Members of the Republican National Committee voted Thursday to split Maine’s delegation to the national convention into two separate groups, awarding roughly half of the state’s 20 contested delegates to Mitt Romney and half to Ron Paul, a Maine party official said.
Charlie Webster, chairman of the Maine Republican Party, said the RNC Committee on Contests had hoped that Maine’s contingent of 20 Paul delegates would agree to the split.
Webster said the Contests Committee concluded "there were so many mistakes made by the party, by the credentialing committee and by the chairman of the convention ... that it wasn't a legitimate election."

The Commission on Presidential Debates is a private corporation headed by the former chairmen of the Republican and Democratic parties. The CPD is a duopoly which allows the major party candidates to draft secret agreements about debate arrangements including moderators, debate format and even participants. The result is a travesty riddled with sterile, non-contentious arguments which consistently exclude alternative voices that Americans want to hear.

Romney lawyers took away Ron Paul's win in Maine making Paul ineligible
Submitted by Angel C on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 19:44Ron Paul 2012
Mitt Romney's campaign and allies have effectively quelled the Ron Paul revolution at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. On Thursday, the 168-member Republican National Committee approved a report that invalidated Ron Paul's claim to a plurality of delegates in Maine. The RNC voted to split the at-large delegation in half. In order to be eligible for nomination for president, a candidate needs to have a plurality of delegates in five states. Ron Paul had five, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Maine. Without Maine, he now has four.
The RNC attempted to raise the number of states a plurality was needed in to 10 on Wednesday, but that amendment was denied. The attempted raise to 10 states angered many who claimed that the only reason the RNC would try this would be to block Ron Paul from possibly stealing the nomination at the convention. Despite that amendment being blocked, the RNC and Mitt Romney seem to have accomplished what they wanted.

"Mark Willis, a Maine delegate supporting Paul, and Maine’s elected GOP national committeeman, is disappointed by the news. (Currently, GOP officials are only accepting 10 delegates as a "compromise.") And even though the Republican National Committee says it will make the choices for them if the Paul supporters cannot agree, Willis says the fight is far from over."
UPDATE: The Republican Party of Iowa will donate guest passes to the Maine Delegates who are shut out.
Unfortunately, they will not be able to vote which gives Paul supporters good reason to continue this fight. If you are a wronged delegate from Maine, contact Steve Bierfeldt via Facebook.

"Paul campaign manager John Tate and campaign chairman Jesse Benton negotiated with Romney confidantes Ben Ginsberg and Ron Kaufman about how to handle the contested delegations."
Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades and political director Rich Beeson stayed in touch with their Paul counterparts.
The Republican National Committee hired Paul campaign press secretary Gary Howard in June as “special projects director.” He’s worked the halls this week helping his new bosses.
Policy staffers felt out the Paul campaign to get a sense of their priorities and where they might overlap with the former Massachusetts governor’s public positions.
More than a week before the group convened here, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell — a loyal Romney surrogate tapped to lead the platform committee — called Rand Paul to get his input on a plank requiring an audit of the Federal Reserve. North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven, who co-chaired the platform meeting, also reached out to the younger Paul.
During a dinner on Sunday night, platform co-chair Marsha Blackburn (a Tennessee congresswoman) talked cordially with two Paul supporters. Mike Wallace, a Paul representative from Maine, said he had a discussion with Blackburn about not being offended by what Paul supporters want to accomplish.
“These people are being genuine and they want to be accepted,” he recalled saying. “It’s hard to nurture trust when there are a lot of Type A people who feel their identity is being threatened.”

UPDATED: LibertyUSA PAC finds Hard Evidence of Election Rigging in Lake County, IL: the Cheating IS Inside the Voting Machines
Submitted by Dr.K.Research on Wed, 08/22/2012 - 19:15

