BEDFORD -- A Honduran man who was deported from the United States in 2001 after his release from a five-year prison sentence he served in New Jersey for aggravated manslaughter was arrested this weekend.

Bedford police took Osvaldo Ferrufino, 41, into custody Saturday, about 3:30 p.m., after an officer ran his identity through a state crime computer during a traffic stop near 180 Hartwell Road and discovered a federal arrest warrant, police said.

The officer stopped a black Honda sedan because it was pulled over in the parking lot of the former Raytheon Building at 180 Hartwell Road, which has been hit by several break-ins recently as crews prepare to demolish it, police said.

The driver of the car had a valid license and no warrants, but when the officer ran Ferrufino's name through computers, he discovered an immigration warrant for Ferrufino's arrest from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, police said.

Paula Grenier, spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a branch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said Ferrufino had been deported in 2001 and re-entered the country “a couple of years ago.�

According to information on the Web site of the New Jersey Department of Corrections, Ferrufino was imprisoned there from Feb. 23, 1996, until April 20, 2001, for a conviction on a single count of aggravated manslaughter in Union City, N.J.
