick them up, there’s more people on the street. If there’s a route where you know there’s cops or security, chose that route to your destination instead of others, even if it’s a longer drive or walk. This also applies to other strategies. For example parking close to the buildings you’re going to so as to minimize that parking walk and being closer from help. As noted in a previous post, the time it takes you to enter or exit your home or garage is a window of opportunity for criminals. While not going nuts about it and living life, still try to minimize this sort of situation as much as possible.
3) Being aware of your surroundings. This is probably the most important trait. Shooting 3 bad guys in 5 seconds is a nice ability to have, but its better to avoid them entirely in the first place. Your chances of getting hurt or killed drop to zero, so does the financial cost of your little anecdote. That’s clearly the best possible outcome. My wife she’s good at this part. She noticed this person and avoided him, ran. If she hadn’t noticed him all she would have felt was an explosion of getting hit, “a flash of white” as a lady that got hit the back of the head when mugged once described.
4) Assessing people around you. So you notice people in your surroundings, could they be a threat to you? In my wife’s case, he was dressing a way that, in our social and cultural environment it clearly has a negative implication. If self-claimed bad guys and criminals wear white caps, then you react to such a garment. The actions and body language often speak more than clothing. Criminals are known to dress well, even wear suits to look less conspicuous. You cannot dismiss females either. More and more women are seen committing crimes, either on their own or with other partners.
5) AAA: Assess, Analyze & take Action You can´t remember everything you read, but this would be a good way to assimilate all of the above in an easy to remember rule of thumb. Assess your situation. Who’s around you? Analyze. Are any of these individuals a possible threat to me? Most of all and much faster and easier to assimilate, is any of this out of place? If your gut feeling tells you something is wrong, then you probably instinctively picked up something you didn’t register on a conscious level. If the little red light in your brain is blinking, then pay more attention. Take action, DO something. My wife told me of a time when, while in a store, a suspicious looking person walked in. Since she makes sure to stay near the door when in a store, as he walked in she walked out before even noticing what she was doing. Such fast reaction to situations your gut instinct tells you they are wrong is the kind of reaction you want to achieve. One time while waiting to cross the street I heard a loud bang that sounded like a gunshot. Without thinking I took a step forward, putting a large cement column between myself and the source of the sound. This part is important, all of the above means nothing if you don’t DO something. Freezing is the only thing you’re not allowed to do here. Freeze and you are game. Run, fight, cry out for help but do something.
It is not my intention to scare anyone with all this. Life just goes on, and an ounce of prevention has always been a great investment.
Take care everyone.

INSTANT SURVIVAL TIP: Primitive ways to stay cool
26 Comments
A heat wave is about as predictable in the summer as the presence of watermelon at farmer’s markets. If you live in an area that doesn’t usually experience high temperatures, you may find yourself and your family in danger of heatstroke. As a lifelong desert rat, here are a few tips to help you stay cool, or as cool as possible, when summer heat soars.
- Make ample use of every type of fan you own. Ceiling fans are a must, just be sure the fan blades are turning counter-clockwise, which blows the air downward.
- Turn off your fans when you leave home. Circulating air is meant to help keep your body cool. When no one is in the room, electricity is being wasted.
- If your home or apartment doesn’t have air conditioning, keep spray bottles filled with water handy. It’s amazing how a spritz of water on your face will help you feel cooler.
- Here’s an old trick I learned when I lived on a kibbutz. Just before bedtime, spritz your bedsheets with plenty of water, aim an electric fan toward your side of the bed, jump in and go to sleep, quickly!
- Use other people’s air conditioning! Last summer when our house was being renovated, the kids and I spent dozens of hours at the library, at Chick-fil-A and at Starbucks (they both have Wi-Fi!). Sometimes we’d go to the mall, but that was too dangerous to our budget. If you have friends and family who enjoy your company, pay them a visit.
- Soak in a tub filled with cool water. This will cool down your core better than a shower will.
- Wear your bathing suit around the house.
- If you’ll be outside, wet down a bandanna, place a few ice cubs down the center, diagonally, roll it up, and tie it around your neck.
- If the mornings are cool, open all your windows, let that cool air flow through your home, and then close them up as soon as the heat sets in. At that point, close your curtains, shades, or shutters. I love a bright, sunlit home, but in the summer, this works for me.
- Check the western exposure of your home. If you have windows that face west, check into inexpensive blinds from Home Depot or Lowe’s. Even, gasp!, aluminum foil taped over your windows, temporarily!, can help keep your home cooler.
- Watch the landscape workers in your town. You’ll find they always wear wide-brimmed hats, long sleeved shirts, and long pants. They know what they’re doing. It sounds counter-intuitive, but that extra fabric will protect your skin from the sun.
- If you need to do outside chores, do them in morning when the sun rises.
- Young children and the elderly are more susceptible to heatstroke. Pay careful attention to their needs. Check on elderly friends and relatives. In the great Chicago heatwave of 1995, hundreds of people died in less than a week. Most of them were elderly.
- If you must, douse your naked body with water and stand in front of a fan.
- Finally, think like a SurvivalMom. What can you do to prepare for the next heatwave?

DIY Survival Gear Test - Throwing An Improvised Spear
Friday, July 29, 2011
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZVS96ySnL...ar%2BThrow.JPG
Making your own improvised survival gear can be a great way to boost your confidence in your skills and abilities. The only problem is sometimes that gear doesn't hold up the way you planned. The best way to avoid this problem is to test it so that you will know how it performs and if there are any flaws that need to be corrected.
My recently improvised spear was put to the test and held up very well. After a few practice throws from about 25 feet, some fairly decent results were achieved. Now it takes quite a few practice throws to get it right and throwing a 5 1/2 foot improvised spear isn't as easy as it may seem. Using an old hackberry tree as a target, decent results were obtained after a couple of complete misses and a few glancing blows. My efforts actually came out as well as RW, Jr. for a change. Putting some hefty effort into my throw managed to sink the spear about 3/4 of an inch into the tree. It took some effort to remove the spear but the spear head remained intact and didn't come off the spear after it was removed. This was one of the main things that could have caused a problem. If the spear tip came off, it would be just another stick.
A picture of my best throw is shown above. Not too bad for an old guy with a pointy stick.

RW, Jr.'s spear throw turned out pretty decent as well and he managed to sink the tip solidly on target. Of course, Mrs. RW was closely supervising our activities and took her turn at throwing the spear also. Although most of her throws were glancing blows, she did manage to take a small chunk of bark off the tree being used as a target.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT: BE PREPARED AND ARMED
PART 2
By John LongeneckerNewsWithViews.com
July 30, 2011
Shortages are weapons of mass destruction
In Part I, I talked about how the household armed with lethal force will be more likely to survive in the absence of Police and EMS in time of disaster. Preparedness Lite is what I call the current crop of preparedness lectures that exclude guns from their preparedness checklist. Even Robert Kiyosaki, the voice of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad series, brings up the importance of being armed. Item #5 of Robert Kiyosaki’s preparedness list is buy a gun. [Internet search term Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Prepper Dad?]
It is not likely that America has shortages of anything. We don’t even have shortages of Gold.
We may have a shortage of Helium 3, but it’s only because we’re giving it away. Whose fault is that?
In the wonderful days of new car sales, up to and throughout the eighties, car salesmen, mechanics at both dealership and independents could punch a hole in your radiator and sell you a new one. Anyone could be as dishonest as they liked. J.D. Power and associates conceived of a thing called the Customer Satisfaction Index. With the CSI, automakers had a greater stake in pleasing the customer with a new product, Integrity, a whole new stock on the shelves in the retail automobile business. In the eighties, new car franchises would compete for the better rating with the Manufacturer, and get the pick of the litter for everything from new car inventory in the pipeline to prompt parts delivery to make the Service Department into heroes. J.D. Power was pure genius.
Wilhelm Hegel is not a name that is well known to most Americans. It is the opposite of integrity and good faith. Hegel wrote that governance ought to preside over crisis. This cannot happen in a free country without first sabotaging societal safeguards. The predators – officials who govern with this sort of management style – then move in. The trick is to be seem needed or to seem necessary. Our Founding Fathers and contemporaries reported this when they knew that necessity has been the cause of more societal disaster than nearly anything else. This spells political success, but the nation is looted, the predator’s idea of success. The application of Hegelian thought betrays a very dangerous, self-indulgent agenda which is incompatible with liberty, i.e. takings. It is a cold-blooded governance of cruelty and older anger.
Hegelian principles are not differing opinions on the same goals in America, they are hostile to the United States as just another prey.
Isn’t it about time Americans caught on to this scam?
Food shortages are engineered for takings in various ways. Availability of corn is engineered by converting corn to fuel and garnering up all the available crops. People go hungry in the name of the environment. Nothing new here except a valid case study in a long list of them.
Then, genetically engineering food crop seeds to produce only one generation makes a shortage of food as commanded by law. Who wrote such a law? Food is not in short supply, it is regulated to be in short supply as part of a spiteful model.
Energy is not in short supply, it is being legislated away by refusing to drill for domestic oil, discouraging coal burning, and more, all for spite.
[Marxism isn’t only a political belief system, it is a mindset of spite. The kind of people who become Marxists and Statists are cruel and vicious to be sure, but you can also find spiteful persons who adopt Statist policies purely for the satisfaction of being spiteful. This is a disease which has grown out of the easy-out divorce models. Three generations of broken homes make angry children who carry that wound of abandonment with them into adult life. All they know is that they like bugging people.
Jerks like Saul Alinsky give permission to these angry fellow travelers to be spiteful to others. Broken homes unleash millions of minions of heart-broken kids to seek justice which they will never find in politics, but they can extract revenge. It all serves the Marxist purpose of chaos, and we then see in retrospect why no-fault divorce was fought for so fiercely; an endless supply of minions. Shortages are a tool of the spiteful. Starvation in other countries is one such example and it’s no accident there any more than it is here.]
The point for disaster preparedness is this: shortages can be anticipated. In fact, better count on them. There are Americans who urge you to buy precious metals, experts who talk about saving food and seeds, experts who educate people on community preparedness, and experts who advocate being armed with lethal force.
Anticipate shortages as a hostility to our way of life.
The Pantry-level Brain Drain
Shortages are engineered, socially engineered. In this country, you have to actively screw things up to get the results we see.
When NASA cuts back, where do all of the engineers go? Many talented people report that they have job offers from around the world. Already.
Sovereign nations can offset their debt by taking on new pantry-level skills and talent. I just coined the word pantry-level. Pantry-level is entry level or lateral level entry of specialized, high-demand technical skill and talent such that a host nation can make a ton of money with new items to sell, develop, or export. In other words, they no longer have to go hungry with nothing to export.
Helium 3 is an isotope which is rare on earth, but in fairly abundant supply on the moon. Helium 3 is essential for the manufacture of nuclear fission. The eggheads know what is does and what it’s for, and it’s fairly important to any agency or sovereign who wants to lead in the 21st century.
This is no accident. You can call it a transfer of wealth if you like, but that’s too vague; the real name is a brain drain, and it puts America in the back seat again.
There isn’t a bus long enough to have rear seats far enough at the back of the bus for us where we’re going. It’s just another engineered shortage.
Preparedness is now a survival skill
The main thrust of preparedness is independence of a community from its public servants. You can try and depend on public services for this and that and somewhat comfortably -- that’s what they’re for! -- but if they let you down because they are overwhelmed, it’s not their fault, it’s yours. You are the Sovereign in this country, and the maximum effective range of an excuse is Zero.
Preparedness Lite has people keeping a flashlight handy with a few batteries. Preparedness True has a year’s supply of batteries as if your flashlight is the only light in the house for weeks and weeks. Get the idea?
Survival is not a matter of staying alive after a disaster’s shock or infrastructure insult, but of quality of life. It is eating well, being comfortable, being unstressed, being safe from whatever you can, and making sure others do well, too. After all, you are there and services are not.
Do this as a community where you remember that servants may come and go -- they may never even show up -- but the Sovereign remain always. If you don’t, there won’t even be a Sovereign in this country any more. The takings, remember? Those endless takings.
There’s more to survival than surviving. Freedom and liberty have to live, too, and come out intact with you on the other side.

