Border crime statistics don’t tell the real story

Lately there have been a lot of stories about how much the crime rates along the border have declined.

What this is supposed to mean is—

US efforts to stop the flow of illegal immigration and drug smuggling are working;

–it is time to pass immigration law reform; and

– and it is safe to go to Nogales and shop.

Rural area residents are not buying the argument that the border is secure.

All that has happened is the drug smugglers and illegal aliens have been pushed away from border cities out onto federally-managed lands like the Coronado National Forest and Pajarita Wilderness Area.

But what is missing from the statistics is the Hispanic against Hispanic element of crime associated with illegal entry and drug smuggling.

Low crime rate stats for the border have one major problem…unreported crimes against illegal aliens

Illegal immigrants are routinely attacked by border bandits and robbed and raped in our borderlands.

These crimes are not shown in the official statistics because most of the victims don’t bother to report them…because they would be deported if they did. And the victims who do come forward get deported and the criminals continue their crime wave in the borderlands.

It is important to remember that Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and his Bortac unit were hunting the border bandits in Peck Canyon…trying to protect the lives of the illegal immigrants…when he was shot by an Hispanic border bandit.