We did far better in the election than is recognized. So did, apparently, Gingrich and Santorum. Tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of Paul votes, as well as votes for these other two candidates, were purged through vote rigging in the the Romney-favoring machines. This occurred largely at the precinct level. In other words, the machines were maliciously programmed to cheat all candidates in favor of Romney.
Paul was merely one of the victims.
There is great proof of this in Illinois in a wide range of counties, including Kane, Cook, DuPage, and Lake.
The anomaly is found in the delegate counts, which reflects theft of votes from Paul, Santorum, and Gingrich but none from Romney. (Corrected) In an analysis of 158 precincts there was only ONE delegate vote count where there were a greater amount of delegate than candidate votes for Mitt Romney, while for Ron Paul there were 91 incidents. For Gingrich there were a whopping 105 incidents and for Santorum 34. This totals 230 incidents for Romney's opposition candidates, while his are "1." That is impossible.
The vote anomalies are 166, 210, and 68 respectively, because, again, always, the amount of total delegate votes compared to candidate votes is lower.
UPDATE: This means that at a minimum in these precincts there were the same number of votes stolen for each of the respective candidates.
Moreover, the fact that this never occurred with Romney in this sample further proves the rigging.
It is greater than this, though. This is because as a rule there are nearly always more candidate votes than delegate votes, as shown by the unrigged Romney sample.
There may also be some anomalies in the Romney counts, but they are insignificant compared to those for the other candidates. Furthermore, the ballot is simple; there could be little or no accounting for this based on voter confusion. In one case no votes were shown in a precinct for Paul yet one of his delegates got, incredibly, two votes.
The data is simple. It is a spreadsheet of the number of votes for each candidate compared to the votes listed for delegates. It will be seen that the delegate votes are often greater for a given candidate, EXCEPT for Romney. For a thorough analysis of Lake County, Illinois, see: (Tonight update: link is NOT working; will be up tomorrow morning, with more data).
http://www.libertyusapac.org/wordpresspac/2012/08/23/updated...
Please donate generously to the PAC. It is going for a good cause and funds are greatly needed. All funds available thus far have been dispersed to the delegates. Election fraud costs have been subsidized privately by the PAC owner and one other donor. For now, donate to the delegate button, which funds both the delegate needs and the fight against election rigging.
This is an exceedingly crucial finding. More hands are needed on deck. All counties in Illinois must be analyzed. The same spreadsheet can be used for all. Furthermore, there is a need to do the same in all states, where delegates were voted in the primary such as Rhode Island and PA. Please volunteer on the volunteer button, www.libertyusapac.org

Steve, please call me at your earliest convenience. I have some breaking information regarding an Army combat veteran (and Christian) in Ohio who was just raided this evening for the same reasons Brandon Raub was arrested. There were no criminal charges, no suspicions of criminal activity charge, and he was notarrested but all of his firearms were confiscated and he has been given a notice to appear before a judge. He is a Purple Heart recipient, no criminal background, no issues with prior VA psych evals. I just got off the phone with him and would like to pass along all of the information (and there is quite a bit) so others can be made aware of what is happening.
At 18:40 EST on 22/Aug/2012, I received a call from a very close friend of mine in west central Ohio, claiming he had just had all firearms confiscated. At first I thought he was joking, as we often do, so I made some sarcastic remarks, but he continued explaining what he had gone through. I stopped him and asked if he was being serious or just pulling my leg. He assured me he was being serious. I’ll provide you with the details as best I can- he conveyed all of this information to me during our second phone conversation after I had returned home at approximately 20:30 EST.

Justin Amash to Endorse Mitt Romney Post GOP Convention
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iPIXm-QoNM&feature=player_embedded
In a "Reality Report" released today by the former Chairman of Revolution PAC, Gary Franchi claims that, according to top a level officer of the Ron Paul Campaign, Rep. Justin Amash will endorse Mitt Romney following the GOP Convention in Tampa.
Franchi cites emails received by Amash constituents in Michigan delivered by Ron Paul's Michigan Campaign Chairman Adam de Angeli.
In the report Franchi questions if this could hurt Amash alleging that if so Rep. Amash would be "following the current trend of Liberty Candidates joining the Go-Along Get-Along Gang, whose founding member is none-other-than Rand Paul."
Franchi sees the potential endorsement as a, "departure from adhering to the longstanding no-compromise positions of the leading liberty voice, Congressman Ron Paul."
Pulling the strings of the "current trend" Franchi alleges that, the endorsements are, "clearly spawned from the leadership within the ranks of Ron Paul's inner circle, namely John Tate and Jesse Benton."
In the same report Franchi claims that Ron Paul Campaign Chair Jesse Benton and Manager John Tate collectively, "worked to undermine the efforts of the Revolution Super PAC."
Franchi agrees that Rep. Amash has the free will to endorse who he pleases, but would like to remind the Congressman that he runs the risk of alienating his dedicated base of liberty supporters while only gaining a few new GOP friends.
When asked about the on-line report Franchi quoted St. Mark, "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?"