Food, Control and the Growing Police State
by Szandor Blestman
July 28, 2011
http://www.weeklyblitz.net/pics/1654.jpg
Food has always been a tool the elite have used to control the masses. When you control the food supply, you control everything, even life and death. A starving man is more likely to sell his soul for a potato then someone with a full tummy. The relatively free market of food production and distribution that has been in place in this nation for a few centuries now has led to unrivaled prosperity. Food can, in fact, be grown for practically nothing if you have the land, the time and can afford to buy just a few heirloom seeds to grow the organic vegetables necessary for good health. This will save you money, is better for you than grocery store vegetables which may be genetically modified or may contain unwanted chemicals, and helps you to become less dependent on the state for your survival.
It is the last part of the above statement that frightens government officials. They want you dependent on them. For some, it makes them feel important. Others may just want to feel needed or helpful. Still others may just want the paycheck. Whatever the case, they don't seem to just want to leave you alone to your own devices. Perhaps that's why they're attempting to pass laws making it illegal to grow your own garden. Perhaps that's why they want to make sure you're a compliant grass farmer just like your neighbors. Perhaps that's why they're trying to control the food necessary for life.
There was much reporting done on the story of Julie Bass from Oak Park, Michigan, who was arrested for growing a garden in her (gasp) front lawn. There was so much reporting on this story, in fact, that the city of Oak Park decided to drop the charges. They had claimed that the citizens of Oak Park were in favor of such ordinances that made it a crime to have anything but nicely manicured, inedible, Kentucky bluegrass lawns (an exaggeration, but you get the idea). I think they were rather surprised when the Bass's neighbors came out decidedly against the arrest. Rather than apologizing and admitting they were wrong like normal people would do, however, they did what you would expect of government control freaks who think they're perfect. They found something else to charge poor Julie Bass with. Things get tough for you once you're on the government's shit list.
As Julie Bass's further adventures in the world of government abuse unfold, I hope she continues to receive the support of her neighbors and things turn out well for her. There are others who are not quite as fortunate as her, however, when it comes to the government's longing for complete control over food. There are other victims of inane policies of local government gangs. The homeless in Orlando are a good example.
Now, you'd think that government officials would want to help the disadvantaged such as people who have lost everything due to the economic downturn. That's what government officials would have us believe in many cases, that they are there to help when one is down and out. Why, then, would they want to make sure the homeless are hungry? Why would they want to arrest people for feeding other people who can't afford to buy a sandwich? Why would they wish to appear so callous about those who they are supposed to be helping? Perhaps they don't like the thought that they aren't the only ones who care about the plight of less fortunate people. Perhaps they simply don't like someone trying to muscle in on their charity monopoly. I'm not sure, but there is something terribly wrong with a system that decides to arrest people for helping.
There is a man, a super activist so to speak, who is trying to rectify this situation. His name is Julian Heicklen. He is a 79 year old activist who is trying to show us all what it means to truly fight tyranny and become free. He is going to Lake Eola Park in Orlando Florida on August 18th to help the "Food not Bombs" people distribute food to anyone who's hungry, including homeless people. Many have already been arrested by the not overly compassionate Orlando police for such acts of kindness. He also plans on engaging in other non violent illegal activities such as distributing Fully Informed Jury Association literature to people at the Orange County Court Complex and taking pictures of police officers doing their work to point out the ridiculousness of tyrannical laws, but it is the distributing of food down there that has really piqued my interest. The other activism is important as it sheds light on practices the controllers would like to keep secret, but one must truly wonder what on earth was going through their heads when they decided to make it illegal to help others who are less fortunate.
So, some local tyrants have decided not to allow the local serfs to grow vegetables in their front yards. They've decided that only they are allowed to help the needy, and they're doing a real poor job of it. If that's not enough to convince you of the immorality of many local governments that the common folk are supposed to be protected against, then I would point out the slew of kids' lemonade stands that have been shut down recently. Many stories of this occurring have been circulating lately and all I've heard about is people shaking their heads and complaining. Recently, however, someone has decided to do something about it.
Robert Fernandes has decided to create a website that promotes an event called Lemonade Freedom Day on August 20th, 2011. The idea is to spread the word that selling lemonade is not a crime and should not be treated as such. Don't you remember being a kid and setting up a lemonade stand? I remember doing so, only I sold Kool-Aid. I'm fairly certain that millions of children across this nation have fond memories of similar experiences. Why would someone want to steal such a valuable activity from modern youth? Why would anyone want to criminalize such a delightful piece of summertime Americana? Could it be that perhaps they wish to suppress the entrepreneurial spirit that helped build America? Could it be that their lust for control is so overwhelming to them that they couldn't care less about the children affected? Could it be that they are simply trying to drill into the heads of our youth the idea of obedience to law, no matter how onerous, bad, or immoral the law is? As I see it, authority has grown so far out of control that it has made itself illegitimate.
There are a couple of things that tie all these news stories together. The first is that none of these laws would matter if it wasn't for the enforcers, the police. All of these so called crimes would not have made the news if the police had simply said "no" when asked to arrest the perpetrators or shut down their operations. But the police in this nation seem to no longer be able to think for themselves. They have become the automatons of the state, excusing their actions because they are "just doing their jobs" just like the German Nazis excused their actions during World War II. I would point out that their job includes upholding the Constitution of the United States of America. I would point out that their job includes saying "no" to enforcing bad laws when ordered to. If things were running properly and the system wasn't so corrupt, perhaps that's what would be happening. In a perfect world, the brave peace officer who stands up to the corrupt government official would become a hero and be rewarded while the corrupt government official would get his comeuppance. Instead, we have a world where any "law enforcement officer" is punished for standing up to the system and lives in fear of losing his job or worse if he does what's right.
The other thing that ties these stories together is the common folk. It is their apathy that has allowed the system to deteriorate to this point. It is their going along to get along and simply not saying anything that has allowed the system to become so corrupt. It is their shrugging their shoulders and keeping their heads down that has allowed evil to win as much as it has, as the proverbial saying goes. Those in government have come to believe they can simply do as they please. They have come to believe that whatever they say is law and the people will grumble and moan, but simply obey and not do anything else about it. Well, that seems to be changing. The people spoke up about the Julie Bass situation and they're taking action to correct the other injustices mentioned above. Methinks that perhaps the government officials have pushed the envelope just a little too far and more than enough people can now see just how much the tyranny has grown. Next month should be an interesting one as the people attempt to trim it back.

