re: Lou Dobbs and immigration
My initial reaction was one of wanting more detail. I think I would need a lot more information and clarification from him to know what he is getting at here. I think he is very much for border security and national sovereignty. I also know from his past comments on air that he wants to find a good solution to the problem of illegal immigration, which, for him in the past included some kind of electronic monitoring of illegal aliens, which I personally would NOT like to see applied to ANYONE, legal or illegal. I do think he is taking a more political angle, and that may indeed dilute, rather enhance, his effectiveness. Folks like you all ought to begin to challenge and engage him in more conversation and force him to detail more comprehensively what his real thoughts are on this issue. I like Lou and he has had some excellent ideas about how to make this country both free in the Constitutional sense, and in terms of common sense free enterprise, and has had some amazingly forward-looking ideas about energy production and so forth. I would rather see him lead people in the realm of ideas and debate, than to see him run as a politician however. He will tend to compromise away, I think, too much of what is truly important, in the interests of political expediency. In politics, we need people with very strong values, and the will to defend them.
My two cents worth.
