Well,,, the weasels are back in Washington
Well the weasels are back in Washington and are pushing hard to pass S.1348 this week.
We did a great job holding their feet to the fire over the Memorial Holiday,
"The level of intensity and volume is, I think, surprising,'' CNN contributor and radio talk show host Bill Bennett said. "We've talked to a number of Republican senators, and they confessed to being surprised by the reaction."
Over the break, Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) were booed at their state party conventions. Sen John Kyl was quoted as saying "he learned a few new words from his constituents".....
BUT.....
Jeff Flake just blows off the people who elected him.....
"You just have to recognize you will get 300 calls, you'll get conflicts at town hall meetings -- all of them negative," said Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who consulted with Kyl and hopes to carry a similar deal through the House in July.
HAVE YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES HEARD FROM YOU?
WELL...THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU ALL THROUGH THIS WEEK!
Last week, we asked you to call on your state's senators and as many other senators as you had time to call. The purpose was to urge them not to vote for any sort of amnesty. The pressure you all have brought on these politicians is beginning to show as they are publicly saying they are getting bombarded with calls against amnesty.
It's imperative that we all keep up the telephone barrage of the US Senators.
All of our elected representatives have showed up back in Washington today saying that the phone calls are dying off and what a good job they did convincing their screaming constituents to back this bill. SOURCE WAPO
THEY ARE LYING....WE KNOW IT AND THEY KNOW IT!
This week is now or nothing. Senators from both sides are going to try and amend the bill.
All the amendments that were proposed to strengthen this sham were voted down last week. But...no amendments will fix this bill.. .IT NEEDS TO BE KILLED!
THE MAIN THING FOR US ALL TO REALIZE THAT THEY DON'T WANT US TO, IS:
1) No one is even willing to take total Amnesty off the table. The Z visa will permit every illegal immigrant in our country to remain here indefinitely.... period. Saying anything else is just a plain lie.
2) The border security provisions of the bill remain totally non enforceable.....and likely will not even be funded (just like the fence they said they were going to build)
3) There is no provision in this bill to do anything to the illegals who just say "screw you we're staying" No way to find them.....No way to make them leave......No real change in employer sanctions besides plans for a vague "TAMPER RESISTANT" ID card......
(I might add they quit calling it tamper proof this week)
3) Besides that, virtually NOTHING has been done to this bill.
NOW HERE ARE THE MAIN AMENDMENTS THAT WILL HAPPEN THIS WEEK:
The Bill supporters are going to introduce two amendments.
One, Senate Amendment 1183, introduced by Sen. Hillary Clinton, New York Democrat; along with Sens. Chuck Hagel, Nebraska Republican, and Robert Menendez, New Jersey Democrat; would perpetuate and expand the current destructive practice of "chain migration" -- that is allowing someone who has already immigrated to the United States to bring many of his relatives into the United States -- regardless of whether these people can support themselves.
The other amendment...Senate Amendment 1194, introduced by Mr. Menendez along with Mrs. Clinton; Sen. Chris Dodd, Connecticut Democrat; and Sens. Barack Obama and Dick Durbin, Illinois Democrats; and Mr. Hagel would reduce the "backlog" of family-sponsored immigration applicants by increasing the number of green cards beyond the 600,000 already allowed for in S.1348.
Some Republicans have said they would pull their support for the bill if these amendments pass.........
BUT WAIT....
The Republicans under fire for their support already have a meaningless counter proposal designed to allow them to support these amendments.
The catchword is 'TOUCHBACK'........They are going to "stand firm" on their requirement that illegals must go back to Mexico for 1 day(or 1 hour) before returning to get their Amnesty prize........What the Republicans are holding out for in exchange for this horrible capitulation is a completely meaningless "touchback" provision -- everyone still gets their amnesty, and gets to bring over up to a dozen family members, many of whom will be too young, too old, or too sickly to work to support themselves and will thus do a job many Americans are willing to do (i.e., live off of taxpayer subsidies)
What is this touchback provision supposed to accomplish? Well, it's supposed to convince you (and they must think you're morons,) that this is 1, not an amnesty bill (we require a two hour bus ride back to Oaxaca!) and 2, we're serious about enforcement (see, we make people take unnecessary bus-trips, that's how tough we are!).
OUR MESSAGE THIS WEEK MUST BE TOUCHBACK IS A CROCK....
THIS BILL IS AMNESTY AND THEY ARE LYING IF THEY SAY IT ISN'T....
THE ENFORCEMENT PROVISIONS ARE FULL OF LOOPHOLES.....
THE EMPLOYER SANCTIONS ARE DESIGNED TO LET EMPLOYERS OFF THE HOOK...
AND WE DEMAND THAT THEY KILL THIS BILL.!
SO......BACK TO THE PHONES....BACK TO THE FAXES.....BACK TO THE EMAILS....
IN OTHER NEWS......WHICH WILL GET YOUR ADRENALIN UP:
After the capture by federal authorities of six alleged Muslim terrorists, three of whom were illegal aliens, charged with planning a terrorist attack on the Fort Dix military base in New Jersey, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was quoted by ABC News on May 10, 2007, as saying, "I think it would be a real tragedy if we tried to make this immigration debate one dealing with terrorism."
Reid thinks it would be a tragedy if the debate over immigration addressed how potential terrorists enter the United States? Isn't the purpose of an immigration bill to regulate and restrict who enters this country? Shouldn't it be a given that terrorists are to be kept out of the U.S.?
President Bush used equally harsh language to assail his critics. "If you want to kill the bill, if you don't want to do what's right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it. You can use it to frighten people,'' Bush said.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, put it this way
"Our product is better than those who want to do nothing."
The Clarion-Ledger reports:
"We're here because we want to voice our frustration with Sen. Lott's position on the bill which will be going before the Senate next week and will extend amnesty to 12 (million) to 20 million people that are here illegally," said Rodney Hunt, MFIRE president. Hunt said illegal immigration is a national and local problem that needs to be addressed.
"There are, in the United States right now, 630,000 people who have been ordered to deport by federal immigration judges that have faded into the woodwork, and our government doesn't know where they're at," he said...
BUT....FEINSTEIN?
Sen. Feinstein (CA) was quoted in the Washington Times on Thursday as saying that she needs to receive more than 30,000 calls before she wakes up and smells the coffee.
Besides your own senators, go after the 31 Republican Senators who voted for Cloture (to allow the bill to proceed, rather than kill it).

