How best to reach LDS leaders in Provo and other towns of the Utah's 3rd Congressional District? That's the question I'm facing, and this is a request for advice.

Here's the situation. We've been sending mail to church leaders in key districts for some time now. Scroll down for our usual mailing. Never before have we been faced with a Mormon district. This raises two issues for those of us here at the Sinking Ship Action Team.

First, LDS Wards don't post email addresses of leaders. One cannot simply harvest a mailing list by browsing the Web. (If it is possible, someone please tell how). So it's probably going to have to be US Mail.

Second, and this is really where we could use some advice, what changes to our mailing that would make it more effective for Mormons?

To The Pastor:

In your role as spiritual advisor you may find
yourself talking to a person who has broken many laws.

They may have come to America illegally, purchased
and used a fake ID, and abetted tax evasion (by
taking cash from an employer). This person might be
angry because Americans who do follow the laws want
them to go home.

Anger is understandable, but, of course, not
appropriate. Breaking the law puts one in opposition
to authority and in conflict with civil society. One
should understand that, and not be angry when
others ask correction. Please counsel against
inappropriate, childish anger.

In your area there will soon be windshield flyers,
radio spots, newspaper ads, demonstrations, or
emails with the message "Go home". You can
prepare your flock, be they legals or not, to respond
in a mature, Christian manner by including the
following topics in upcoming talks.

-> Avoiding violence, Ghandi and King
-> Righteous Anger vs. Childish Anger
-> Turning the other cheek

As America works its way from today's massive
disregard for law into the resumption of civil
society, you might play a significant part in this
transition being /peaceful/.

I pray you will.
