IF THIS ISN"T A DRIVERS LICENSE WHAT IS

Upon browsing my states upcoming bills I happened across this-

HB1586-Certificate for Driving, persons unable to establish legal presence in the US, who would be eligible for a Virginia Drivers License to obtain a Certificate for Driving to be used for driving privledges.

Now does this sound like a way to go ahead and give a license to an "undocumented" or not? I also found their thinking of passing a law to require 1st time applicants for a DL to go through drivers education classes first!Thats HB1246.

Time to rally your state together!

Our state, Illinois, tried this this year. It died -the politicans said they have never gotten so many against calls about ANY issue. There are threats of it coming back -but we are keeping an eye on it.

We got lists together of all the reps that weren't voting against this or on the fence and hit them big. My town site is town or I can show you the campaign I set up there. Some of it is on the focus campaign area/Waukegan on alipac as well.

Unable to establish legal presense person....I haven't heard that one yet.

Let us know what is happening and/or if you need calls/emails. Keep an eye on the status. Call your rep to start with. You know the drill!!

Tighter license rules hit illegal immigrants
    by Daniel Vock

    • It’s getting tougher

    • Do other states have an answer for California?

The states that issue licenses to illegal immigrants are stepping up efforts to combat fraud and identity theft. That means stricter rules for ensuring immigrants live in-state and are who they say they are.

In the last year, North Carolina and Tennessee stopped issuing licenses to illegal immigrants altogether. Meanwhile, New Mexico’s motor vehicle agency enlisted the Mexican government to help the state check the identity of would-be drivers. Maine is working to start limiting licenses to in-state residents, after decades of resisting.

Only seven states – Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington – allow undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses.

Supporters of the policy say it helps authorities know who’s on the road, encourages immigrant motorists to buy insurance and decreases tension between police and immigrants.

While fraud was cited as the chief reason for stricter rules in those states, a 2005 federal law called the “Real ID Act,â€

Research Tennessee. They gave licenses to illegals -the program was such a disaster they rescinded it recently. I sent articles about this to the Illinois reps.

Thanks for all the pointers FedUpIn Waukeegan.I am astounded this is being tried while they are also trying to buckle down here on illlegals. I will say there are MANY bills pending in Va. that crack down on illegals like-Penalizing overcrowded housing, gang members being questioned about status, penalties for employers of illegals and penalties for the illegals themselves.
Again thanks for the encouragement,I'm still rather new to this but learning everyday thanks to all the Alipac folks and the information provided.

The Real ID Act has provisions to allow illegals to drive.

I took my granddaughter in to get her driver's permit in Texas the other day. There were several hispanics in there with furtive attitudes. I heard the clerk ask one if he had a social security number. He said no. She gave him the papers anyway and he went happily back to his group who were all filling out paperwork. I checked the granddaughter's paperwork because I was fixing to have a fit... we register to vote with our drivers licenses. The paperwork did not allow registering to vote if you had no social security number. So Texas IS issuing them licenses. Observed fact.

That is why I say they can take their Real ID and shove it.
