Thread: JROTC Program Flys Mexican Flag

I was at a football game last night and witnessed the members of the JROTC program at this Houston, Texas high school marching in their own parking lot carrying the American flag right along side of the Mexican flag. They were preparing for the varsity football game which will be held tonight. The JROTC will be part of the flag ceremony while our National Anthem is being played before the game.

Needless to say I am very angry over this and feel it is a slap in the face or this country, the American people and all the men and women who have served this country proudly.

I have written the US Army, the head of the US JROTC, and John Culberson and ask for someone to put a stop to this.

Place: Austin High School, Houston ISD

They were marching in a parking lot next to the practice football field.

I have spoken to a JROTC Colonel at another high school and he assured me that the JROTC was never supposed to carry another countries flag in any ceremony. They were just as shocked as I was and said the head of that program needed to be reprimanded.

Questions may also be directed to HISD’s JROTC headquarters, which is located at 4610 E. Crosstimbers Road (77016). The phone number there is 713-636-6454.

They should be able to take a complaint and make a report as well as saying which school, and which service branch, was there if Austin HS does not have a unit on campus.


I didn't find Austin High School listed in HISD's JROTC schools, so it may have been a visiting school's color guard (too many years bringing too many changes since I was JROTC in the general area for me to pull it out of thin air).

Here are the HISD schools that were listed as having JROTC programs at the main district site:
* Davis High School
* Jones High School
* Jordan High School for Careers
* Kashmere High School
* Milby High School
* Reagan High School
* Sharpstown High School
* Waltrip High School
* Westside High School
* Wheatley High School
* Worthing High School
* Yates High School

Either HISD did not list all the schools or this could be a new program. I talked to the Colonel at another HISD high school and he knows the person in charge. The name is Pedro Armendariz (PARMENDA@houstonisd.org)

Pathetic. My son is a Jr. ROTC cadet and he would have pulled off his insignias and thrown them on the ground before he would have marched with them.

That's an insult to every ROTC Cadet and their families around the country.

I sure agree with you. My father and grandfather were both high ranking officers in the US Army. It makes me mad as hell.

Were my old SMI still within his mortal coils (Sir, still miss you, Sir! ) heads and a**ess would be flying in all directions, and I will do what I can to keep his memory spit shined and make him proud. The MI will have a COW, if he hasn't already heard about it.
