Essential oils from various plants are less fixed and more volatile, which means they tend to evaporate easily. In contrast, so-called "fixed oils" like olive and other cooking oils do not evaporate even in high temperatures. As such, essential oils are popular in aromatherapy.
While there are many kinds of essential oils, some of them should be included in your herbal medicine cabinet and prepping stockpile, such as lavender and peppermint essential oils. (h/t to BackwoodsHome.com)
Eucalyptus essential oil
Eucalyptus essential oil, which has a "cooling" effect on the skin, is a natural insect repellent. Eucalyptus essential oil has a crisp and distinctive smell.
When used in aromatherapy, it can help you clear your mind and improve your focus. Eucalyptus essential oil can also be used in massages, steam inhalation and as a bath additive.
Lavender essential oil
Lavender essential oil can be used for skin care and to support natural healing, especially for rashes, scrapes and bug bites. It has a calming effect and can be used in aromatherapy to relieve insomnia and stress. (Related: Prepper first aid: 10 Must-haves for your natural medicine first aid kit.)
Peppermint essential oil
Peppermint essential oil can be used topically or for aromatherapy to support your overall health and well-being. You can also use it to keep your breath fresh or to freshen your home naturally.
Where to get lab-verified essential oils for your stockpile
The Health Ranger Store is committed to helping you prepare for any emergency. That’s why we’re proud to introduce different essential oils for your prepping needs.
Besides its aromatherapy application, Health Ranger Select Organic Eucalyptus Essential Oil is also an all-natural way to provide a fresh scent to your home or car. It has also been used for centuries to maintain fresh breath. Dilute it in water and rinse your mouth for a pleasant, fresh experience.
Health Ranger's Organic Lavender Essential Oil is carefully extracted from the flowers of Lavandula angustifolia through steam distillation. It has a distinct floral scent, marked by sweet herbal nuances and rich green accents that will transport your mind to a fragrant lavender field.
Freshen your home, linens and clothes by placing a few drops of purified lavender essential oil in your diffuser, wardrobe or on your mattress. You can also use lavender essential oil to make DIY soaps, lotions, perfumes, bath salt soaks, massage oils and insect repellents.
To relieve stress and keep you more grounded and focused, add fragrant lavender essential oil to your bath water and enjoy a luxurious lavender bubble bath.
Unlike store-bought fresheners, Health Ranger's Organic Peppermint Essential Oil contains no toxic chemicals. Health Ranger's Organic Peppermint Essential Oil is also certified organic and contains no additives or synthetic chemicals. It is thoroughly lab-tested for glyphosate, heavy metals and microbiology.

EMP preparedness: How to protect your electronics

Both non-preppers and preppers often rely on various electronic devices. But there is a potential threat that could render all devices useless in an instant: an electromagnetic pulse (EMP).
Before SHTF, learn how to EMP-proof electronics and start a prepping stockpile for your family.
Below are some tips on how you can protect electronics from an EMP. (h/t to AlphaSurvivalist.net)
What is an electromagnetic pulse?
An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is "a burst of electromagnetic radiation that can potentially damage and destroy electronic devices."
EMPs can be caused by several sources, such as a nuclear explosion, a geomagnetic storm or a solar flare.
EMPs are created when a sudden and intense burst of energy is released. This energy then triggers a rapid change in the electromagnetic field. (Related: EMP-proofing MYTHS preppers need to know about.)
What happens to electronic devices after an EMP event?
EMP events can destroy electronic devices. The high voltage surge induced by the electromagnetic field can make electronic devices malfunction or even shut down.
This can then cause issues like data loss or communication breakdowns.
DIY EMP proofing techniques
Protect devices against EMPs by using materials that can absorb or deflect the magnetic fields created by the radiation. Conductive materials like aluminum foil, mesh and steel are effective at absorbing and deflecting magnetic fields.
Here are some DIY techniques to EMP-proof electronics:
Build a Faraday cage
A Faraday cage is a container made of conductive material that can protect big or small electronics from an EMP.
Build a Faraday cage using common household items such as aluminum foil, a metal box or tin foil. Wrap your devices in foil and place them inside the metal box.
Make sure the box is tightly sealed to prevent any gaps where an EMP could penetrate.
Use common household items
If you don’t have a metal box or tin foil, you can use other household items to protect your electronics from an EMP.
Try using a garbage can lined with cardboard and aluminum foil. Place the gadgets inside the can and seal the lid tightly.
Alternatively, you can use your oven as a makeshift Faraday cage. Keep in mind that not all ovens are effective at blocking EMPs, so do your research and test the device before relying on it for protection.
Commercial EMP products
There are also some commercial solutions that you can try, such as EMP shielding products. These items are meant to protect electronics from the harmful effects of an EMP.
Your options include surge protectors, Faraday bags or EMP-proof enclosures.
Surge protectors are affordable and can help protect electronics from power surges caused by an EMP. They divert excess voltage away from devices to prevent damage from power spikes.
Faraday bags are made from conductive materials that block electromagnetic radiation. Place your devices inside the bag to protect them from the effects of an EMP.
Faraday boxes or EMP-proof enclosures are some of the best options available. These enclosures are meant to completely block all electromagnetic radiation and provide the ultimate protection for electronics.
Where to get lab-verified food supplies for your stockpile
The Health Ranger Store is committed to helping you prepare for any man-made or natural emergency, such as an EMP attack. We're proud to introduce organic food products for your prepping needs.
A great alternative to regular sugar, Health Ranger Select Organic Maple Sugar Powder is a nutritious and delicious sweetener made from organic maple syrup. It is non-GMO, certified Kosher and organic.
