Most of the companies will shortlist the candidates before March-1st and all the documents would reach them on or before Mar-15. This will enable the H1B sponsoring employer to prepare and file your H1B filing application on April-1st. The quota for this fiscal year (FY-2009 Oct-1-2008 to Sep-3-2009) may reach the limit on the first day. There may be more than 65,000 filings on the first day and applications may be selected on random basis similar to last year.
Last year, more than 100,000 applications were filed on the first day, similarly the same or more number of applications are expected to be filed this year too. So the possibility of getting H1B is only 50%, even the H1B filing happens on the very first day. So we encourage you to find an H1B sponsor at your earliest and submit your documents

Tips
Documents: Scan all your documents and convert them as PDF, make sure the scanned documents are very clear and almost same as original. This will help you to send your documents in electronic format to your H1B sponsoring employer.

Salary Negotiations: Check with your friends who are in USA and ask their opinion about the market and salary structure for your qualification and experience. There are many parameters considered when an employer makes the offer. Experience and skills are the primary criteria for deciding the package. Healthcare benefits are very expensive in US, especially if you have family and kids. Most of the h1b sponsoring employers offer market salary because of demand.

H1B filing process is very time consuming and expensive process. Most of the companies spend around $4000 for each case without knowing whether the case will be selected for the process or not. So please do not waste your time as well the employer's time, if you do not have a solid decision of working in USA. Also if you already have the offer, do not explore more opportunities. The H1B quota is very limited and it is our responsibility to use them effectively.
