SAB Miller Down On US Market Data

    Friday, September 22, 2006 6:16:28 AM ET
    Dow Jones Newswires

0902 GMT [Dow Jones] SABMiller (SAB.JO) -2.5% at 999p after industry data from AC Nielsen show declining beer volumes in the US are hitting Miller brands harder than most. Credit Suisse notes that SABMiller is improving prices but not at the same rate as the market or industry leader Anheuser-Busch (BUD). Brokerage says this is due to the higher proportion of subpremium brands in its portfolio, as consumers trade up in benign interest rate environment. This trading up is also benefitting Heineken (00897.AE), it says. (MIC)

I just got back from the usual nightmare trip to the stores. Went to a Jewel coz hubby wanted some beer for the games. There was a biker dude in front of me in line and he just caught the beer going on the belt out of the corner of his eye while punching in codes in the machine. He reached out almost as if it was instinct to stop me. Then he saw it wasn't Miller but appologised and started telling me about the boycott and all. I just let him, coz it made me feel good that people are paying attention. He seemed pleased to enlighten someone.

Sounds like the word has gotten out Crazybird. I noticed this article says nothing about the boycott. I guess they don't want to spook potential buyers or concede it is having its intended consequence.

This is great news. So many people are aware of the boycott and many are not buying Miller anymore. Everyone in our (and theirs as well) football group doesn't buy Miller at all anymore, and they've spread the word also.

This last quarter of Miller should produce some interesting Q4 results if they keep going down. Especially during football season.

    comic relief

I started a topic on my town's forum about the boycott. Definitely some people who will come along. But I thought for some comic relief I'd post a link of where the topics taken itself. They're slap happy . The post has switched over to taste testing, etc...
