Lou Dobbs Tonight

Join Lou for an hour of news, debate and opinion. Nearly one
year after adopting laws cracking down on illegal aliens,
Hazleton, PA’s Mayor Lou Barletta headed to federal court to
see if the town will be allowed to carry out the plans.

The ACLU and other illegal alien supporter groups filed a
lawsuit against the town of Hazleton over its ordinances
cracking down on the employers of illegal aliens and barring
landlords from renting to illegal aliens. The ACLU claims
Hazleton’s laws are unconstitutional. This is the first legal
challenge to local ordinances dealing with illegal immigration
to go to court. There are somewhere between 70 to 80
communities that have passed similar ordinances who will be
watching this trial closely. We’ll have a live report on this
landmark case tonight.

The Bush administration continues to push its guest worker plan
for illegal aliens despite the staggering numbers of U.S.
citizens that remain unemployed. Recent studies show the
jobless rate among African Americans who have dropped out of
high school was 72 percent, while in the same category 29
percent of whites and 19 percent of Hispanics also went without
work. Why does the United States need a guest worker program
given the number of Americans who need jobs? We’ll ask and
answer that question tonight.

In a controversial effort to chase foreign oil development but
still maintain its lucrative government contracts in the United
States, Halliburton is moving its headquarters to Dubai. The
U.S. services oil firm will send its CEO, Dave Lesar, to Dubai
but insists it will keep a corporate office in Texas and remain
incorporated in the United States. Another case of a lack of
corporate conscience and profits over patriotism?

Half of the patients who wind up in emergency rooms in America
have been injured while under the influence of alcohol and
drugs. But many doctors are intentionally failing to test
patients so they can get paid by insurance companies.
Thirty-two states have laws allowing insurance companies to
neglect payment on any injuries resulting from drugs and
alcohol. As a result, doctors are being forced to let drunk
drivers off the hook in an attempt to protect themselves and
innocent victims. We’ll have that shocking story as we continue
our coverage of The War Within.

And we'll discuss the future of our role in Iraq with Niall
Ferguson, history professor at Harvard University and author of
"War of the World."
