Letter from Sen. Burr, United States Senator
Here is a recent response I received from Sen. Burr (R-NC) on immigration:
"Dear Mr. XXXXX:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the issue of immigration. I understand that this issue has reemerged as something that Congress may consider, and I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this important matter.
Over the course of history, we have welcomed generations of legal immigrants into our country -- immigrants who respect the law and contribute a great deal to our country. I believe that we should only permit those into our country who respect our laws, our system of government, and way of life. Immigrants should demonstrate their intentions of becoming productive, law-abiding members of our society as a condition for receiving citizenship. That said, individuals who have entered our country illegally and remain within our borders should not be rewarded. I do not support granting amnesty to those who have broken the law.
I believe we must strengthen security at our borders so that those who are considering entering our nation illegally are deterred, and those who attempt to enter our nation illegally are caught. This includes not only finishing construction of the double-layered fence along our southern border but also stepping up our Customs and Border Patrol presence.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me about his issue. If I can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Richard Burr