Walnuts belong in your medicine cabinet
July 29, 2011 by Bob Livingston
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...t728_image.jpgThe omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts help lower cholesterol levels; protect against heart disease, stroke and cancer; ease arthritis and other inflammatory diseases; and fight depression and mental illness.
If you have a bag of walnuts sitting in your food pantry, you need to move them quickly. They belong in your medicine cabinet.
At least that’s the view of the Food and Drug Administration, which last year sent a warning letter to Diamond Foods, Inc., because the packaging “misbranded” the product, causing them to be drugs.
The FDA’s letter says in part:
“Based on claims made on your firm’s website, we have determined that your walnut products are promoted for conditions that cause them to be drugs because these products are intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease.”
The labels cited studies indicating the omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts helped lower cholesterol levels; protect against heart disease, stroke and cancer; ease arthritis and other inflammatory diseases; fight depression and mental illness; and provide other health benefits.
The FDA ordered Diamond Foods to correct the violations or face seizure of products or court injunction.
Life Extension Magazine reported on the letter in its August 2011 edition and cited a number of published articles highlighting the health benefits of walnuts. In other words, the FDA is ignoring the science that proves the healthful benefits of a natural food.
The FDA, which claims to look out for the health of Americans, is doing just the opposite. It obviously wants Americans to remain fat, unhealthy and ignorant. How else to explain an agency that ignores the science behind the health benefits of natural whole foods while allowing food manufacturers to get away with the spurious claims they make on the health benefits of processed foods like potato chips and breakfast bars with simulated fruit products they pass off as real fruit.
And it’s not just walnuts the FDA hates. The FDA hates many natural foods like cherries, blueberries, pomegranate juice and green tea. All of these natural foods provide scientifically proven health benefits, but the FDA ignores the science and regulates whether and how those benefits can even be stated on their packaging.
The FDA is proving itself to be an out-of-control bureaucratic nightmare that is working contrary to the health interests of Americans. It should be at the top of everyone’s list of government alphabet soup agencies to get the ax.

Cooling the brain may help induce sleep
July 29, 2011 by Personal Liberty News Desk
http://pictures.directnews.co.uk/liv...003381_300.jpgAccording to the American Psychological Association, more than 60 percent of adults have trouble sleeping at night. Recently, researchers discovered that people with sleep disorders could find relief by wearing a specially designed cap that cools the brain.
Insomnia increases the metabolism of the brain’s frontal cortex. A reduction in metabolism in this part of the brain is needed in order to get a restful night’s sleep. Scientists have found that one way to achieve this is through a process called “cerebral hypothermia.”
Participants with sleep disturbances wore a cap that cooled their heads, and over the course of the study were able to sleep for the same amount of time as the healthy control group, about 89 percent of the night.
“The most significant finding from this study is that we can have a beneficial impact on the sleep of insomnia patients via a safe, non-pharmaceutical mechanism that can be made widely available for home use by insomnia sufferers,” said principal investigator and lead author Eric Nofzinger, M.D.
This treatment is designed to treat primary insomnia, which occurs when a person is unable to fall asleep and has no coexisting condition that could be the cause of this problem.

Consolidation of seed companies leading to corporate domination of world food supply
Wednesday, July 27, 2011
by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer
(NaturalNews) Throughout the history of agriculture across the globe, farming has always been a diversified sector of the economy. Small, self-sustaining, family farms were the order of the day in most cultures. Even as small farms grew larger and more specialized over time, many of them still saved seeds or purchased them from other farmers, which kept control of farming in the hands of the people.
But today everything has changed, as large chemical and agribusiness firms have acquired or merged with seed companies and other agricultural input companies. They have successfully gained a foothold on genetically-modified (GM) crops with transgenic traits.
These primary factors and several others have facilitated a crescendo towards the global domination of agriculture by corporations, and thus the world's food supply.
The dismal state in which we find ourselves today did not come overnight, of course, but it did pick up rapid speed after the introduction of GM crops in the mid-1990s. Since that time, multinational corporations like Monsanto, DuPont, and Syngenta have seized a significant amount of control over the global seed industry, which has greatly limited agricultural diversity and freedom.
The ability to patent both seeds and seed traits has also added injury to insult, as the ability to obtain natural or heirloom seeds is becoming increasingly difficult, and many farmers feel they have no choice but to go with the flow.
Professor Philip H. Howard from the Department of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies at Michigan State University published a study in 2009 entitled Visualizing Consolidation in the Global Seed Industry: 1996 - 2008 that analyzes the trend in agriculture towards corporate dominance.
The report, which was featured in a special issue of the journal Renewable Agriculture, provides both an extensive data analysis of agriculture's dramatic transformation over the past several decades, as well as a highly-informative visual analysis of this truly shocking hostile takeover situation.
The 'Big Six" pharmaceutical and chemical companies have acquired, created joint ventures with hundreds of seed companies over the past 15 years
In order to help assist his readers in understanding the state of the seed industry, Prof. Howard developed a very informative graphic that displays the reality of who really controls the seed industry.
Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta, Bayer, Dow, and BASF collectively own or partially-own hundreds of formerly-independent seed companies -- and Monsanto, of course, dominates them all.
You can view the graphic for yourself at the following link: http://www.naturalnews.com/files/seedindustry.pdf
As you will see, the blue circles in the diagram represent seed companies, while the red circles -- which happen to all be chemical or pharmaceutical companies -- control the vast majority of them. Solid gray arrows indicate complete ownership of a company, while gray lines indicate partial ownership.
One of the most obvious first impressions to be gathered from the diagram is Monsanto's excessive and widespread control over the seed industry. According to Prof. Howard's analysis, Monsanto acquired more than 50 seed companies just during the time represented by his study period, which spans the years between 1996 and 2008.
Monsanto had little-to-no involvement in the seed industry prior to the mid-1980s, but since that time has been rapidly eating up seed companies and furthering its development and control over the food supply through GMOs. Today, Monsanto is the world's largest seed company, and the transnational behemoth continues to acquire or otherwise create "partnerships" with various independent seed companies that are still in existence.
Behind Monsanto, the other five of the "Big Six" that Prof. Howard illustrates -- DuPont, Syngenta, Bayer, Dow, and BASF -- collectively own or control a great portion of the remaining major seed companies not owned or controlled by Monsanto. And one of the biggest factors that has contributed to this dismal setup is GMOs and transgenic, patentable seed traits that are shared among the industry players.
The "Big Six" each have agreements with one or more of the others; their overall success has largely hinged on GMOs and increased control of agricultural inputs
The only thing worse than Monsanto and the dominance of the seed market are the cozy relationships with one another. Prof. Howard's analysis reveals that every company in the "Big Six" has at least one mutual relationship with one another, and they together share corporate control of the seed industry.
Monsanto has established cross-licensing agreements for its transgenic patents with every single other company in the mix, while Dow has agreements with all except for Bayer. And Syngenta has agreements with Dow, Monsanto, and DuPont, while BASF has agreements with Dow and Monsanto.
What does this all mean? It means that the already-disturbing oligarchy that controls the seed industry is shaping up to become a total monopoly with Monsanto at the helm, of course. And as transgenic technology continues to develop, which forces farmers to either go with the flow or leave the business, there may soon be no other choices in farming besides whatever Monsanto has to offer.
One would think that farmers would be more aware of this takeover and resist it. But the "Big Six" effectively fly under the radar, in most cases, by selling their seeds and chemicals through various vendors and under different names. According to Prof. Howard, this is how they effectively maintain an illusion of competition and choice in the midst of their takeover.
How things got this bad and how the situation can be fixed
Real competition in the seed industry has been systematically deconstructed over the years for numerous reasons. Besides blatant industry consolidation and takeover by drug and chemical companies, many farmers have simply been willing to accept the latest seed technologies, even when it has meant having to give up their seed saving freedom, and being forced to rely on the intensive use of chemicals and other synthetic interventions in order to farm.
Prof. Howard explains that a concept known as the "agricultural treadmill" has been a major contributing factor in the demise of the seed industry. Because demand for food is largely inelastic, any increase in production will cause crop prices to fall.
So as new farming technologies emerge, farmers that adopt them first inadvertently force all the other farmers to adopt them as well, just to maintain the same level of revenue. If they do not adopt them, or fail to keep up with other farmers on the treadmill, they will eventually fall off, or be forced out of the farming business altogether.
Other factors include changes in policy that have decreased the barriers to accumulation that have prevented agricultural takeover in the past. By developing patented, transgenic traits, seed companies have been able to overcome a barrier to accumulation in agriculture.
When farmers cannot save their GM seeds, the corporate owners can effectively maintain a continual, yearly cash flow just from selling seeds and their corresponding pesticides and herbicides, which in turn makes agriculture a vastly more profitable enterprise for preying corporations like Monsanto than it used to be.
So what is the solution? Prof. Howard suggests improving antitrust enforcement, which will prevent the continual shift of seed company ownership and gradual accumulation of the food chain by a few large companies. Another idea is to create policies that fight against the agricultural treadmill phenomenon, and that instead promote independent, self-sustaining agricultural systems that maintain control of food with the people rather than the corporations.
Perhaps the most effective suggestion -- and one that we here at NaturalNews strongly advocate for as well -- is to end the practice of granting patents on living organisms.
By re-establishing this most-effective obstacle to accumulation, there will be no more incentive for multinational biotechnology companies like Monsanto to focus on dominating agriculture because there will be no more opportunity for the massive accumulation of wealth and capital through patented seeds.