GOP establishment tries to disqualify Ron Paul supporters from Republican Convention
The Republican National Convention will be underway in mere days, but the underdog in the race for the GOP’s nod, Congressman Ron Paul, is still vying for the party’s nomination — whether the establishment likes it or not.
Ever since Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) threw his hat in the ring regarding the Republican Party nomination for the presidency, the right-wing establishment has gone to great lengths to keep the libertarian lawmaker from making a splash significant enough that he could steal votes from presumptive nominee Mitt Romney. Now with the GOP only days away from formally electing a candidate at next week’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, all votes are on Romney as being the guy all but guaranteed to receive the party’s nomination.
Rep. Paul hasn’t resigned his bid, however, even despite continuing efforts from his fellow Republicans to remove him from the race.

From the "chairman."
“I hope that Ron Paul supporters and delegates saw a Republican National Committee that was fair, open and honest,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus told POLITICO.
Why don't we ask the delegates and alternates from THESE states about that, Mr. Chairman? Maybe they would tell a different story.
Alaska Washington Oregon Arizona Nevada Oklahoma Missouri Arkansas Maine Massachusetts Georgia Colorado...et al
Or why don't we ask the primary and caucus voters who were cheated out in Paul strongholds with vote-flipping algorithms, like Austin Texas and Richmond Virginia?
Or why don't we ask the people who had bones broken, were arrested for nothing, or locked out of the process?
They would be able to paint quite a different picture to this sort of naziesque propaganda that the chairman so paints as the official story.
The chairman goes on to say:
“I think you’re seeing the beginning of a very peaceful conclusion to this and everyone being on the same page to elect Mitt Romney.”
NO. Mr. Chairman. We are NOT on the same page.
Not even in the same book.
Reagan Bush Bush Dole Bush Bush McCain that is this author's voting record, and the next name for me simply will NOT be Romney.
I could never, ever, EVER vote for a candidate that supports indefinite detention and who is silent about the continued quagmire of the Afghan War.
No way. No how.
Dr. Paul had the silent majority in this country and, had his campaign played their cards right, we would have won this.

I suggest everyone post this (or some other) video to Facebook which describes the efforts by the RNC to control the outcome of the vote at the convention:
Reality Check: RNC Pulling Out All Stops To Keep Ron Paul's Name Out Of Nomination - YouTube
Here is how I phrased the message with it to try and get Romney supporters to view it:
"Whether you like Romney or not, anyone can see these actions are wrong."
This might be especially effective if you and your friends live in Maine.
The question is... if a Romney supporter sees that Romney does not care much for the credo of "do what's right", will they adjust their view about him even slightly?
If the delegates from other states have these wrongs put in their faces and public opinion shifts against the RNC/Romney, might Ron Paul end up with more delegates from the pool of former opponent delegates?
Can we, through social media, shine a light big and bright enough on these obvious wrongs that it impacts the events in Tampa?

The RNC credentials committee has just ruled against seating the entire delegation from Maine. Cody Morgan sent us this message.
Thank you Gov. LePage for standing with me and the rest of the Maine GOP delegation. Being in Tampa now, the news hurts being $3,500 invested in the process, but as the appeals process continues, we hope that the Republican party of this great nation will come to realize the injustice aimed towards us, and will remedy the situation by allowing the duly elected delegation of Maine to be fully seated at the 2012 RNC. Once again, Gov. LePage, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Very Respectfully,

P.S. The good news: Gov. Paul LePage (keeping his word) will not be attending the Republican National Convention due to the last vote taken at the Credentials Committee.

When Republicans Become Democrats
Submitted by Steve Dickson on Fri, 08/24/2012 - 16:08

There are many different ways to define the differences between a republic and a democracy, but at the core is this:
A Republic is ruled by the Law, a Democracy is ruled by the Majority.
That may seem a simple explanation, but it is a core issue. Benjamin Franklin is frequently attributed to this quote and he may not have said it, but I like it:
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
And this brings us to the Republican Party, the Committee on Contests, and the states of Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Oregon. Four of these states are under challenge and are represented by the Ron Paul campaign on one side and the GOP/Team Romney on the other. One is an orphan, and that is Oklahoma. It is represented by non-attorney (that would be "regular people") representatives, and all of their fillings were assembled by non-attorneys (although they were sent to Herb Titus and William Olson of www.lawandfreedom.com for review).
In all cases, all decisions by the Committee on Contests and the RNC went in favor of the Team Romney side, and against the Ron Paul side (and the grassroots activists from Oklahoma). Today, the Credentials Committee of the Republican National Convention - which is a different group than the Republican National Committee - is hearing a final appeal to the Rules. Rules are the Laws an organization is governed by.
If one person has the Rules (or the Law) on their side in a Republic, they should win. All members of the political process - especially Delegates to Conventions - have a duty as citizens, and a duty to those they represent, to stand for the Law (and the Rules).
What do you call a Republican who violates the Rules in favor of the majority?
A democrat.
UPDATE - The State of Maine just had their legally, lawfully elected Delegates and Alternates replaced by the Republican National Committee and the Credentials Committee of the Republican National Convention. So much for the Right of States to select their representation.

