Sign outside Tactical Firearms in Katy has people talking

    Sunday, May 11, 2014

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- Once a sign for advertisement, a Katy business uses its marquee as a sign of the times, echoing America's divided political views. And nothing makes a statement more than politics.

Tactical firearms in Katy is known for igniting intense debate. Currently on the sign outside the business is a message that reads, 'I like my guns like Obama likes his voters. Undocumented.'

The store gained national attention last year when its owner discussed gun rights with rocker Ted Nugent and Texas politicians.

People who live near the store on Mason Road make it a point to check out its sign. It's known for its catchy phrases that appear every Wednesday.

"I think that so much is going on in the government that we need to speak up and say what we believe," said Katy resident Nancy Newbrough.

The phrases are apparently a team effort. Employees at the gun shop get together and come up with an eye-catching statement each week.

"Political statement, yes. Freedom of speech? Yeah," said Katy resident Jason Wilfon. "Some people might not like it, some will."

Tactical's owner, Jeremy Alcede, didn't want to talk on camera, but he released this statement to ABC-13: "Thank God for our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights. It's meant as a joke. It's meant to be funny."

Texas Gun Store Sign: ‘I Like My Guns Like Obama Likes His Voters: Undocumented'

Texas-based Tactical Firearms is making national headlines for a bold sign outside the business that says, "I like my guns like Obama likes his voters. Undocumented."

The local ABC affiliate reported that the store, which is located in the Houston suburb Katy, puts attention-grabbing phrases on its sign every Wednesday. Employees apparently collaborate on the messages each week.

The reaction to this particular sign has been mixed; while some are offended, others think the message is spot-on.

"There are so many important issues in our country right now and I’m glad that people are standing up for what they believe in and speaking out," Christina Duong Davis, Republican Precinct Chair 257 and Houston resident, told Breitbart Texas. "Although some are finding the sign extremely offensive, there are some truths to what it says. The First Amendment isn’t in our Constitution so that we can talk about the weather--it’s there so that we have the freedom to say whatever we want, including controversial things."

Keith Strahan, another Houston resident, told Breitbart Texas that he thinks the sign is an example of "brilliant marketing."

He added, "I know the store probably meant it as a joke, but I am all for more people talking about or becoming familiar with 'constitutional carry.'"

Adam Lotts, also a resident of Houston, said, "For me, that this garners national attention at all is the biggest issue. So the guy wants to--without engaging in hateful speech--make a joke and at the same time point out an existing, well documented double standard. That's 100% his prerogative. The biggest issue here is the development of such an oversensitivity to PC-ness seems to have reached defcon-1, and the symptom is a lashing due to difference of opinion."

Although Tactical's owner, Jeremy Alcede, did not immediately respond to calls from Breitbart Texas, he sent a statement to ABC-13 that implied the sign references the fact that Texans are not forced to register their firearms.

The statement read, "Thank God for our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights. It's meant as a joke. It's meant to be funny."

Tactical firearms reportedly gained national attention last year when its owner, Jeremy Alcede, spoke about gun rights with Ted Nugent, CNN's Piers Morgan, and Texas Attorney General Dan Patrick.
