Seven reasons to seriously doubt our government!

When you’re a middle class citizen in Southwest Florida, there are many reasons to doubt our government. This is not a doubt of the gift and freedom of the American way, mind you. It is not, moreover, a desire for socialism over free enterprise—like that which our ‘Occupy Wall Street’ neighbors seek; rather, it is a return to a society where people (especially people in the ‘middle’) aren’t pawns!

Here are seven reasons to doubt our government.

1) With the advent of social media and worldwide communication, politicians have become rock stars! They are, for the most part, celebrities; highly visible in an extremely lucrative trade, with all the television interviews and internet exposure (no pun intended). Long ago, John Doe, Senator of Podunk was just a name on a ballot; now he (or she) is a slick, rich, self-promoting ideologue. Why should he (or she) really care about average schmucks like us? Why should they care about anything other than protecting their careers?

2) Politics is a choice between the far right and the far left. Yet just as much of life is not lived in black and white, but grey, so too do many Americans believe in sort of a middle area when it comes to economic topics. There is room for both the flourishing of small business and union workers. And though we do need smaller government and less entitlement, we still need government protection against corporate greed. But what do we do when we have governmental greed?

3) In economic issues, and issues of how to run the government, moderate may be the way. But how can a majority of Americans who live the moral Center-Right zone be forced to accommodate a minority of Left-of-Center Americans through the actions of the government? Why should the perversity of a few dictate the (dis) order of our society?

4) When viewing the Left (democrats), does tax the rich really mean socialism? When viewing the Right (republicans), does defend the rich mean status quo? Either way ‘the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.’

5) The majority of Southwest Floridians are descendants of immigrants! Yet the vast majority (almost all) of our relatives came over legally! Why the push for amnesty for ILLEGAL aliens when we have such a terror threat to our nation? Is this just another political ploy for new Hispanic voters? Another ploy to keep rock stars in office?

6) Recently, the attack on Christianity, Catholicism in particular, has seemingly ramped up. True religious freedom, at least for Christians who actually live Christianity has come under increased attack. Oddly, political pseudo-Christians such as Nancy Pelosi and Kathleen Sebelius, basically a large majority of the Obama administration, seem behind this new push.

7) Finally, with unemployment hovering around 9% nationally, and 13% locally, where is the governmental urge to ease our burden? Don’t try to pull the wool over my eyes with a new stimulus! That was as stimulating as a sleeping pill mixed with booze! And don’t tell me the Senate and the Congress loses sleep over our plight. They seem quite comfy serving another entrée of rhetoric; while the best-selling-author in charge oversees it all.