Through the continued efforts of the GOP to stymie Ron Paul and his supporters via any means necessary, legal or not, they have assured that no Ron Paul supporter will vote for their preemptively anointed candidate come election time.
Throughout Dr. Paul’s campaign, the GOP has played dirty. Instances of blocking Ron Paul supporters from voting, intimidation of RP supporters, violence and outright vote fraud have all come to light. The terrified fatcats of the GOP will do everything and anything in their power to stop Ron Paul from gaining any fair shot at the Presidency. And now even a chance to speak his mind at the RNC, which he should be assured a rightful spot at due to his amassed delegates, has been stripped away and replaced with an insulting “tribute” from the Romney camp.

And now even a chance to speak his mind at the RNC, which he should be assured a rightful spot at due to his amassed delegates, has been stripped away and replaced with an insulting “tribute” from the Romney camp.
Ron Paul’s delegate total according to the Paul campaign is 373, however some of those delegates are bound to vote for Romney by state rules. To gain a speaking position at the RNC, a candidate is required to have won or have a plurality in 5 or more states. The RNC, in an unprecedented move to silence Paul, attempted to raise the requirement to 10, however was slapped down by those with consciences and respect for the process. That leaves Paul with a tally of 3 states that the GOP & Mitt Romney’s Lawyers haven’t been able to weasel him out of: Nevada, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Maine and Louisiana are also being split, which would give Dr. Paul the required 5 states that he would need to speak. However, those split state compromises were reached in an effort to quiet the Paul camp and avoid protests and competing conventions during the RNC. The requirement for the GOP to back off it’s false trial and fabricated violations of the results in the Louisiana and Maine caucuses is that Ron Paul not speak at the National Convention. He will be holding a rally beforehand, however.
Of course, there is also news today that even though a Maine compromise was reached, the GOP continues to show its true colors, and has since sliced the delegate count from Maine supporting Ron Paul in half, kicking out 10 of 20 delegates. Why? Because of ridiculous accusations that those delegates somehow violated party rules.
In response to the rightful animosity from Ron Paul supporters, and to try too woo some support, Mitt Romney announced that he would be airing a “tribute” video, honoring Paul’s ideals and the concepts of Libertarianism. He’ll also highlight some of the (few) similarities between his campaign and Paul’s – like Romney’s new-found support to Audit the Fed.
If Romney thinks this gesture will mean anything to Paul supporters, his understanding of the liberty movement is equal to his misguided views on foreign policy. This video is an insult. If someone steals my dinner and then gives me back a bite, it does nothing but remind me of what was taken from me, and make me that much hungrier to get that meal back. After the games, the lies, the cheating and legal shenanigans that the GOP and Romney have pulled, they very well may have lost any and all Ron Paul supporters forever, past Mitt Romney and well into the future. I have debated voting for Romney as a lesser-evil to Obama, but I can’t in good conscience vote for any GOP candidate now and I feel that very few Ron Paul supporters will either.
The GOP is terrified of change and is willing to spite the people who would make up the future and be the savior of their party. It reminds me of a ship full of rich but ancient merchants, shooting at perceived rats in the hold to stop them from eating their grain. However, the bullets rarely succeed in doing anything but punching holes in the hull, hastening the inevitable sinking of a groaning old ship.

Why a Ron Paul-style presidential campaign may be the last of its kind

Republican officials have voted to change the way the party will nominate its presidential candidates in future elections in an effort to ensure that delegates to the national convention are bound by the outcome of states’ primaries and caucuses.
It’s more than a technicality. The change — which was passed by the Republican National Convention Committee but still needs to be approved at the convention — would make it nearly impossible in the future for rebellious Republican presidential candidates like Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) to rack up substantial delegate support in states, when they do not win the states’ nominating contests.

