    Out-of-State Drivers Flock to N.C.

Out-of-State Drivers Flock to N.C. to Obtain Cheaper Tags, Insurance

Raleigh — People come from other states to take advantage of North Carolina’s deals on car insurance. Now, state officials are trying to stop fraud that costs every driver in the state.

Most license tags found in downtown Raleigh are North Carolina-issued. However, state insurance investigators are growing increasingly frustrated because more and more Tar Heel state tags are showing up illegally in northern states.

“Now, that's a problem because they don't actually live here,” said Chrissy Pearson with the state Department of Insurance. “They're paying much cheaper rates then they should be paying, and they go back up to New Jersey and have an accident and we're all ending up paying for it.”

Pearson said motorists flock to North Carolina from the most expensive car insurance states like New Jersey and New York. They give agents fake local addresses, get their insurance and tags and head back to their real homes up north.

“It could adversely affect all of us,” said Ray Evans, general manager of the North Carolina Rate Bureau. “If the differential is high enough, people will drive a long distance, I'm sure, to get any kind of goods more cheaply.”

Another concern is illegal immigrants. Investigators said they suspect van loads are coming into the state.

“They bring them down to an agent's office and they all buy insurance on the same day,” Pearson said. “Those are cases where we believe insurance agents themselves may be implicated.”

With insurance in hand, illegal immigrants could use other fraudulent documents to get drivers licenses.

Whether it's in residency or rates, regulators want lawmakers to close the loopholes.

“(We want this done) so that we can actually prosecute them and give them some hard time and some stiff penalties for this type of fraud,” Pearson said.

FYI, my wife and I are shopping for a place to move to. We've grown weary of Oregon's welfare state and taking from the working to help miscreants, the lazy and illegal aliens. North Carolina was near the top of the list for us at one point. The dealbreaker? Our homestate, Oregon, is second only to NC for entitlements, turning a blind eye, government complicity and sanctuary for illegal aliens.

Sorry North Carolina, you don't get my tax dollars. That would be like frying pan to fire. Who knows how many others have chosen not to move there because of their open door policies towards illeglas at the expense of citizens.

Too bad North Carolina, I make a handsome income and would have paid a lot of taxes. You need to decide what you want, law abiding taxpayers or cheap labor and crime?

NC USED to be a nice place to live but since the illegal invasion, things have changed. Even the mountain areas of NC have been invaded and are seeing a huge rise in crime due mainly to illegal invasion. It seems that criminal illegals are in every state now but NC has been a magnet simply because they give a DL to ANYONE!

Same in Oregon, it's a shame. If you are from a foreign country, you can get a license easier than if you are a legal citizen. Scary but absolutely true!

What are the politicians going to do when taxpayers flock to places where their rights are protected and all they are left with is bums and people working outside of the tax roles? They'll scratch their stupid heads and ask "What happened?"

What's shocking to me is how passively legal citizens of
NC accept the invasion. The churches seem to be postively
encouraging it. The school system welcomes illegals with
open arms. Our state AG Roy Cooper refuses to even talk
about identity theft anymore after running it into the ground
during elections. Apparently, Roy only wanted to go after
legal Americans involved in identity theft. Why wouldn't
illegals feel welcomed here? It's only a few racists who are
    opposed to the invasion.

We have some of the most corrupt politicians in the country here in the Tarheel state.

Example: Jim Black, who will soon be serving time as a felon. They have turned a blind-eye to this problem and actually encouraged it, knowing how the voters feel about this problem.

NC Is a wonderful place to live, but it is being over-ridden much like Arizona, New Mexico and California.

At least you guys have had some ICE raids take place. For some reason, as the second most popular sanctuary state, Oregon is yet to have an ICE raid that I know of. Does anyone know why nothing has happened here?

With a fake address, how do they get their renewal?

I live in Illinois a half hour south of Wisconsin. Yet...we have Wisconsin plate car ALL over town, dropping kids off school, etc...

Hopefully Wisconsin is tightening that up but I haven't heard if they will or not. Any locals hear?
