Thread: Attention North Carolina Activists: Hammer Burr the Sell Out

Kate just got off the phone from Burr's office & he's playing the "I'm not for AMNESTY game" & won't commit to a "NO" vote on cloture!!!
His inside line is: (202) 224-3154

BURR needs to keep hearing from North Carolinians especially!!!!

Hit him on the fact that this bill IS AMNESTY and the LOOPHOLES in BORDER & NATIONAL SECURITY WHICH the AMENDMENTS WILL NOT CLOSE!


My call-
I asked if he would be voting NO on cloture, and when staff person told me that he'd not issued a position on it I asked why not?????? He said that Burr was against amnesty, and I said oh really??? Since this IS an amnesty bill, then he should just come out and declare that he will be voting NO on cloture, since this bill will destroy social security and will be costing Americans and North Carolinians TRILLIONS. And personally, I do not want to provide entitlements to those who have come here illegally!!!

Then he back-tracked and said that the bill was not just about amnesty but also border security. So I asked him if Burr was REALLY concerned about border security and national security. He said of course. I then said that if he is, he'd realize that this bill is so full of loopholes on border and national security AND NONE OF THE AMENDMENTS (and I've seen the list of amendments) closes these gaping loopholes, such as the absence of any EXIT system, and the 24-hour background check provision (an impossibility) which will ensure that people are legalized whether or not they have a complete background check. If Burr is concerned about national security, he cannot support this bill.

By the same token Norm Coleman (R-MN) is playing the same game and this turkey is up for re-election, too!!! (202) 224-5641

I called two of Burr's offices. Don't think they are getting that many calls as I always get right through to the Washington office and talk to the same guy all the time.

I got the same song and dance from him too. I told them that's not the same as an official commitment to vote No on Cloture and No to the Immigration bill.

I think they refered me to his website and a statement about not supporting amnesty.

I called the D.C. office and basically got the same from the male staffer that I spoke to. I do think Burr's riding the fence and could be in a business interest pocket. I kept the staffer on the phone with my discourse for a good 10 minutes. I demanded an audience with Senator Burr the next time he back in North Carolina. I was told that his scheduler is a Parker White who can be reached via e-mail at:
parker_white@burr.senate.gov

Any North Carolinian's want to get together and schedule an audience with Senator Burr the next time he's back here?

On another note: Here's another ploy to use when you call a staffer and ask what a senator's current position is on the new version of the Grand Amnesty Plan (S. 1639). If you get something that is non-committal to opposing it or an outright statement that they support the amnesty bill, ask them, "If the senator can't come to the phone at this time to discuss this with me, I'd like you to tell me why this is good for America and the workers and citizens of our country." You'll usually get a 'duh' or an I just don't know enough about the bill to state anything and I'm just here to take messages. Then launch into your points against the bill. It does get their attention.

I have called his office numerous times and it is always the same song and dance. Whatever tune he is dancing to it has nothing to do with the betterment of America. I hope he comes to his senses!
