I read thru that, but I couldn't find something..

What will be the association between me and the REAL ID?

meaning, is this an issuance of a new type of ID card for Citizens or for non-citizens?

I am confused. Can you clarify?

I am not baiting. I am truly curious if there is a difference here.

You do not get one, unless you are a newborn in CA!

Heard about this on the radio last night and did a search before starting a new topic...

Anyway, what the author of the bill/measure/act was saying was this will help get rid of anchor babies -also referring to it as the "Anchors Away Act".

Illegals will no longer get California birth certificates - rather certificates of birth. The difference between the two is the California birth certificate means you're a legal resident and will be issued a social security card which, in turn, means you're eligible for state sponsored funding and benefits. The illegals birth certificate will simply say they were born but not a legal resident. No more freebies.

According to him it's an amendment to the current process - one that will distinguish between legal and illegal newborns.

He also stated that because of this bill and the need to distinguish between the two, it would be impossible to do so without requiring proof of citizenship from the parents. With that elephant in the room now being addressed, prenatal care would be reserved for legal residents only.

I'm glad something like this is in the works, but I already see a way it might be attacked.

People who are currently going through the legalization process are not illegals but they are not green card holders (legal permanent residents).
For example somebody with a K1 fiancee visa.
I'm sure a person in this situation will have a baby, will they get a Type 2 birth certificate?
Well that's just my way of thinking but who knows!

I wish that they gave it a different name besides the "Real ID Act"--------as it is going to scare a lot of people from investigating/supporting it------simply because of the name.

Well that's just my way of thinking but who knows!

If your a on a K1 then someone must be a US Citizen, the bill says just 1 parent has to be a citizen or green card holder so that would solve that.
