As the mayor of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Lou Barletta was a leader in local efforts to fight back against the illegal immigration that was ravaging communities. Now, as a Congressman, he has introduced his first piece of legislation--the Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act.

HR 2057 would crack down on "sanctuary cities"--local jurisdictions that do not cooperate with federal officials in enforcing immigration law. This bill would go further than other anti-sanctuary legislation by withholding all federal funding from these cities as long as their sanctuary policies are in place.

A federal district court and appeals court overturned the law passed in Hazleton, but the Supreme Court has now vacated that decision, directing that it be re-examined in the wake of the Court’s ruling upholding Arizona’s mandatory E-Verify law.

Most Americans favor this legislation--59 percent of likely voters according to a Rasmussen Reports poll--but only 29 percent of voters think Congress is even somewhat likely to pass it. Help us improve those odds by contacting your Representative.