Ron Paul Rally next door to Oklahoma Delegation Hotel

Political Conventions are a flurry of different activities.
Although business is conducted that is very serious, there are a number of events to attend for the Delegates, Alternates, and their guests. This year's GOP National Convention is no different. The big show starts off with "The Welcome Event" at Tropicana Field, billed as the "largest welcome event in the history of the Convention". This is where it gets interesting.
To attend the Republican National Committee (RNC) welcome event, you must be "credentialed and invited". More than 20,000 guests will be at this event, which starts at 6 p.m. There is a hitch, however, with security. It seems that after lengthy negotiations plans have fallen through to reasonably accommodate those who attend the Ron Paul "We are the Future" rally. This is the only Rally that Ron Paul is scheduled to speak at - he has not been invited to speak to the Convention.
In a Sunday evening conference call, the Ron Paul campaign disclosed the reason for the change of plans. It seems the Secret Service decided a full search of all persons and buses from the Ron Paul Rally to Tropicana Field would now be required. Since this would take several hours, and the Rally has numerous speakers scheduled with Dr. Paul scheduled for one hour himself, there is no logistical way to attend both events. Dr. Paul will be speaking from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., leaving only one hour to board buses, go to the other stadium, and find seating before the other program begins. This will be more difficult that normal beyond the added security, since the Sun Dome is sold out - so there will be 10,000 people trying to leave at once.
As the saying goes, plans are made to be broken. Working fast on their feet, the Paul Campaign has arranged an alternate venue for an after party: Whiskey Joe's, at 7720 West Courtney Campbell Causeway. This venue, which can hold a large beach party, will also host a private dinner and photo opportunity for Delegates and Alternates with Dr. Paul. Guests are suggested to enjoy the tiki bar on the beach, until the reception is over. At 8 p.m., the entertainment starts with Jimmie Vaughn, Aimee Allen, Jordan Page, and John Popper of the Blues Travelers with Ron Noyes. Oklahoma Delegation members have already had the opportunity to see Jordan Page, at the pre-state-convention Liberty Pep Rally.
To close the night will be a short walk for those in the Oklahoma Delegation - the hotel is right next door, the Best Western Bay Harbour Hotel, at 7700 West Courtney Campbell Causeway. We hope everyone joins us for the fun.

From Joel Skousen's World Affair's Brief Aug. 22nd, quoting Justin Raimondo @Antiwar.com (Joel's commentary in brackets):
"[Even though, it might have been a symbolic gesture, the delegates behind Ron Paul were intending to at least get Rep. Paul nominated at the convention. It would give a great boost to the grand liberty movement Dr. Paul has built for the last 20 years and the rebellion against establishment control of the GOP. They only needed delegate majorities from 5 states to nominate the good doctor and to keep Romney from going uncontested before the convention. But alas, the illegal maneuvers of the RNC have robbed the movement of their last show before the cameras, and contrary to assurances by an “insider” within the RNC, Ron Paul will get no speaking slot.]"
“The Republican party Establishment is eager to crush any public expressions of dissent — both inside and outside the convention hall. Ron Paul’s supporters in the GOP learned that the hard way, as the Romneyites used their control of the party bureaucracy at the state and national levels [actually it wasn’t Romneyites, but the old guard elite inside the GOP that have always controlled things at the top] to retroactively change the rules in order to unseat duly elected Paul delegates."
“In Maine, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Oregon, Oklahoma, and elsewhere, the party bosses have disenfranchised Paul voters — closing down party caucuses, rejecting as delegates anyone under 50, and calling the cops when all else failed.
And while Ryder’s rule change failed [changing the number of states to nominate a person from 5 to 10]— thanks to RNC’er Morton Blackwell — the Romney people did sneak in an amendment that would require delegates to state in writing who they intend to vote for on the convention floor at least one hour before the vote [and the vote is being moved up to Monday because of the coming storm that might force the cancellation of the convention]"
"[Hopefully, this will end the movement’s false hope that you can take over or reform the Republican party.
Even if we did, the media and key politicians would suddenly claim the Republican Party was “captured by extremists” and move to form a new party which they would instantly grant majority status. That’s what they did in Israel when they formed Kadima.]"
"[And even if it were possible to finally expose the conspiracy which controls both parties, they would reform and create new parties with new names and fresh faces, but controlled by the same people. That’s what they did in Italy in 1994 when all the major parties were exposed for corruption.
Fighting secret combinations of power in government is extremely difficult once they have gained control of a majority in Congress, the courts, and the media, not to mention the secret organs of enforcement in the police state.]"