Now Gov't Trying to Ban Sale of Your Supplements
Friday, 29 Jul 2011 03:30 PM
By Chris Gonsalves
Sen. Orrin Hatch blasted a new bill that health experts are calling a government takeover of the vitamin industry.
New legislation proposed by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., earlier this month would crack down on the testing, labeling, and sale of dietary supplements nationwide.
“I don’t know why we should add more regulation when what we have on the books is working,” Hatch, a Utah Republican, told Newsmax.
The increased regulation almost certainly will deny many Americans easy, affordable access to the natural health products they rely on daily, experts warn.
“This unnecessary power grab would benefit FDA regulators and pharmaceutical companies by taking their competitors off the market, and it would harm the American public,” says Michelle Minton, director of the Insurance Studies Project at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Washington D.C. watchdog group.
Sens. Durbin and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., quietly submitted the Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011 over the July 4th weekend.
Despite its innocuous title, the bill would force a massive reclassification of food additives and dietary supplements to be managed by the Food and Drug Administration.
Durbin’s bill was made public on the same day the FDA issued proposed new guidelines that would alter the way the agency approves and polices vitamins and dietary supplements.
“Regulatory hurdles such as these are a means by which government bureaucrats get in the way of individuals’ ability to make their own decisions about their healthcare,” warns Minton.
The combination of the two anti-supplement initiatives would force natural health manufacturers to submit to expensive government testing, adopt new labeling, and compete for market share with well-funded pharmaceutical makers who already have long-standing and mutually lucrative relationships with the FDA, health industry insiders say.
Popular supplements now being sold without government interference would be removed from shelves, in some cases for years, pending FDA tests and approval. The cost of all dietary supplements would likely spike as a result of the additional regulatory burden.
Under existing law, the FDA already has enough authority to ensure supplement safety, said Sen. Hatch. “In fact, several former FDA commissioners have said that the agency already has the appropriate and sufficient level of oversight of this industry," he said.
Sen. Durbin claims his bill is aimed specifically at the gray area of food and drink products that pose risks or make questionable claims based on dietary supplement ingredients. The issue gained traction in the wake of a number of hospitalizations of children who ate pastries laced with the sleep-aid supplement melatonin. The foods are marketed under the names Lazy Cakes, Kush Cakes, and Lulla Pies.
“Walk down the aisle of your local convenience store and you will see products targeting young people with names like Lazy Cakes, Drank , and Monster Energy Drink,” Durbin said. “These products market themselves as dietary supplements that are safe ways to relax or get a boost of energy, when in reality they are foods and beverages taking advantage of the more relaxed safety standards for dietary supplements.”
The Durbin bill is now before the Senate committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. The HELP committee is chaired by Sen.
Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, a well-known advocate for natural health supplements. Insiders hope Harkin’s influence along with other HELP members known to support the supplements industry, including Sen. Hatch, will result in the death of the proposal.
Unwilling to take chances, however, advocates of natural healthcare are already lining up to oppose the Durbin measure.
"The supplement industry has an excellent safety record, and burdensome, duplicative new regulations are not needed,” says John Gay, Executive Director and CEO of the Natural Products Association, a trade industry group.
Adds Minton: “The decision about which supplements are right for whom ought to be left to consumers and their healthcare providers.
“The Durbin and FDA proposals do nothing to improve the safety of the supplement marketplace and likely will eliminate many of the available products.
“The increased cost and decreased variety will mean that many consumers, especially low-income ones, will be forced to stop taking the vitamins and nutrients that can benefit their long-term well-being.”

Gerald Celente: Economic Martial Law Will Be Declared
By Mac Slavo
SHTFplan.com
August 1st, 2011
In his latest quarterly Trends Journal (Summer 2011), Gerald Celente provides us another “history of the future,” in which he discusses global economic, monetary, and political events as they happen and what their consequences will be for months, years and decades to come.
As he has said before, it is only a matter of time before a major terror attack is executed in a major Western nation. And once it happens it will send shock waves throughout the world, leading to mass global panic and a further tightening of the noose around the necks of the populace:
What will another major terror strike mean? Should an attack hit one of the major NATO nations, the effects, this time, will go global. Bank holidays will be called, the US and other fragile economies will crumble, gold and silver will soar, and already-troubled currencies will crash.Since “terrorism” is now a term we can use to describe just about any action deemed a threat to the public and government infrastructure, the possibilities for what the next “terror attack” will look like are endless.
Economic martial law will be declared. Introduced as a temporary measure, once in place it will remain in place (like the curfews and draconian security precautions installed by despots and dictators everywhere). Civil rights will be suspended and, particularly in America, Homeland Security, already intolerably intrusive, will achieve an Orwellian omnipresence.
With banks closed and economic martial law inplace, restrictions will be set on the amounts, times and frequency of withdrawals. As we have cautioned before, it will be essential to have a stash of cash on hand. Even though governments will devalue their currencies, it will happen in stages. Speaking only for ourselves, we at The Trends Research Institute will not be storing precious metals in bank safe deposit boxes.
It can come in the form of suicide bombers at your local shopping mall, a cyber attack on financial markets launched via the internet, or any number of other potential threats that have been recently highlighted by our Department of Homeland Security.
There need be only a single event that occurs at an opportune time and is pushed by the mainstream media and all hell will break loose.
Imagine, for a minute, what America would look like if nationwide curfews were implemented, civil rights were suspended (including confiscation of guns), the US dollar crashed, ATM’s and credit card transactions were restricted, and food and gas purchases were limited.
The Presidential executive orders are in place, Fusion Centers and FEMA detention camps are operational, and 20,000 US troops have been trained to deal specifically with economic collapse and civil unrest and are ready to be deployed immediately.

Storing and using dried eggs and powdered milk
August 1, 2011 by Peggy Layton
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...g729_image.jpg Any recipe calling for eggs or milk can easily be converted to use dried and powdered milk and eggs.
When I go to the grocery store, it’s usually because I am out of milk, butter, sour cream, yogurt or eggs. Fresh eggs and fresh dairy products are hard to store and highly perishable. My husband and I have chickens and gather fresh eggs every day. But what do you do if you don’t have chickens or a cow or a goat, and what if you live in an apartment or an area of the city where raising animals is prohibited?
I believe dried products are the answer. You will hear them called dried, powdered and dehydrated. These are all terms for the same process. The water is removed, and the product is dry. It’s fairly simply to reconstitute them; you just add water.
The following items are available on my website. I can ship them to you in gallon-sized cans that are prepackaged in a case of six cans for long-term storage (five or more years). They have oxygen absorbers in them to preserve the food and increase the shelf life. The products available for purchase include: dried whole eggs, scrambled egg mix, powdered milk, dried buttermilk, sour cream powder, butter powder, cheddar cheese powder and mac-and-cheese powder. At www.peggylayton.com, you can pick and choose any six dried products to make up a case.
Any recipe calling for eggs or milk can easily be converted to use dried and powdered milk and eggs. I have written two books that are very informative: Cookin’ With Dried Eggs and Cookin’ with Powdered Milk. The egg book features recipes for scrambled eggs, omelets, egg custards, French toast, pancakes, waffles, crepes, egg noodles, mac and cheese, quiche, egg pie, breads, salads and desserts.
The powdered milk book explains how to make whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, buttermilk, quick and easy cheddar cheese, feta or farmer cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, cream cheese, cheese sauce, milk beverages, sauces, soups, chowders and puddings. The book also includes recipes for simple suppers. Both books are available on the website.
Dried eggs can be stored long-term
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne..._egg-whole.jpgThe only practical way to have a supply of eggs on hand for long-term storage is in the dried form. They can be reconstituted with a small amount of water to make them the consistency of liquid eggs. These reconstituted eggs can be used to substitute for any egg called for in a recipe.
Because the product is real egg, it must be treated like fresh eggs. Kept in a cool, dry place away from moisture and cook thoroughly. I like to keep dried eggs in the refrigerator in quart jars with tight-fitting lids.
Dried eggs are made from fresh grade-A eggs that go through a special process to dehydrate or freeze-dry them. They are 100 percent eggs and can be used in baked goods or scrambled eggs, just like fresh eggs.
The shelf life of dried eggs
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...dried-eggs.jpg
Once dried eggs are opened, they need to be used within one to two years. If unopened and kept cool, the eggs last five to 10 years. It is important to purchase the dried eggs that have been nitrogen packed or that have oxygen absorbers in the can to remove all oxygen. Oxygen left in the can increases rancidity and the loss of nutritional value.
Dried eggs should not be used in uncooked beverages or foods such as eggnog, salad dressing or ice cream. Cooking the product thoroughly will kill any salmonellae or other bacteria that might be in the product.
Reconstituting dried eggs
There are two ways to use dried eggs (make only the amount of eggs called for in the recipe):
Recipe for scrambled eggs or omelet
- Method No. 1: Measure the dried egg with a measuring spoon. One fresh egg equals 2½ tablespoons of dried egg powder mixed with 2 ½ tablespoons of water. Put the warm water in a bowl and sprinkle the egg over the top. Whisk it together until it is smooth.
- Method No. 2: Combine all dry ingredients, sift and measure the dried egg before combining it with the dried ingredients. The extra water needed to reconstitute the egg is added to the wet ingredients in the recipe.
1 cup dried whole egg powder
2 tablespoons powdered milk
1 cup water
Salt and pepper to tastePowdered milk for long-term food storage
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Whisk until well blended.
- Pour mixture in the bottom of a frying pan with a little oil.
- Add 1 teaspoon each of other ingredients if you wish, such as dried cheese powder, dried bacon bits, reconstituted green pepper, mushroom and onion.
- Let the egg mixture cook until it can be broken up into scrambled eggs, or use it as an omelet and turn it to cook the other side.
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...stant-milk.jpgPowdered milk was developed out of necessity. For years, man tried to find ways to preserve milk, because it will not keep in its natural state. The dehydration process was developed to preserve the nutritional value for longer periods of time. Powdered milk is made from 100 percent fresh milk that has gone through a process to remove the cream and water. The non-fat instant powdered milk contains no fat, which results in half the calories, yet retains the natural calcium, phosphorus, minerals, essential protein, carbohydrates and lactose, or milk sugar.
Powdered milk is made by removing some of the water, creating highly concentrated, thicker milk. This thick milk is then sprayed onto a revolving heated drum. The drum has a chamber containing hot air that pulls the water away from the milk, leaving powdered, or dry, milk.
The advantages of using powdered milk include:
Any recipe calling for fluid milk can be converted to using powdered milk by following the instructions on the label and adding water to reconstitute it. Powdered milk can be added dry to the dry ingredients in any recipe. Just add to the wet ingredients in the recipe the amount of water necessary to reconstitute the powdered milk.
- It needs no refrigeration
- It can be easily stored and used for long-term food storage.
- It prevents waste.
- It mixes and measures easily.
- It is low-fat and contains only half the calories of fluid milk.
- It’s economical.
Storing powdered milk
The ideal temperature for storing powdered milk is 40 degrees F. It needs to be in a cool, dry place away from moisture and light. The galvanized gallon-sized container the milk is stored in is ideal because it has an oxygen absorber that removes the oxygen and extends the life of the milk. Powdered milk can be kept on a shelf in a container with a tight-fitting lid for six months to a year. If you open a can or box of powdered milk, repackage it into quart jars with tight-fitting lids. I like to keep my powdered milk in the refrigerator so it will keep longer. Light will cause deterioration of the milk as well. If the flavor is changing and you smell an odor, make cheese with the powdered milk. I add sun dried tomatoes and basil to my cheese, and it is delicious.
To make powdered milk taste better, reconstitute it and chill overnight. Whip it in a blender to incorporate more air into the milk. I used to mix half and half regular milk with reconstituted powdered milk and put it in the milk jugs so my children didn’t notice we were using powdered milk. This is how I would rotate the milk. My daughter still teases me today for this.
Here’s how to incorporate powdered milk into recipes:
Yogurt from powdered milk
- Use 1/4 cup powdered milk to 1 cup of potatoes. Powdered milk in mashed potatoes makes the potatoes creamier. Use the potato water to get the right consistency of liquid.
- Add 1/4 cup powdered milk to each cup of cooked cereal before you cook it.
- Add 1/4 cup powdered milk to meatloaf for each pound of meat and mix well. Powdered milk will add tenderness and flavor by absorbing and holding meat juices.
- Powdered milk produces better browning in baked goods.
- Powdered milk can be sifted with dry ingredients for cakes and breads, or mixed into flour for sauces and gravies. Just add the liquid to the wet ingredients. It works as well as reconstituting it first.
2 cups instant powdered milk
2 tablespoons plain yogurt from the store
3 cups lukewarm waterhttp://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...-eggs-book.jpgYogurt is fermented milk. Bacterial microorganisms change the lactose of the milk to lactic acid. This helps preserve the milk longer. It can be kept in the refrigerator for a month. Yogurt is good for you and contains friendly bacteria, which aids in the digestive process.
- Blend all ingredients in the blender or whisk until it is dissolved.
- Place it in glass jars in a warm area of your kitchen. It can take anywhere from four hours to a day to thicken up and make yogurt. Do not stir or disturb it for the entire time. Placing the jars in an oven that is set at the lowest temperature (110 to 120 degrees F) will speed up the process.
- When the yogurt is finished, chill it in the refrigerator. You can add fresh fruit and ½ teaspoon of vanilla per quart jar of yogurt.

