    Fixing the ‘illegal’ issue

February 5, 2011 - By DENISE ZAFUTO Letters-
This is an open letter to President Barack Obama:

This is an open letter to President Barack Obama:

What a disgusting comment you recently made about your "disappointment" that The Dream Act did not pass so that 2 million illegal immigrants could be granted "amnesty." Such a pity about those "poor kids" who came to the United States with their "undocumented parents" years ago, lived here, grew up here and went to school here, and now can't "better themselves" and go to college because of their status as "undocumented."

    It's not "their fault."

Doesn't anybody accept responsibility for their actions any longer? As these "poor kids" grew up and became young adults, and surely must have discovered that they were here illegally, why didn't they try to explore measures to become legal citizens? Why don't they learn the English language if they want to live here? Why don't we make rules and abide by them?

My goodness, Mr. President, such a tragedy! You are more concerned about these people than you are about our own young men and women who are legal citizens of this country and cannot get ahead and "better themselves" either because:

An illegal immigrant is in a job that could be filled by a U.S. citizen. (Yes, yes, Mr. President, I know all about those 'jobs that Americans won't do' and frankly, I'm sick of hearing it, and do not feel it is applicable as often as you squawk about it). With the economy you have helped to institute in this country, any job at this point is a bonus to be appreciated.

The legal citizens here or their family make "too much" money to qualify for reduced tuition, food stamps, Medicaid or any kind of subsidy from the government, but those "poor kids" who are "undocumented" manage to live pretty well on the same subsidies that they should not be receiving based on their undocumented status in this country.

Discrimination. Yes, Mr. President, the discrimination is not against the illegal immigrants - you and your Congress have bent over backward to accommodate them and the pro-amnesty groups by refusing to enforce our immigration laws, no matter that you have seen time and time again through this last several months, in particular, that the American citizens in this country do not want open borders or any more foreign workers or visas. So you are, in essence, discriminating against the very people you are supposed to be representing as the president.

I have a question that maybe you, as you are such an expert on the illegal immigrant in this country, can answer for me. Instead of an illegal immigrant paying thousands of dollars to the coyotes to gain entry to the U.S., (sometimes paying many times over if they do happen to be caught at the border and are deported), why in the world don't they save that money and use it to enter the U.S. and apply for citizenship?

Do you have a hard time understanding the job you have been assigned as President? Do you need a very well documented set of rules to look at every day? You are so hell-bent on appeasing the pro-amnesty groups and the illegal immigrants in this country that you have lost sight of what your job is, which includes upholding the laws of the United States of America. If you were being graded with a report card, you would be failing miserably. A true leader makes unpopular decisions and lives with them, he/she doesn't "ride the fence" and use double talk instead of the truth.

Basically, what you need to do is very simple, and because I want to help you, I am offering you a basic suggestion that is really very succinct and concise: Be a leader and not a follower.

    illegals go home

Illegal aliens must be deported. We are tired of the politicians defending illegal aliens. It is time to deport illegal aliens.