From my friend in Tampa:
"It now requires a majority of eight states to place a name in nomination.
It is now more critical than ever that we persevere in TX. WE are likely the only state with the size and will to be in a position to push back the totalitarian centralization of the GOP happening here today."
If ratified by the convention body, this will be effective for this 2012 convention.

The RNC can shove their so-called compromises where the sun don't shine. Whatever slight hesitation I might have had before in not voting for Romney is totally gone now! Those dirty damned bastards make me want to vomit. I don't care if it was even obummer who was railroaded like they have Ron Paul. It is just sickening.

BuzzFeed - TAMPA — The Republican National Convention Rules Committee voted 63-38 to approve a new rule allowing granting the Republican National Committee — and Mitt Romney — sweeping new powers to amend the governing document of the GOP.
The move came at the encouragement of Mitt Romney supporters on the committee, including Romney's top lawyer Ben Ginsberg, who stressed that it would grant "flexibility" to Romney and the committee to adapt to changing political environments. The rule allows the RNC to amend the party's rules without a vote by the full Republican National Convention. And it offers the Republican Establishment a new tool to keep at by Tea Party initiatives that threaten to embarrass or contradict party leadership and stray from a planned message.

TAMPA — The Republican National Convention Rules Committee voted 63-38 to approve a new rule allowing granting the Republican National Committee — and Mitt Romney — sweeping new powers to amend the governing document of the GOP.
Romney, as his party's nominee, exerts significant influence over the RNC, which is made up of elected party officials from all 50 states, while the larger Convention Rules Committee is larger and has a more grassroots membership.
"This is necessary for the world in which we find ourselves in," Ginsberg told the committee, adding that it is "important for the political survival of the party in the electoral context," for the committee to be able to change the rules as it sees fit in the intervening four years between conventions.
Virginia delegate and RNC member Morton Blackwell strenuously objected to the proposed rule change, calling it "the most awful proposed amendments I’ve seen presented to this committee.”
"This is dangerous, it amounts to a power grab," he said. "We are abandoning the historic process by which are rules are adopted."
The Romney allies waited until Friday to propose the amendment, choosing to avoid giving the opposition time to organize by proposing it at the preliminary Rules meeting on Wednesday or during more than three years of RNC Rules Committee discussions.
South Carolina delegate Drew McKissick, who objected to the rule change, echoed Blackwell's charge, warning that nearly any rule could now be amended by 3/4 of the Republican National Committee.
"It’s definitely a power grab by the campaign, the committee," he said. "It’s bad juju. Once you let the genie out of the bottle they can do anything."

As the Republican convention-goers gather in Tampa, Florida, the Republican party Establishment is eager to crush any public expressions of dissent — both inside and outside the convention hall.
Inside, efforts are underway to make it impossible for delegates pledged to antiwar libertarian Ron Paul to place their candidate in nomination — an effort the Huffington Post deems a “defense” against Paulian “shenanigans.” Party rules say officially-recognized candidates must have pluralities of delegates in at least five states: however, at a recent Republican National Committee meeting, Texas committeeman John Ryder moved to increase the number of states to ten — just to make sure Paul doesn’t make the grade. Disdaining convention floor fights as “the residue of the 19th century,” Ryder averred it is time to “streamline” the process by which the GOP nominates its standard-bearer. Ryder claimed that he wanted to eliminate “distractions” at the Republican convention:
“Unless you’ve got a real contest, where you have two candidates or three candidates who actually have a mathematical chance of winning, then why do we want to go through the exercise?”I have a better idea: since polls are showing Mitt Romney being soundly beaten by our incumbent President, why don’t’ we just dispense with these pesky elections — which are, after all, just part of the residue from the 18th century — and declare Barack Obama the winner? That way, we can save time, energy, and taxpayers’ money — because, after all, the taxpayers are footing the bill for Mitt’s coronation, just as they are for the Democrats. Think of it as a Republican budget-cutting plan — the Ryder plan.
To the Republican party Establishment — and much of the rank-and-file activists — political debate is a “distraction” from what really matters in politics, which is seizing power. As for the rules governing the political process — they can be changed at a moment’s notice, and bent any which way, in order to facilitate this seizure.