You can contact any of these Senators' D.C. offices by calling the toll-free switchboard at 1-866-340-9281.
Special scorn to those Republicans (in red) who negotiated this treachery!
Calling after hours, at night, or on weekends can be the most efficient way of making those calls. No busy signals, no rude/ignorant interns, just in-and-out in two minutes.
When the voice mail message comes on, quickly hit the "#" key and you will go immediately to voice mail. Sometimes you'll need to press "1" to get to the voice mail.
You'll have 1:20 to get your message across.
Tell them that:
* You want nothing to do with Comprehensive Immigration Reform;
* You see that as Amnesty, pure and simple, and that is intolerable;
* You want to see the completion of the Border Fence, not just 2 miles;
* You want to see strict compliance with the current Immigration laws:
* You want to see employers of illegals going to jail;
* You want to see the 650K criminal alien absconders previously ordered deported to be found, and kicked out before they hurt another American again;
* You want the social services and benefits cut off to illegal aliens;
* You believe that, if these steps are taken in earnest, the illegals will self-deport.
We need to keep up with our faxes and emails through the weekend and into next week. Let's run their fax machines out of paper so that every morning when they load it there will be a couple thousand faxes pending!

.. in case you want to send them a message.
There's a way to get through to each Senator's chief of staff, too, without being dumped into the largely-unread public email system.
I'm told:
If one wanted to contact a particular person, (such as a Chief of Staff) you would use the following format: john_little@Martinez.senate.gov
[i.e.,FirstName_LastName@Senator'sLastName.senate.g ov]
Usually the person at the front desk will tell anyone who calls the main office phone line what the Cheif of Staff's name is. An e-mail would be sent to a different COS in the same format with the proper COS's names and the Senator's name placed in it. That message would go straight to the COS's email account/blackberry and bypass the senate "bulk e-mail" account that most unsolicited constituent e-mail goes into.
This is a critical time.
Make your calls count.
Keep up the fight!
WE WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED AS THE WEEK PROGRESSES.

Thanks mkfarnam. I just printed this off so I can take it to work tomorrow. I want this bill to go away now. I want them to focus on border security and enforcement of current laws.
