How Has The Economy Affected Illegal Immigration?

    Hi Everyone,

I am a huge supporter of all that ALIPAC does, and wanted to know...how has our country's current economic status affected the number of illegals crossing our borders? Has it stemmed the tide, or do we continue to see the same number of individuals sneaking into the country each day?

From articles I've read, it doesn't seem things have stopped. Slowed down maybe. But I don't know if anyone knows for sure. I know I haven't seen an exodus.

    Hi srfrazee, Welcome!

I have not notice that many changes. Although there are less day laborers on street corners waiting for someone to pick them up for work. Besides that it looks pretty much the same. The traffic is just as bad too.

    Welcome...srfrazee!

If anything, here in L.A. we have MORE illegals! It's much, much better to be poor in the US than in Mexico! They have all their needs paid for courtesy of you, me, and the rest of the taxpayers! Whatever we don't provide for them...they can just hold up a liquor store or mug a little old lady on the street!

I read in last weekends edition of the Miami Herald that many were actaully leaving due to the lack of work. In last weeks Sun Sentinel they said that illegals were getting desparate as there are layoffs in construction jobs. The biggest indicator I find is Western Union advertising on TV for Americans to use their service. This is due to the economy and illegals not sending as much if any money back home.

I believe there are still a substantial number running to cross the border. With both presidential nominees promoting amnesty, we can expect a good many more here to take advantage.

It's disheartening, to say the least. Here in the small NC town where we live (my husband is currently active duty Army) the majority of people are migrant farm workers who pop out anchor babies every turn of the road. I really wish that local law enforcement was able to do something about it. It seems that NC is more illegal friendly...and I'm definitely not happy with this.

I don't think more will come. Amensty is not what many would take advantage of. They are very well aware that it is better for them to remian illegal and be able to get handouts. Also in this economy there are no jobs and if they become legal they will want the same money Americans make.
