Congressman Charles Taylor Email to me Regarding CAFTA
Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to CAFTA (the Central American Free Trade Agreement). I always appreciate hearing from constituents and greatly benefit from knowing their views.
As you are certainly aware, I voted against NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement) and I view similar trade agreements with the same suspicion and wariness. International trade policies such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) have wreaked havoc on the economy of WNC in recent years. I strongly opposed the NAFTA agreement with Mexico and Canada because of my belief that NAFTA would degrade the quality of life which is made possible by our health, safety and environmental laws and would cost thousands of U.S. jobs. Unfortunately, this belief was well-founded: since its passage, NAFTA has devastated numerous industries and regional economies -- such as the textile manufacturing industry in WNC -- by encouraging many companies to move their operations to Mexico, attracted by cheaper labor and less stringent environmental regulations. Western North Carolina has more than shared in this economic loss, as several major employers have closed plants and laid off workers in our area. One of my primary responsibilities as Representative of the Eleventh District is to attract job opportunities to our region; NAFTA has made this goal infinitely more difficult. I am certain that CAFTA will cause similar effects. Please be assured that I will cast my vote in opposition to the Central American Free Trade Agreement.
Again, thank you for contacting me. If I can be of any further assistance regarding this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. Yes well maybe I dont know could be???????????????????????
When your Congressmen act stupid after you tell them to vote no
then they are voting yes.
What a lot of calls and letters can do is make SOME of them think twice.
Some already are bought off and sold being that most politicans are corporate prostitutes anyway....
When they just say ...he supports free trade.....you know he or she will vote yes....
Most DEMS will vote no to please the AFL-CIO who backs the D party and does not like free trade.....true Bush repubs will vote YES but those like Tancredo will say no I believe.....there may be a few on the fence who can be persuaded to vote No!
CAFTA, if passed, will not be the end of the world. So much is already gone to Mexico, China and now India. The biggie is FTAA with the rest of Latin America. As I have said, introduce Argentinian beef and wheat and the American farmer is finished!
BTW Roses from my wife's Colombia were 2 for a $1 at my local UNIONIZED grocery. Your State Department helped the Colombian's get that started on the outskirts of Bogota in the name of stopping drugs production by having alternative crops. A big lie! The drugs are grown hundreds of miles from Bogota. The Andean Pact an extension of the CBI under Reagan PASSED BY CONGRESS got this going! It has destroyed California's and Colorado's rose production!
The politican prostitutes don't care! The businessmen have got them bought off! They kiss yor baby one day and steal it's lolipop the next....
