This is a weekly immigration update a friend is sending me from Rep. Lamar Smith, thought I would share it with you!

    Weekly Immigration Update

From: The Committee on the Judiciary - Minority Staff

    Date: 9/30/2009
    September 30, 2009

    Dear Colleague,

Following for your information is the latest immigration news and information. It is my hope that this will serve as useful information to you on a subject of national significance.

This week I've included the following items:

    Did you know?

A 2009 survey by the Pew Research Center's Global Attitudes Project found that:

One-third of Mexicans would move to America if they could, and more than half of them would come illegally.

"Four-in-ten Mexicans say they know someone who left for the U.S. but returned because they could not find a job, although even more (47%) report knowing someone who returned because they were turned back by the border patrol."
These findings validate the continued need for strong enforcement along America's southwest border. We must ensure that would-be illegal immigrants cannot come to America to take jobs, commit crimes and cost taxÂ*payers billions in health and education benefits.

The San Francisco jury didn't buy it.

    "You Mislead!"

NR's reporters track at least 20 inaccurate claims by the President in his speech on healthcare reform to Congress. Of his claim that the health care plan would not cover illegal immigrants, the article says, "For better or worse, the president's plan would, in his words, insure illegal immigrants."

Dallas Bomb Plot Suspect Stayed on Expired Visa" -

According to the story, 19-year-old Hosam Smadi, a Jordanian teenager accused of plotting to blow up a Dallas office building last week arrived in the United States legally, but overstayed his visa. As I told the reporter, "Once you come into the country on a tourist visa, you've passed 'Go.' People know they're home free and there's no effort made to keep track of them."

    News- Fox News: "

Liberals Seek Health Care Access for Illegals" -

House Democrats are arguing that all immigrants should be eligible to receive healthcare if they are paying their own way. According to the article, they believe that legal immigrants should have access to government-subsidized funds and that illegal immigrants should be able to purchase their own private plans.

"Two Arrested in Attempt to Crash Border at San Diego" In the latest example of violence at America's southern border, two men were arrested after trying to run through the San Diego border station at a high rate of speed without stopping for inspection. Law enforcement had to open fire on the vans that were bearing down on them without slowing. According to the article, "from October to June, 129,779 people were stopped trying to sneak through ports of entry, according to the latest official figures. In the same period, 429,247 people were detained trying to cross between stations."

    News- Houston Chronicle:

"Gap in fingerprint database obscures inmates' histories" - According to the article, the need for communication and information exchange between local, state and federal authorities is highlighted by the case of Andres Nava, who recently shot a Houston police officer. Despite the fact that Nava is an illegal immigrant with at least eight aliases and an arrest record in California that includes attempted murder, robbery, theft, drugs and exhibiting a firearm, had he been booked into a local jail on a more minor charge, the fingerprint system would not have shown any of his fingerprints or criminal history.

What I thought was great is it looks like Lamar Smith is all over this, keeping up the illegal immigration, I fear so many are not even paying attention to the crime out here
