Thread: Taxpayer Boycott

A poster on another forum had the following idea for making our voices heard in the halls of government.

After today's so-called boycott, I was wondering what those who oppose illegal immigration could do in response. Unfortunately, a letter writing campaign probably would not garner the media coverage that a bunch of flag-waving illegals marching in the street do. Also, I am starting to lose faith that letters maybe don't send enough of a signal to our elected officials anyways.

So here is an idea. What if, in addition to a letter writing campaign, all hard working tax paying Americans who oppose illegal immigration simply changed their income tax exemptions on their W4 so that the federal and state governments receive no tax revenue for the month of July. If enough people do the same, could we effect a significant enough interruption in the .gov's cash flow that they might sit up and listen to the will of the people? If our elected officials continue to ignore the will of the people, continue the tax boycott for another month. In addition, maybe we could then donate some of the $$ normally withheld to the minuteman border fence project or some other anti-illegal immigration movement.

The advantages of this is it would allow us to send a strong signal well before the upcomming congressional elections. Second, it is a relatively easy thing to do for those who cannot take of a day to attend a protest or a march and lastly would hopefully send a signal that would last an entire month rather than a single day.

Of course we would end up owing a significant amount come next Apr 15 along with potential tax penalties, but that is something I would be willing to incur.

Any thoughts if this might be a worthy method of protest? If so, how could we get something like this co-ordinated on a large enough scale by July to be effective?

I think its a great idea. I've manipulated my withholdings in a like fashion in the past. Thoughts?

I have previously advocated a TAX REVOLT by all AMERICAN citizens. We can't seem to get their attention any other way. They are hell bent to destroy this nation...but without OUR money..they are HAMSTRUNG.

We can only boycott what if any is owed after what is deducted from our paychecks, or if you are self-employed.

I know for a fact this would get there attenion, problem is somehow true American's wont come to gether, everyones got there own agenda. I just took it on myself. I sent letters to Calif. Senetors and the Frantise Tax Board. I quote " I filed but refuse to pay income tax's this year until you start representing the AMERICAN people." To this point I have not given a dime to state or IRS.

Oh, well, I guess if Cindy Sheehan can do it so can the rest of us right?Can you just add more dependents for one month, like 12 million? We are paying taxes for the illegal's aren't we?Just tell IRS we want to add those dependents to our income taxes, if they have a problem with that contact President Bush as he seems to think it is our responsibility to take care of them.

Its a great Idea but unfortunately Skipp is right, Most people wont do it.

Good for you! I thought of same thing, but chickened out on April 17. I think I will change my withholdings, however. I think we could make a huge impact, but how do we convince others to do the same?

The noon TV broadcast mentioned a backlash from the boycott. Apparently "hires illegal aliens" stickers were pasted on closed businesses. That was the teaser for news at 5. Maybe a little juvenile, but stickers could be fun.

Edit to update: They ran the story. Seems somebody printed out signs that said"you don't want my American money today, you won't see any of it tomorrow." They were taped to stores closed for the "boycott." Then the potatohead anchorwoman blurted out something about "many people are unhappy with House Bill 4437." I lost some tooth enamel while changing the channel.
