When Senate boss Harry Reid invoked the so-called “nuclear option” to block Republican filibusters on presidential appointments it was much more than a political maneuver.
It revealed a level of desperation within the Democratic Party hierarchy.
It revealed an understanding that plummeting polls mean time is running out on one-party rule in Washington.
It revealed a willingness by the Democrats, including Barack Obama, to make the most of the time they have left to leave an indelible footprint on American government.
It revealed that Obama and the Democrats have a very bad feeling about the 2014 elections and have decided to they’ve got only one year left to ram their radical agenda through.
What has changed in recent weeks?

  • “If you like your plan, you can keep it,” is now recognized as one of the biggest lies in the history of American politics. It’s right up there with George H.W. Bush’s “Read my lips – no new taxes” and Richard Nixon’s “I’m not a crook.” And that statement by Obama wasn’t said once. It was repeated ad nauseam by Obama, Reid, Nancy Pelosi and every other Democratic leader after polling showed it would be a cynically effective lie to sell Obamacare because “perceptions are more important than facts.”
  • It’s now becoming apparent to even many low-information Democrat voters that Obamacare was never about providing health-care insurance to those unable to afford it. Instead, it was about a raw power grab by government – one that would actually cause millions of Americans to lose their medical insurance, thus precipitating a crisis that could be further exploited with the introduction of 100 percent socialized medicine in America.
  • Pelosi wasn’t being stupid when she said Americans would find out what’s in the bill after it was passed and enacted as law. She was being uncharacteristically transparent. That was always the plan. If they let Americans read the bill before it was voted upon, even many Democrats in the House and Senate would have opposed it – as some are now out of political necessity.
  • Even for those who get to keep their insurance, many will be paying far higher premiums than ever before beginning in 2014 – a mid-term election year.

So the handwriting is on the wall.

Democrats aren’t stupid. They’re corrupt. They’re power-hungry beyond anything most Americans can imagine. They have no respect for the Constitution and America’s unique heritage in liberty, justice and self-government.
They are preparing themselves for a loss of power – some years in the political wilderness. And they are going to make the most of the time they have left – making it as difficult as possible for Republicans to undo the catastrophic damage they have inflicted on this once-great republic.
They realize now they overreached in a way that was not politically expedient.
What do I mean by that?
What if Jimmy Carter hadn’t imploded politically before 1980 and was re-elected that year? His administration would have imploded later – and probably in a bigger way. In 1981 and 1982, Ronald Reagan had his hands full reversing policies that were destroying the economy and American morale. It wasn’t until 1983 that most Americans began to see the effect of the new policies. By 1984 Americans agreed that “Morning in America” had arrived and re-elected him by a landslide.
In 2012, Obama – in many ways the political reincarnation of Jimmy Carter – was re-elected. There was no Ronald Reagan to oppose him. It takes someone to beat even the devil you know. Americans had not yet tasted Obamacare for themselves. They had not yet experienced the full wrath of Obamanomics. Now it’s hitting home. Only the destitute, those hooked on government dependency and the wealthy living in ivory towers can fail to see it.
What’s more, now that Obama’s lies – and there is no way to soft-peddle his child-like willingness to say whatever he needs to say to get his way – are so obvious, he and the Democrats know the jig is up. Most Americans are now going to question everything he says, as they should have all along since 2008.
Democrats fooled the people twice. It won’t be so easy a third time.
That’s the story behind the story of the “nuclear option.”
This isn’t just about some arcane Senate procedure.
This isn’t just about getting some judges approved.
This is a signal that Obama and the Democrats are going to bare their knuckles in ways most of us can’t even imagine for the next year.
