Explain to me just who and what is the INS or ICE?

I applied for the border patrol INS back in 1988. I did not pass the interview. Probably just as well. However, now that my wife is a legal immigrant I have some questions about the INS for you experts here. My only knowledge of the INS has to do with filling out forms for my wife and what I read. My impression is that it is a really weak government agency? Point by point my anaylsis?

    1. INS always says "...we don't have enough manpower"... Is this true and if so how many do they really need to be effective? Heck, every fast food joint in Denver has Spanish speakers. INS agents must know where to look? I have joked lined up INS buses at all Catholic masses in Spanish and ask for papers as they leave. I am joking but you get my point!

    2. INS employees make less money than similar jobs at other government agencies. I read where many INS officials left the INS to take Airport security management jobs? Why is this so if true?

    3. Why is the maximum age for joining the border patrol age 37 and why does not Tancredo introduce legislation to change this?

    4. Somebody re-explain what happened in El Paso several years ago when somebody in the INS decided to kick a lot of INS officials out of their 9 to 5 desk jobs and put them on the border with Juarez because the people of El Paso were angry about crime and theft due to Mexican illegals? Crime went down like %40 I heard?

    5. I have read where this Texas Congressman, Silvestre Reyes, D Texas
wants amnesty yet he was once the Western Region head of the INS. Was it not his job to keep illegals out? Now he turns the other way?

    6. I understand that %40 of the employees of the INS are Hispanic? Is this true and why? because they are already Spanish speaking and minority so they get double consideration in hiring? I don't know somebody tell me the truth on this?

WOW!! Those are some very good questions....and some very interesting pieces of information Jack Smith.

One piece of information that may help explain the TOTALLY INEXPLICABLE BIZARRE ACTIONS AND INACTIONS OF INS is:

They report to a Board. I found an employee of National Council of La Raza serves on the Board of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).

I'll see if I can find the name of that person and post it here.

I've spent the last hour looking for the document where I found that the INS Board had a National Council of La Raza member on it and can't find it. It was in the INS website because it said they report to a board and then I found another link discussing it with the National Council of La Raza member on it!! The government has totally changed the website! Now look what is the first page of the ICE section.

Does anyone see a problem with THIS?? SIXX??

If you do, please post what it is....

Damn, I am so upset I can't find that article. Also, INS no longer exists. As of now, they have eliminated the INS...have have NEW NAMES for everything. Maybe they eliminated the Board when they eliminated INS or have changed the name of it which is why I can't find it. ICE is now in Homeland Security--it was still in DOJ when I read about the Board. Anyway, this link will give you access to everything we have now by whatever they call it now. DRO is still the same too.

Also, I read INS or whatever they call is now is 30,000 employees...not exactly a small group of folks, if you get my drift and their BIG RESULTS are the 60 guys working on aircraft, nuclear power plants, etc....whose pictures we didn't get to see and the two guys from New Orleans involved in the fraudulent documents whose pictures we did get to see. Anyone see a problem with this???? SIXX??? ONLY the Americans get photographed and POSTED on the ICE NEWS SITE??

I wonder how MUCH TAX MONEY THAT cost us, changing all the names of the agencies so we can't find them? AT least the ICE number is the same to report suspicious activity....LOOK HARD to see if you can find the number, it's the smallest print on the page...like they are looking for calls, eh, OR NOT!!
