    Let's take a deep breath....

...and tighten our message. I think we can focus on a few points much more effectively. Can we crystalize our objections into sound-bite length statements? The real non-starters. The ones they have no defense for. Make sure they are factual. For example:

This bill gives Amnesty/legalizes *known* gang members. We aren't saying gang members "slip through" but those with gang ties are given Amnesty. And be ready with the citation of where that is in the bill. (I have tried to do a search with "gang" and "amnesty" but some key words in the threads make that difficult. I saw a thread that had this mentioned, though.)

Low wage earners like those that will be legalized will bankrupt Social Security. Be ready with the figures that show low-wage earners take far more from the system than they contribute.

This bill weakens enforcement - it shortens the fence.

    What else?[/u]

Main point here Sam is that this bill is aiming to reward lawbreakers, instead of punish them appropriately for their crime(s).

We are a sovereign nation, we have borders, and these people have mainly crossed our southern border, illegally, while coming in here. Why should our government then, not enforce our current laws, and on top of that insult to millions of law-abiding American citizens, give them ANY path to citizenship?

The question we should ask our senators could be put in this was; I was walking late one night, and looked into a store window and saw a pillow and blanket in the store window, it looked very comfortable, and since I had no pillows in my home, and no blankets, I broke into the store to take that blanket and pillow, took them home. However, when I was approached by police at my front door, who had a proof I had broken in, I pleaded and explained to them I had no blanket or pillow, I felt desperate. Still these heartless officers arrested me and now I am being charged with Theft and might go to jail.

So Senator ________ how is this fair? Why am I being held accountable for my crime of need, when millions of illegal aliens are not, and are possibly being offered complete forgiveness for their crime, which has cost this society far more than the stolen blanket and pillow I took
    ?

Although I have not stolen anything, this is a quite plausible situation, because every day American citizens have broken laws, committed crimes, and THEY are being held accountable for those crimes, yet illegal aliens not only get away with their crime(s), but with all of the free benefits they get while here, they, in essence, are being rewarded for their crimes.