Packaged meals
I have been storing packaged meals called eFoods. They are ideal for long-term food storage because they are packaged in Mylar® pouches that serve four people. Everything is in the pouch except water. Just add water and cook the food for 15 minutes, and it’s done. The meals are delicious, and the company will let you try samples of the meals before you buy. Just pay $9.95 for shipping, and you get three meals that serve four people. I find them very delicious and easy to make. That is what you need in a crisis situation. I don’t just save them for a rainy day; I make the e-foods for meals when I am in a hurry, in the mountains, camping, hiking or feeding a crowd. I have decided that premade meals are the best food storage you can buy. They are fast, easy and convenient. You don’t waste food that way. This company has a program through which you can get one box of food per month. They call it “auto-shipment,” and it’s great! All you need is 10 minutes to set it up, and your food storage will be on auto-ship. Each month, you get a box of food delivered to your home. Discover the healing benefits of grape seed extract
August 2, 2011 by Bob Livingston
Because of its many health-promoting properties, grape seed extract (GSE) is often called a “miracle remedy.” For centuries, the leaves and fruit of the grapevine have been used in Greece for healing a variety of ailments.
According to Dallas Clouatre, Ph.D., in his book, All About Grape Seed Extract, GSE helps fight “allergies, arthritis, diabetes, heart and blood-vessel disorders and vision problems.” In the United States, GSE is perceived as merely a food supplement and is not nearly as well-known as it is in many European countries. Physicians overseas recommend GSE for cardiovascular disease, water retention, varicose veins, collagen damage, arthritis and skin conditions.
The National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine indicates that GSE can help fight high blood pressure, high cholesterol and poor circulation. Plus, it contains antioxidants that can help fight the free radical damage to your cells that could possibly lead to cancer.
For these reasons, there are “very few items in the nutritional arsenal [that] can boast as many and varied potential benefits as grape seed extract can,” Clouatre indicated.

USDA declares most of Oklahoma an agricultural disaster
August 2, 2011 by Personal Liberty News Desk
http://pictures.directnews.co.uk/liv..._10645_300.jpgThe United States Department of Agriculture recently declared most of Oklahoma a disaster area.
Seventy-four of the 77 counties in the Sooner State have been labeled disaster areas due to drought and wildfires, according to The Oklahoman. The far northeastern counties of Nowata, Craig and Ottawa were not named by the USDA.
The action by the Federal agency is in response to a June 10 request by Governor Mary Fallin, who asked that disaster be declared to help the State’s farmers. Now, these farmers are eligible for Federal aid from the Farm Service Agency.
The Red Cross offers a number of tips for people who are dealing with drought. There are many small steps that can be taken to ensure that as much water is conserved as possible, such as running the dishwasher only when it is full and starting a compost pile rather than using a garbage disposal.
Other ways to conserve water during a drought include checking the house for leaks, taking shorter showers and placing a bucket in the shower to catch excess water, which can be used for watering plants.

Migraines, Magic Shots And Lies Perpetrated By Conventional Medicine
August 3, 2011 by Bob Livingston
http://plimages.blob.core.windows.ne...ot82_image.jpgMigraines already cause suffering. So why does the medical establishment insist on making things worse with shots that don’t work?
I have a friend who suffers from migraines (not Rep. Michele Bachmann, though I’m sure she’s a delightful person). The young lady of whom I speak has suffered from this condition for most of her life. Unlike the aforementioned Presidential candidate from Minnesota, my friend’s migraines are often debilitating. For years, she sought answers from Conventional Medicine, until she got some unusual advice in an emergency room.
The young lady in question recently visited her local emergency room twice in the space of five days for two separate migraines. On the first visit she was given a shot, often referred to as the “magic shot,” which consisted of Phenergan and “enough Demerol to bring down a bull elephant” — the words of the on-call physician. The shot made her fall asleep for about three hours, after which she awoke and suffered for an additional 26 hours before the migraine abated. All told, that migraine lasted for 72 hours.
On the second visit, she was attended by a nurse practitioner (NP). This man, she told me, was different. After she explained her current symptoms and related her experience during the first visit, the NP closed the door to her room.
“Do you want to have the shot,” he asked, “or do you want to get better?”
Taken aback, my friend replied that she wanted a treatment that worked. The NP then explained that, in the fast-paced world of emergency rooms, most medical professionals assume the people who come in complaining of migraines just want the “magic shot.”
“If they’re drug seeking, it’s faster to just give them the drugs,” he explained. “I never prescribe opioids for real migraines.”
In all the years my friend had been visiting emergency rooms, she had always received a shot. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. Never, not once, had she been told that she was being treated like a mere drug addict.
It turns out, Demerol (chemical name meperidine) does not cure migraines, and hospitals know this.
“Despite guidelines recommending against opioids as first line treatment for acute migraine, meperidine is the agent used most commonly in North American emergency departments,” read a study reported in Annals of Emergency Medicine, a peer-reviewed medical journal.
The study concluded that: “Meperidine is less efficacious and associated with more side effects than DHE regimens in acute migraine headache. There was also a trend towards decreased efficacy of meperidine compared to anti-emetics… Clinicians should consider alternatives to meperidine when treating acute migraine with injectable agents.”
The NP instead prescribed for my friend what he called “the migraine cocktail” — Benadryl, Compazine and Toradol, given intravenously with a liter of fluids. This remedy contained no narcotics and was relatively mild as far as prescription drugs go (although prescription drugs should be avoided, of course). Because this treatment takes an hour to administer, emergency rooms rarely offer it, choosing to just give migraine sufferers the shot.
While I applaud the NP’s non-use of opioids, I would add that at least one study has found that a popular supplement, coenzyme Q10, may be successful in preventing migraines.
A 2004 study reported at the American Academy of Neurology’s annual meeting found that migraine patients who took 100 mg three times a day of CoQ10 — which acts as the body’s energy producer — had fewer attacks in three months than those who took a placebo. The participants taking CoQ10 also had fewer days with a headache and fewer days with nausea.
My friend’s migraine was gone within half an hour of being treated with the “migraine cocktail,” but when she spoke to me she felt sick — over the way she had been treated by the medical community through the years.

