Mexico finds tons of drugs in crackdown

Mexican officials said they have confiscated more than four tons of marijuana and other illegal substances in crackdowns on cities along the U.S. border.
"Operation Safe Mexico" also encompasses eight towns near the U.S.-Mexican border particularly Nuevo Laredo, where 700 people are under investigation, El Universal reported Monday.
A recent wave of drug-related killings in Nuevo Laredo and other Mexican cities prompted the creation of the safe Mexico project which includes using federal troops as law enforcement.
Earlier this month, newly appointed police chief was killed just hours after assuming the position.
