Homeless Man Found Lying on Sidewalk with Stab Wound in Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, CA (CNS) -- A Mission Viejo resident who claims membership in a Los Angeles gang was behind bars for allegedly stabbing a homeless man outside a bus depot in Laguna Beach.

Roberto Perez Carvajal, 22, was arrested in connection with the stabbing of John Wilson, 47, at the Orange County Transportation Authority bus depot at 375 Broadway about 7 p.m. yesterday, said Laguna Beach police Detective Sgt. Darin Lenyi.

Wilson suffered a single stab wound to the abdomen and was found lying on the sidewalk, Lenyi said. He was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, Lenyi said.

Witnesses provided a description of Carvajal, who was believed to have fled in a bus.

Bus drivers in the area were alerted, and one reported that Carvajal, a self-proclaimed gang member from Los Angeles, was on his bus, Lenyi said.

That bus was stopped on Laguna Canyon Road at Canyon Acres and Carvajal was arrested. He was booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

There was no immediate word on what prompted the attack.