Omega-3s May Protect Infants Against Common Disorders
August 3, 2011 by Personal Liberty News Desk
http://pictures.directnews.co.uk/liv...007222_300.jpg
Even more benefits of omega-3 fatty acids have been found this week. Researchers at Emory University have discovered that consuming these compounds during pregnancy may protect babies against diseases that can occur in infancy.
“This is a large scale, robust study that underscores the importance of good nutrition during pregnancy,” said researcher Usha Ramakrishnan, Ph.D. “Our findings indicate that pregnant women taking 400 mg of DHA (omega-3s) are more likely to deliver healthier infants.”
Babies whose mothers took omega-3 supplements saw a 25 percent reduction in cold symptoms during their first month of life. After three months, the babies spent 14 percent less time ill. By the time they reached 6 months of age, the children were experiencing less difficulty breathing and shorter incidences of fever.
All of the infants who participated in the study were breastfed. Researchers also found increased levels of omega-3s in the breast milk, suggesting that may be why the babies experienced the effects of the omega-3s long even after being born.

Home Remedies for Bites and Stings
Soothe Bee and Wasp Stings with Meat Tenderizer
After you scrape off the venom-filled stinger, reach for meat tenderizer. That one step, say researchers at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, CA, can cut the welt size and pain as much as 25 percent. Just mix 1/2 teaspoon of meat tenderizer with just enough water to make a thick paste. Dab on and leave for five minutes. Repeat after a few hours if the pain persists, suggests Arthur Jacknowitz, Pharm.D., a professor of clinical pharmacy at Morgantown’s West Virginia University School of Pharmacy.
Why it Works: “Meat tenderizer is rich in papain -- a digestive enzyme that breaks down the inflammatory proteins that stinging insects leave in skin -- taming the itching, swelling and pain in as little as three minutes,â€
Footage of Mass Troop Movements Across U.S. - Are They Getting Ready?

Editor’s Note: We’ve long reported about the training of US military personnel for domestic deployment in the event of large scale economic breakdown, civil unrest, terrorism, and catastrophic natural disasters like asteroids. It is clear based on historical precedent that the government would hold off as long as possible before alerting the American people of an impending disaster or emergency. We strongly believe that if an ‘event’ was imminent, details and clues would emerge through alternative news reports across the internet – most of which would trickle in from user comments, forum postings, video uploads, and independent research groups like The Intel Hub. Most, if not all, of that information would be ignored and/or discredited by mainstream media, especially if the government knew of such an event and expected pandemonium and hysteria as a result. Nonetheless, it has been our mission to report on the out-of-the-ordinary occurrences in the world in the hopes of alerting our readers to fan hitting scenarios. Non-traditional news reporting may be the only preemptive warning system we have. While we urge readers not to panic, we suggest, as always, to be aware of what’s going on around you and consider the possibilities – and to plan accordingly.
In the last month and a half, The Intel Hub has received hundreds of credible tips from citizens who witnessed and or photographed domestic military/foreign movements within The United States.
While some of the reports can be written off as normal troop movements, the sheer amount of reports indicates something possibly more sinister.
To top it off, a large majority of military vehicles that have been spotted were not painted for desert conditions, rather they were sporting digital and city camouflage.
We now have reports and video evidence of multiple military convoys traveling in and around Portland Oregon.
This comes just days after The Intel Hub released photos sent to them by a concerned citizen that showed a military convoy of tanks, humvees, and jeeps, in the same type of camouflage and a week after multiple sightings of black helicopters throughout The United States.
Clyde Lewis, a veteran radio host, has had multiple callers report military movements seen in both Portland and Oregon City, Oregon.
As reported on Ground Zero, troop movements and or military movements have been reported on Ground Zero for several nights now. A caller phoned in that she witnessed that largest movement of Military vehicles, (Tanks, cannons, and other vehicles) through Portland and then southbound.
Another listener Jim sent us three known videos of this train From You Tube and the shots from witnesses are nothing short of breathtaking. Each video shows the movement of Military vehicles not painted for desert operations, but with digital or city camouflage. The question is where are these hundreds of vehicles going and for what reason?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTUgsPfWiwM&feature=player_embedded
In the last two months alone we have published over a dozen reports of suspicious troop movements.
Military Movements CONUS: TIPS Thread
In late June, multiple truckers reported moving military equipment across The United States, including rocket launchers heavy artillery, and tanks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoKUT8ebR_s&feature=player_embedded
Around the same time that the eyewitness trucker report was broadcast live on The Power Hour with Joyce Riley, The Intel Hub was flooded with tips of our own.
From No Fly Zones, to miliary train convoys in Washington, to convoys along the Tennessee/ Kentucky border, all the way to military personal in fatiguesseen in white vans in Arkansas City, reports of suspicious domestic troop movements skyrocketed.
Considering the fact that 20,000 troops have been openly trained to take on the American people in the event of a large scale terror attack or economic collapse, the hundreds of extra troop movements that have been documented in the last two months could be more then simple summer time training.
While 20,000 doesn’t seem like much, the fact that they are admitting any amount should send a clear message as to the levels that they intend to go to stay in power.
Super Congress
At the same time that these military movements are being documented, the Congress and the corporate media have fear mongered over the supposed debt ceiling crisis to the point where they were actually able to come to a compromise that included a completely unconstitutional Super Congress!
This so called Super Congress will include 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats who, along with the president, will have total control.
It has even been announced that members of Congress who voted against the debt ceiling compromise will not be considered for a position within the Super Congress.
As the public sits idly by wondering if their social security checks are on the way, troop movements, both American and foreign, have considerably ramped up, possibly in anticipation of large scale public outcry over the massive power grab now being called The Council Of 13.
Other possible reasons for the massive movement of military equipment throughout the U.S. are earth changes, plans for another middle east war or Libya ground invasion, normal training exercises, and anticipation of a massive terror attack.

Note: All footage of military vehicles inside the United States was taken on public roadways by numerous people not affiliated with The Intel Hub.

Monsantos FDA Goes After the Countrys Only Safe Milk
Posted on August 5, 2011 by geobear7 | 25 Comments
http://foodfreedom.files.wordpress.c...pg?w=389&h=205
By Yumi Dood
Dairy is central to both the food supply and to sustainable agriculture. The FDA (run by Monsanto) is taking it apart. Rather than being harmful, raw milk is the only safe milk in the US and has innumerable benefits not found in pasteurized milk.
The health community (doctors, researchers, public health officials) need to stop being misled by corporate media and find out what is happening to their own food. They might be interested to know that the new “food safety” law that gave so much power to the FDA to go after big corporate facilities with deadly contamination is being used just as farmers said it would be — to get rid of access to safe food and shut down natural and organic farmers.
They might also be surprised to learn that Obama put Monsanto in a position to be in charge of all food and farms in the US by making a Monsanto VP named Michael Taylor, Czar of the food safety division of the FDA. That division (that is to say, Monsanto) is in court right now attempting to remove the right to choose food, consume or feed our children the food of our choice, the right to contract between ourselves (for it or anything else), and the right to our bodily and physical health. Worse, the case appears rigged to be lost and to leave those precedents.
Will the scientific/medical/public health community wake up to what is happening and the threat to their own food supply? How quickly can they then begin to appreciate that they got duped on what is safe and what is dangerous.
It turns out that pasteurized milk doesn’t reach a high enough temperature to kill off the Crohn’s bacterium getting into the milk from the sick cows in the industrial dairy herd. The temperature is high enough to destroy enzymes and friendly bacteria, though.
The lie about raw milk being dangerous serves to end sustainable agriculture (dairy is essential to it) and local organic food and farmers markets, so there will only be corporate food, and no more truly safe, truly whole food.
“How could this be,” they might ask, “since that would mean everyone would become sick?”
No truer assessment could be spoken, though it may be hard to take in, but not, however, if one appreciates that great profits are to be made from those diseases. Once that becomes plain, suddenly one can see the Idiot Cycle we have all been on that requires our being sick. Real food is healing so it must be criminalized and Monsanto is going about that like gang-busters, or rather, like farmer-busters — leaving the dairy “gangs” un-busted.
When it comes to getting rid safe food so all the food is controlled by corporations and making sure food is lacking in real value, that is a partial description of Codex Alimentarius. One need only eliminate nutritional supplements to complete the full Codex plan — inescapable ill health and immeasurable pharmaceutical profits. Dame Judy Dench narrates an excellent video on it, called We Become Silent.
About what Monsanto just did in California, we can’t be silent. This follows recent news about the safety of raw milk.
And yet the conspiracy is on Monsanto’s part (as this video shows), while the government’s interest in actual “food safety” is a lie. Why did Obama put Monsanto’s VP Michael Taylor as Czar of the FDA’s food safety division? He came in on Obama’s transition team. How did he get there? What deals were struck? Did money change hands? Were there threats?
Obama remains silent as the FDA organizes armed raids on innocent people, confiscating and destroying truly safe food.
The National Health Federation wrote:
“A Medline search [search terms: raw milk death/raw milk fatality/raw milk fatal/raw milk fatalities] produced a single citation of a single case of death in 1983 of a 72-year-old woman during “an outbreak of illness caused by raw milk” (Tacket CO, Dominguez LB, Fisher HJ, Cohen ML. JAMA. 1985 Apr 12; 253(14):2058-60.) Since Medline citations go back to 1949, this means that, absent information to the contrary, there has been one Medline-documented fatality over a period of 57 years from the consumption of raw milk produced in the United States.
“How do FDA-approved drugs compare? Even if one considered only the last 21 years of this 57-year period (starting with the GAO Report year of 1985), using the conservative figure of 100,000 deaths per year from the use of properly-prescribed-and-used FDA-approved drugs, then the death-toll from the use of FDA-approved drugs over this considerably shorter period of time has been at least 2,100,000 victims.”
But isn’t pasteurized milk safer?
No. Back in 2000, the LA Times reported that researchers discovered that the microorganism that causes Crohn’s disease is transmitted via milk. It turns out that pasteurized milk can be cultured for the Crohn’s bacterium. The FDA has known this for more than a decade and has done nothing.
Crohn’s statistics are not pretty. The incidence of Crohn’s disease was 7 new cases per 100,000 people per year (1984–1993) which jumped in 2001 to 162 cases per 100,000 people per year, while the hospitalizations for Crohn’s in 2002 was 104,780, and in the same year, the mortality was 825 deaths.
The source of the Crohn’s bacterium appears to be the diseased cattle living under terrible conditions in the industrial dairy system.
Raw milk, on the other hand, is produced by local farmers outside the industrial system. The cows on these farms are typically raised on grass (their natural diet), so are not fed GMOs, pesticides, slaughter house waste, and do not live under disease producing conditions. They are not given hormones, antibiotics or the 20 or more drugs industrial dairy cows ingest.
The industrial dairy system is quite another thing. Here is a 4-minute video on the Dairy Industry and its Hard Core Corruption, Politics, and Poisoning.
It’s interesting to see the comparison between raw milk’s safety and pasteurized milk’s dangers is similar to the safety of nutritional supplements compared to pharmaceutical drugs.
Here, too, the FDA is trying to eliminate safe nutritional supplements (which are health giving and even curative) while the FDA allows drugs that are killing people in large numbers.
Codex works the same on food and nutritional supplements – get rid of what is safe using thuggish raids; leave in place what kills in the thousands. Philip Rudnick wrote a well-cited report on FDA-approved drugs and produced the following chart:
Annual Deaths From:
FDA-Approved Drugs (1)…….60,000 – 140,000

