Thread: Immigration Bill Likely Dead! HELP ME!

After reading this article in my oklahoman newspaper this morning I had to take 2 extra blood pressure pills! My blood boiled. How can we keep letting our leaders take our taxes and give it away to people who don't even belong here, to people who are here illegally breaking our laws? What the hell can we do about this, I am totally feed up?

A spokeswoman for a Hispanic support group expressed relief that Rep. Randy Terrill's measure apparently is dead, but said efforts to galvanize Oklahoma's Hispanic community will continue.

"It really has knocked on the doors of the Latino community. We can no longer be dormant politically," said Pat Fennell of the Latino Community Development Agency in Oklahoma City.

Last month, more than 5,000 people, mostly Hispanics, rallied at the state Capitol in a show of unity and demonstrations have occurred across the state in opposition to harsh immigration laws. Anti-immigrant groups have staged counter rallies at the Capitol and elsewhere.

Terrill's bill would have cracked down on illegal immigrants, requiring Oklahomans to produce proof of citizenship before they receive government aid such as food stamps and Medicaid. State workers would have been required to report anyone who did not produce proper identification to federal immigration officials.

The House passed the measure, which clerics and faith-based groups condemned, but it died in the Senate. Terrill, R-Moore, said it likely won't be revived.

The state Constitution requires lawmakers to adjourn Friday at 5 p.m.

One way or another they want to get rid of us and it seems they're still working on physical and emotional shock value.
