It would have to be stamped out of a fixed weight of gold or silver for me to have any faith in it.

That being said if it is made of a precious metal and you could use it to actually buy things with. I really wouldn't care if the writing on it was in Martian.

Back on the gold standard you could use American double eagles, British soverigns, Spanish doubloons and it could all be used to purchase goods with. an ounce of pure gold is worth the going price regardless of the state seal on it.