Comparisons between people may be odious but comparisons between raw milk and pasteurized industrial milk can be quite eye-opening as this chart reveals.
Without a doubt, pasteurization kills off all friendly bacteria. Its purpose is to do just that. Despite FDA and dairy industry fear mongering, many people know that friendly bacteria comprise part of the human immune system, helping them to avoid disease. People seek out raw milk because it is rich in friendly bacteria.
It seems that Yale researchers have proved them wise. They discovered certain friendly bacteria that protect against Type 1 diabetes.
So, raw milk is not only safe and curative, but also protective against disease. Meanwhile, pasteurized milk is full of GMOs, pesticides, drugs, and Crohn’s bacterium, with no friendly bacteria to heal things.
William Campbell Douglass II, MD writes rather fun pieces on serious medical issues. In Drugged up on Milk, he has a field day with pasteurized milk from the industrial dairy industry:
“If there’s anything more tainted than a glass of water, it’s store-bought milk. The pasteurization process that’s supposed to make milk ‘safe’ robs it of all nutrition while doing zilch to break down all the drugs, hormones and other chemicals secretly (and illegally) given to dairy cows.”

Raw Food Raid: Armed Agents Bust Raw Milk & Cheese Sellers
Assault on independent health accelerates as retailers charged with conspiracy, ‘mislabeling cheese’
CONSOLIDATED UPDATE: Multiple sources have confirmed the fact that all three individuals arrested– James Stewart, Victoria Bloch and Sharon Palmer– are being charged with ‘conspiracy’ related to the sell of unpasteurized raw milk products.
http://cotocrew.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/swat.jpgThis reportedly includes sections of the California Penal Code Section 182a. Additional charges may also be pending, including a charge of ‘mislabeling cheese’ for Sharon Palmer, was arrested during a raid of Healthy Family Farms. As video of the raid on Rawesome Foods (also raided in 2010) demonstrates, Feds not only seized cash and raw milk supplies (much of which was also dumped out) but also mangos and other fresh, organic produce. Activists have planned a protest tomorrow outside the L.A. County Courthouse to demand the release of the raw food retailers, each held on bonds reportedly exceeding $120,000.

(NaturalNews) The raid on Rawesome Foods by a combined force of agents from the FDA, Dept of Agriculture, CDC and the LA County Sheriff’s office wasn’t the only SWAT-style armed raid that took place today. Sharon Palmer, a mom and owner of Healthy Family Farms was also arrested and taken to jail. A third woman, Victoria Bloch, the LA County liaison for the Weston A Price Foundation (www.WestonaPrice.org) , was also reportedly arrested, NaturalNews has learned.
All three are reportedly being charged with conspiracy to commit a crime. What crime? The “crime” of advocating raw milk for consumers!
As NaturalNews previously reported (http://www.naturalnews.com/033220_R…), the SWAT-style raid was conducted like a terrorist operation, where the cops immediately went after Rawesome’s cash and then began vandalizing and destroying the store’s entire inventory. This raid was an act of economic terrorism against a legitimate, ethical business selling wholesome, healthful products to a very happy group of members.

A massive public protest on the front steps of the LA courthouse is being planned for the morning of August 4th, where James Stewart has been promised a hearing before a judge.
NaturalNews is calling on its readers and supporters to join in this protest to help send a message to the law enforcement tyrants that we will not tolerate our health food stores being terrorized by criminal cops and rogue federal agencies. We will announce the time and place of the protest as soon as we are provided the details. Watch for that announcement here on NaturalNews.com or on our Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/HealthRanger
Video coverage of the event is being provided by a contributing reporter whose name we will reveal after the video reports are filed (in order to protect him from possible oppression by L.A. law enforcement thugs).

Spread the word, folks. Enough is enough! We must take a stand against this government-run campaign of terror against health food retailers. It is time to stop government-run terrorism against health food stores.
It’s time we fought back and let these criminals know we will not be treated like food slaves by a corrupt, criminally-run government that wishes to force everyone to drink DEAD MILK and DEAD CHEESE (which they know causes disease).
This is it, friends! Big Government has declared war on the innocent. The Obama administration, which has already gone out of its way to promote yet more GMOs in the food supply, is now overseeing government-sponsored terrorism against the health food movement. If you don’t take a stand against this, you might as well lay down, surrender to Big Brother, and eat your soylent green…
We are collecting funds for the legal defense of Rawesome Foods. Please donate through the Consumer Wellness Center at www.ConsumerWellness.org where 100% of the donations go directly to their legal defense.
Thank you all for your sharing of these stories and your concerns. We are fighting for our basic rights and freedoms against a police state cabal of criminals who now run our federal government and will stop at nothing to turn innocent citizens into gulag prisoners.
Breaking news: Multi-agency armed raid hits Rawesome Foods, Healthy Family Farms for selling raw milk and cheese

(NaturalNews) This is a NaturalNews exclusive breaking news report. Please credit NaturalNews.com. A multi-agency SWAT-style armed raid was conducted this morning by helmet-wearing, gun-carrying enforcement agents from the LA County Sheriff’s Office, the FDA, the Dept. of Agriculture and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control).
Rawesome Foods, a private buying club offering wholesome, natural raw milk and raw cheese products (among other wholesome foods) is founded by James Stewart, a pioneer in bringing wholesome raw foods directly to consumers through a buying club. James was followed from his private residence by law enforcement, and when he entered his store, the raid was launched.
Law enforcement demanded that all customers (members) of the store vacate the premises, then they demanded to know how much cash James had at the store. When James explained the amount of cash he had at the store — which is used to purchase product for selling there — agents demanded to know why he had such an amount of cash and where it came from.
James was handcuffed, was NEVER read his rights and was stuffed into an UNMARKED car. While agents said they would leave behind a warrant, no one has yet had any opportunity to even see if such a warrant exists or if it is a complete warrant.
Note to NaturalNews readers: This was an ILLEGAL raid being conducted mob-style by government thugs who respect no law and no rights. This is an all-out war by the government against people who try to promote healthy raw and living foods.
James is now being held at the Pacific division police department at Centinela and Culver in Los Angeles. He is being held at $123,000 bail with no possibility of using bail bonds. Law enforcement has demanded that if he comes up with the money to cover bail, he must disclose to them all the sources of that money. (This is an illegal demand!)
Massive public protests are needed to teach these criminal law enforcement agencies that they cannot illegally arrest and persecute individuals merely for buying and selling raw milk and cheese. We are organizing a public protest day in cooperation with James. Please watch NaturalNews for an announcement of that. Story is developing…
Right now, James needs help raising money with his legal defense needs. Our non-profit Consumer Wellness Center is currently serving as the collection point for donations. You may donate right now at www.ConsumerWellness.org (100% of the donations go directly to James’ legal defense needs, the Consumer Wellness Center keeps nothing).
See this video of James Stewart talking about his farm:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foKg…
Here’s background on Healthy Family Farms which was also targeted in the raid:
Healthy Family Farms in Santa Paula, California:
“Healthy Family Farms is a sustainable, pasture-based farming operation. We raise all our livestock on pasture. We raise all of our animals from birth. We do not feed any of our animals soy, choosing instead to feed animals as they are designed to be fed. This results in healthy, sturdy animals needing no hormones, antibiotics, or other artificial “enhancements.” We harvest our animals humanely by hand before they are delivered to the farmers markets. We never freeze our products. In addition to farmer’s markets sales, we have an active CSA, which offers discounts to our valued members.”

