    Albor Ruiz Cries Racist, AGAIN!

Arizona immgration law sparks civil disobedience

    Albor Ruiz - Ny Local

    Thursday, May 20th 2010, 4:00 AM

Former CNN blow-hard Lou Dobbs, who made a career out of vilifying immigrants, was honored by the Women's National Republic Club on Monday.

Ironically, on the same day, 16 prominent New Yorkers, outraged by Arizona's racist immigration law, engaged in an act of civil disobedience and were promptly arrested in lower Manhattan.

"Our current immigration laws are so unjust and so immoral that people of conscience will no longer abide by and be complacent in the injustices committed by the government in our name," said Bishop Orlando Findlayter, chairman of Churches United to Save and Heal, the lead organizers of the action, in front of 26 Federal Plaza, and one of those arrested.

In a statement, those arrested - which included local clergy, labor, political and community leaders - said they felt compelled "to escalate our call for comprehensive reform in the face of inaction from our nation's elected representatives."

The statement added, "Our act of civil disobedience is performed with the belief that our laws can - and should - be better, and that our nation's leaders cannot stand on the sidelines as our society's core values are betrayed by a broken and immoral immigration system."

Others to get hauled away by the NYPD included City Council members Ydanis RodrĂ*guez and Jumaane Williams; Estela Vázquez, SEIU 1199 executive vice president; Deycy Avitia of the New York Immigration Coalition, and Susan Julia of the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City.

Monday's act of civil disobedience - coming on the heels of the March 21 rally in Washington that drew more than 200,000, and May 1 rallies that turned out hundreds of thousands across the nation - signals an escalation in tactics by immigrant advocates.

About 100 participants formed a chain of linked arms to stop traffic around the Federal Building.

Speakers criticized the Obama administration's rampingup of deportations and condemned the Arizona law that legalizes racial profiling and criminalizes immigrants.

"We've done the marches, the rallies, the calls, the faxes, but still our message is not getting through," said Chung Wha Hong, the New York Immigration Coalition executive director.

"Monday's civil disobedience is only the beginning because the level of frustration and anger is reaching a new height. People are willing to put their bodies on the line around the country."

In the last months, Hong said, the moral, economic and political aspects of immigration have come together, giving the issue an even more forceful dimension.

On Tuesday, Hong and the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, a coalition of grass-roots community organizations nationwide, held a telephone press conference to announce the next steps in the fight for reform.

Here in New York, new civil disobedience actions are planned for the next three consecutive Mondays. Similar actions of nonviolent resistance are planned in Los Angeles, Seattle, Milwaukee, Washington, Baltimore, Miami and other cities.

"More and more people are signing up," Hong said. "I can't remember the last time we had this amount of people for immigration protests. "

The activists also announced participation in a National Day of Solidarity with Arizona on Saturday, May 29.

The escalation of tactics should serve as a warning to politicians, Hong said.

"Obama opened the door to immigration reform with his promises, and now they can't shut it down," she added. "As long as our communities live in fear, we won't back down."

Illegal Alien is NOT A RACE. Alien according to the dictionary means: relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government. Therefore an Illegal Alien is some one fitting that description and is present in any country without permission. Now lets say NYC enforced the AZ law, here we would be required to report to ICE any law enforcement contact with IAs of EVERY RACE, from EVERY PLACE in the world! Now explain to me how that is racist? Please address my question in your very next article. If you choose not to please shut the fornicate up.

Our society's core values are being destroyed by immoral people aka illegal aliens and their enablers. We the people (US citizens and legal permanent residents) are demanding our immigration laws be enforced and not ignored. THAT is how to fix illegal immigration..ENFORCE AND DEPORT!

You don't like that? You're free to leave too!

Seems to me that this is just gonna wake up Joe sixpack and Suzie soccermom and ittitate them?

    Let them stomp their little feet and throw their temper tantrums like little children;

ILLEGAL is still illegal and more and more Americans are starting to wake up to what has already happened and what path we are on.
And they don't like what they see either. As proven by what we have already seen at the ballot boxes.
Illegal, or unlawful, is used to describe something that is prohibited or not authorized by law