Text For Economic Collapse A Mathematical Certainty
By Jim Kirwan
8-6-11
From New America Productions 2011
"There is no greater disaster that to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.
The Dollar Collapse will be the single largest event in human history. This will be the first event that will touch every single living person in the world. All human activity is controlled by money. Our wealth, our work, our food, our government even our relationships are affected by money.
No money in human history has had as much reach, in both breadth and depth as the dollar. It is the defacto world currency. All other currency collapses will pale in comparison to this "big one." All other currency crises have been regional and there have always been other currencies for people to grasp onto. This collapse will be global and it will bring down not only the dollar but all other fiat currencies as they are fundamentally; no different.
The collapse of currencies will lead to the collapse of all paper assets. The repercussions to this will have incredible results worldwide. The dollar is the world's currency. It supports the global economy in setting foreign trade; most importantly the petro-dollar trade. This fuels our corporate vampires and acquires and harvests' the wealth of the world.
The corporate powers suppress real assets like natural resources and labor to provide themselves with massive profits. The fascist statists, collectivist's model provides the money to the economy to fun an ever-increasing federal government. That government then grows larger and larger, enriching its minions, with jobs to control their fellow citizens. Finally to come full circle; the government then controls other nations through the military-industrial complex.
This cycle will be cut when the mathematical and inevitable collapse of the dollar occurs. In order for our debt-based money to function we must increase the DEBT every year in excess of the debt and interest accrued the year before, or we will enter a deflationary death spiral. When Debt is created, money is created. When the debt is paid-off money is destroyed. There is never enough to pay off the debt because there would be not one dollar in existence,
We are at a point where we either default on the debt, willingly or unwillingly or create more money or debt: To keep the cycle moving. The problem is if you understand anything about compounding interest is that we are reaching the hockey-stick-moment (on the graph that is the moment when everything goes vertical); where the more debt that is incurred the more debt that is incurred the less effective it is: And this leads us to hyper-inflation. There are only two actors needed for this hyper-inflation: The lender of last resort, or the FED, and the spender of last resort the government. These two can and will blow up the system.
I believe they will wait until the next crises and the whiff of deflationary depression before they fire up the printing presses. That crisis is coming very soon, at the end of the summer or fall. The money and emergency measures are worn-out. The fact that none of the underlying problems that caused the 2008 crises have been resolved: The only thing that has happened is that instead of corporate problems we now have national problems.
In this movie Greece will play the role of Leman Brothers and the United States will play the role of AIG. The problem is there is no where (left) to kick the can down the road: And there is no world-government to absorb the DEBT- yet. So this leads me to the top five places NOT to be when the dollar collapses.
Number one, Israel. This Anglo-American beachhead in the Middle-East was first conceived by the most powerful family in the world; the Rothschilds in 1917. The Balfour Declaration said that there will be a Zionist Israel , years before WWII, and the eventual establishment of Israel. Israel has not been a very good neighbor to the Muslim nations: And has always had the world's two biggest bullies on the block at its back. When the dollar collapses the United States will have much too much on its plate, both domestically and internationally to worry about such a non-strategic piece of land. This will leave Israel very weak at a time when tensions will be high. This very thin strip of desert land will not be able to withstand the economic realities of needing to import its food and fuel or the political reality of being surrounded by Muslims.
Number two, Southern California, the land of fruits and nuts turns into Battlefield Los Angeles . Twenty-million people packed into an area that has no water and thus food is not good to say the least. Throw on top of the huge wealth disparities, and the proximity to a narco-state and this does not bode well. We have seen riots from Rodney King. What will happen when the dollar is destroyed and food and fuel stop coming into this area? People will get desperate and do crazy things especially when a huge proportion of its citizens are on anti-depressants. If food and fuel cannot get in, what about Prozac? At a time when people's worlds are falling apart they lack the ability to deal with this new paradigm. If people come off these drugs too fast they will suffer psychotic breaks and you will thousands of shootings or suicides.
Number three, England the land of the former Big Brother and the Empire of the worldwide slave and drug trade; will suffer heavily.
The "Stiff upper lip" that the British Elite ingrained in to the sheeple will not work anymore, as the British population explodes. The humans character will sacrifice for a foreign enemy, but not if the enemy has always been the elite. The Anglo-American Empire may pull off another false flag to distract its population but I feel this collapse will happen before they pull it off. This will make all eyes point at the British Elite as being solely responsible for this catastrophe. We have seen massive riots for soccer-matches with Hooligans. What will happen when this island with very little food and fuel gets cut off?
Number 4, New York City ; another large urban area living too high on the dollar-hog. There is little doubt that all of the wealth in New York City , New Jersey , and Connecticut is derived off of Wall Street Wealth. The savings and investments of the whole nation and much of the world flows through this financial capital. As the world wakes up to the massive financial fraud; this will lead to the destruction of capital like we have never seen before (the picture is of NYC in ruins just as Berlin looked after the West bombed it into Oblivion at the end of WWII).This will have tremendous effects upon the regional economy, as people driving in Mercedes suddenly wonder where their next meal is coming from.
Number five, Washington D.C. The political collapse of the Federal Government will reek havoc on the hugely inflated local economy as more and more states find it necessary to assert their natural control the federal government will suddenly lose power and importance, as the whole world suffers from a global Hurricane Katrina (the city in flames).
The money that they create and spend will become worthless and government minion's pensions will evaporate. Millions that once relied upon the ability to force others to send their money to them, will learn that the real power has always been at the most local level. Massive decentralization will be the answer to 'Globalization Gone Mad. ' Local families and communities will forego spending money and power out of their communities as they will care about their next meal and keeping warm. As Ayn Rand once said: "You can ignore reality, but you cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality."
To sum those areas that have lived highest on the hog on the dollar-paradigm will most-likely be the worst places to live, when the dollar collapses. Many of you will see this video with passing interest; but rest
assured this dollar collapse is coming!
It is a mathematical inevitability. We will not be as fortunate to muddle through this collapse, like we did in 2008, when it was a corporate problem." This time around it is a national and a global problem. The global Ponzi-Scheme has run out of gas: As the demographics decline; as cheap abundant oil declines, as hegemonic power declines: This comes at a time when we reach the exponential or collapse-phase of our money.
The irresistible force paradox says; "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object: We are about to find out, when infinite money hits a very-finite world!"

Emergency Diaper Insurance
By Angela, on August 1st, 2011
For long term diapering in an emergency situation, cloth diapers are the way to go. They are reusable, washable, and you don’t need to loot your local store when a disaster hits because you’re worried about running out of diapers. http://foodstorageandsurvival.com/wp...iaper_pink.jpgAnd cloth diapers aren’t what they used to be. There are some really nice designs out by makers like bumGeniushttp://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&...reative=399373 and Charlie Bananahttp://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&...reative=399369. They don’t use pins, “rubber pants”, etc. and are available in specific sizes (small, medium, large–check each manufacturers website for sizing charts) or “one size” that adjusts from newborn to toddler size with one diaper. Cloth diapers have come a long way since my baby sisters were using them.
However great the merits of cloth diapering, cloth diapering every day isn’t for everyone. Some of us really don’t mind using disposable diapers. In fact, a lot of people use disposable diapers and aren’t ready or willing to make the switch to cloth diapers. That’s okay. You can still be prepared for an emergency if you are using disposable diapers.
The first thing to do is to stock up on diapers. Have a few packs around in the size your baby is wearing plus some in the next size up. If your baby grows out of size 2′s before you use all the 2′s in your stash, just return them to the store you bought them from and exchange them for 3′s or 4′s or whatever. Most stores don’t have a problem doing a straight across exchange even if you’ve had the diapers for 3 or 4 months at your house.
For a little more emergency diaper insurance, you can buy some cloth diapers. Yes, they’re expensive, especially if you’re not planning on using them except in an emergency. However, whether you use them or not, when your baby is past diaper age you can always sell them on craigslist or ebay or some other classified ad type system and recoup most of your cost. In fact, you can buy them there in the first place and probably save a bit on your up front cost. So, say you purchase a 6 pack of diapers for around $100.00. In two years (or three+ years) your little guy is potty trained and no longer needing diapers and what do you know? There never was an emergency where you needed to use the diapers in those two years. So list them as new on your classifieds of choice, sell them for $90.00 (they are two years old even if they haven’t been used, plus this will make sure they sell quickly), subtract your fees for selling (if any) and for around $10-$15 you had emergency diaper insurance for those two years your little one was in diapers. If you ended up using them, you can still get a good price for them when you’re done using them if they’ve been kept clean and in good repair. Even if you end up keeping them (maybe you’ll have another kid sometime or want to have them available for a friend/neighbor/grandkids), $100 really isn’t all that much for diaper insurance.
If you are planning on using cloth diapers for emergencies, do be sure you have a good way of washing them. You’ll need to be washing often, especially if you aren’t purchasing very many of them for your emergency stash.
Give it some thought. You for sure don’t want to be caught without a way to diaper your baby in an emergency or long term survival situation. That would really stink.
